GENIE LIFT PROBLEMS !! BIG EXTENSION BUILD PT 5 WE ARE BACK WITH THE ROBBIES AND A GENIE LIFT TO GET THE BIG STEEL LIFTED INTO PLACE.
WE EVENTUALLY GOT THE STEEL INTO POSITION THEN STARTED THE LIFT BUT IT SOON BECAME APPARENT THE THE GENIE LIFT WAS KNACKERED.
THE ROBS TOOK IT BACK TO SWAP IT AND THE LIFT WENT WITHOUT ANY MORE HITCHES.
IN THE AFTERNOON WE GOT UP ON TH TRESTLES AND BUILT BOTH SKINS OF THE LEFT HAND SIDE PIKE INCLUDING THE INSULATION.
WE WORKED TILL DARK BUT MANAGED TO SALVAGE A BAD DAY AND TURN IT AROUND....ENJOY

Some of the comments on here are crazy. Well worth noting that different councils require different regs guys. Also, it’s common practice for building inspector to visit once steels are in. I think this is a cracking job guys! We have to improvise every now and then. Keep up the fantastic work and keep on sponging that knowledge off of your dad, Alex. Have a great weekend everyone.

And the negativity about Alex, let me say this, when I was on the tools I would've loved to have had someone like him with me, he can get on with it without having to be watched all the time & he knows what he's doing, he's coming along nicely & improving all the time.. Haha when the genie fell out when you was moving it. First time I used one and returned it to hire shop I forgot to put the transit clamps on. When I reversed into yard with doors open the whole thing slid out there was gears rollers springs everywhere. Cost me £500 to get it rebuilt. Never done it again though.🤣🥲

Hi Steve&Alex. Shame you lost time cause genie lift but these things happen. With new one you all made it easy. The pike went up quick too. I have watch all your videos I know Alex works hard getting things ready and that. If he wasn’t its not up to me or anyone else to say. I am sure you would would quiet work. Holy Moly that Genie lift looked dogdy as hell. The cradle only had a box weld at the end with no arm supports. Glad nothing happened. Stay safe!

Wow, that Genie lift sounded like it was about to snap and let go at any second! I know they have step-locks to prevent a freefall, but even so it sounded and looked dodgy as hell. I was worried for you all, glad it ended well though. Nice job. Love this channel, reminds of the days my son and I worked construction together as carpenters, I still do, but sonny moved on to better things. still miss his daily company though. Well done Steve for defending your son from the trolls, they are just dicks.

I'll give you a genie tip. If you want to edge the steel to even up the bearings, knock on the side of the forks with a block of wood and a lumpy. It'll skid the steel 5mm at a time. Don't tell the hire shop though 😆

Alex, the bucket - Steve was ensuring the concrete slab didn't dry out too fast and suffer internal stress cracks. That's what he told me to say. Lol!

Crappy start with the faulty lift but recovered well afterwards. 👍👍 After the opposite pikes is that you done on that job.🤔

Shocking on the plant supplier. Does annoy me as most them fail check them when they come back into the shop. If had the extended arms for the genie would hit full trolley sitting on the slab. Can be stressfully seek putting these in lol.

Hi lads, a few vids ago steve said that you can no longer use jablite in the floor make up, it now has to be celotex ridgid insulation, is this part of the new regs as i pointed it out to a building inspector yesterday and he disagreed, wonder if you could clarify this for me. cheers lads.

Different authorities have different rules . We were told if we used it it would have to be minimum 160 mm and they don’t make it in that size . It actually works out only slightly dearer to use the 100 mm celotex now 🙄🧱👍🏽

Your going to have to redo the cuts on the gable again I think you haven't allowed for the height of the wallplate and the rafters on the front of the extension, might be the right height under the bedroom window but you haven't allowed any room for the timbers at the gutter level, hope you haven't finished the other side before it's too late

Maybe they ran a facia all the way around and up the verges Liam....? Only way I can see of covering the rafters as you've pointed out without building up further

@@chriscollins1704 . Definitely the extra insulation costs a fortune . The fibreglass we used was .37 so we have to use the .32 now . Not much more expensive per pack but half as many batts in a friggin pack ! Which means twice as expensive. The insulation companies are doing ok 😒🧱👍🏽

blows me away that with 4 seemingly able guys on hand you wouldn't just lift one end at a time up in place as we do here with 3 without wasting money on a lift rental and A LOT of time.😳 Even your little guy picks up an end to put onto the block pretty easy in your video. just sayin'

Don't get me wrong- i like to work smart not hard whenever i can- especially now at 70 years old!! If there was one on site already- it would be foolish not to take advantage of it,- but man- that beam could have been in place by hand in the time it took to load the genie back into the truck to return to the 'hire store' as u guys seem to call it 🤠@@SteveAndAlexBuild

Hate it when hire equipment turns up and its not fit for use its lazy on the hire company. It then cost us money you'll never get back 2hrs down time and travel costs is actually a lot of money and they dont care which is always so annoying. You came through it and got stuff done just have to keep going .Big old beam that was lads 👍🧱👏
