Bertrand Russell went so far as to affirm that "Hitler was the result of Rousseau". But not only was Hitler an ill-fated epigone of Rousseau: all those who led their resentment through ideologies that promised them to achieve through revolution what they would never achieve on their own merits found justification in the ideas of Jean-Jacobo Rousseau .
