If you tap the gasket paper with a small ball pean hammer while in contact with the metal surface , it will practically cut itself out for you. No more tedious cutting necessary🙂

Try making a simple ring compressor with a tin can , or sheet of thin steel, to wrap around the piston, and with flaps bent at right angles to allow you to squeeze closed with pliers or similar, ( vice grips?). as for valve springs, simple compressor metal flat, with a y-end to go under a nut on the stud between the valves, and an open tube.. cutaway on one or both sidesmuch easier than struggling with pushing pliers down on the top and less likely to hurt yourself.

That engine when I saw it uncrated, I thought, "this is a POS". Sorry, no polite term for that. Then the engine oil with the consistency and color of undercooked flan... I felt every frustration you had with this POS, but like always, you fixed it and got if running!
