There is no reason why you can't do that. The only difference between the inventors in this documentary and an ordinary person is the choices they make, and the energy they're willing to put into making their dreams a reality. At 58 years old, I can now see that I made some good choices, but I also missed some key moments in my life that would have expanded my future exponentially. Don't get me wrong; I live a very comfortable lifestyle. But when I see these inventors at work, I can see how I could have been one of them had I focused on the right opportunities in my life. Of course, life is never over until it's over. I could always change it if I found the inspiration to do so.

Tangential comment: Nature created the coca leaf. People used it for a couple thousand years. Western science turned it into the scourge of cocain. Same with regards to the poppy being turned into heroine. Pharmacology looking to invent drugs they can patent and sell even though nature provides miraculous molecules already proven. I believe we need to take another look at coca leaf to help cure the pandemic of metabolic syndrome in our world.

Bumps on a whale fin. Geez, these guys are ignorant. We have been doing this in aviation for 70 or more years. Look at the teeth on the top of a 737 Classic wing. Better still, look at the shark’s teeth on the leading edge of the old Embraer 125. It is exactly the same as the whale fin. So here are a bunch of so-called ‘scientists’ trying to re-invent the wheel. Ralph

I have an idea for wing design mimicking an Owl's stealthy flight characteristics. Leading edge serrations in the wing structure act like tiny vortex generators, very similar to this concept.

Covering the wing structure and using an airfoil designed pre WW2 will have a similar effect. Laminar flow is great, but not for all applications. for most low Reynolds numbers uses, a slightly rough surface for the 70-80% of the wing behind the leading edge is actually better. and if that transition can be made abruptly, even better, with a device such as you mention. There probably is a better way to do it than VG's. they seem very crude, and could likely be improved upon.

I was amazed by this video on how to save water by using a closed loop shower system. It's such a brilliant idea that I'm thinking we need this in my home. You see, my family has been very conscious about our water consumption and we have some rules to follow. For example, we have the three pile rule for the toilet. That means we can only flush after three people have used it. We also reuse our toilet paper by washing it and drying it. This is possible because we eat a Earth-friendly fiber-rich foods that make our bowel movements very easy to wash clean. We hardly need any water to rinse the toilet paper and we can use it again and again. But now I realize that there is a better way to save water and be environmentally friendly. This shower system is the perfect solution for us. We can shower as long as we want without wasting any water. We can also use the same water for other purposes, like washing the toilet paper. It's genius! Of course, I'm just joking. I don't really do any of those things. I just wanted to make you laugh. This is a great video and I think we should all be more aware of how much water we use and how we can conserve it. I actually had a similar idea a long time ago, but I never did anything with it. Maybe I should have.

The shower makes perfect sense to me and does not seem in any way unhygienic. By making fun of it you are just delegitimizing the entire idea. I have a hot tub that relies on physical filtration and chemical sanitation to keep the water clean for many months at a time. I don't see how this is any different. If anything I think they should add a reservoir with a bromine or salt based sanitation system, though that would increase the maintenance requirements and the heating energy requirement.

In taking a shower, you only need it on for a few moments so that you can lather up, and for a few moments when you need to rinse the soap and dirt off. I turn the water on, lather up, wash with a sponge, and then turn the water back on to rinse off.

While I found the technology innovative with an excellent future, what intrigued me is of the probably hundreds of people who walked through that store, one man stood at a small model of the whale and wondered why the front of the fins were shaped like there were and what were the benefits. It seems the answer for many discoveries are around us---we just need to stop and notice the details in nature and ask why did nature design it like that and how could it be used to help us.

I thought the same at first, but tubercles may actually be natural selection. Skin is able to grow bumps even when undesirable, so growing them in particular places doesn't necessarily need new genetic information. The lack of them on other animals also indicates development by random chance.

I am really impressed with the ammonia blocks to combat combustion engine pollution, much better than waiting (forever) for electric vehicles to catch on. Better to have a solution we can use now. It literally converts green house gas emissions in to water and nitrogen.

Many places in the western world are mandated to use Adblue which is enforced by law in europe for new commercial vehicles since 2016, which does the same thing as these ammonia blocks, the Adblue is in liquid form which can be refilled by the end user thus not requiring a technician to provide maintenance.

Electric cars will take over much faster than people anticipate. Every year battery prices keep going down which if continued at the current pace will make electric cars cheaper than ICE cars to buy in 5 years. For cars that are used to drive long distances for e,g car rentals like hertz, it is already cheaper to own an electric car and the shift has already started

@@newolde1 the amount of increased energy that will need to be put in the grid if we move to EVs is not equal to the amount of energy that is contained in gasoline fuel for cars. Gasoline engines are only 30-35% efficient while electric motors are 98% efficient. So the grids will only need to accommodate about 35% of the energy of gasoline used for cars for increased load if we fully move to EVs. It is inherently a better technology. Solar photovoltaic installations have been increasing at an exponential rate since the technology is also getting cheaper every year. Perovskite installed on top of existing installed solar pv is also another game changing technology that is coming over the next few years that will drastically increase the mix of grid energy derived from clean sources

I may have some more questions after I finish watching this video yet I can't help but to ask the question about the semiconductor laser lenses. Could this technology be used outside just lasers and also be incorporated for better efficiency to solar cell technology? A lot of the light that hits a solar cell is waisted because it cannot all be absorbed and turned to heat perhaps this technology can hold the excess light and give the cells time to absorbe it at the correct spectral frequencies of the cells... I had to ask this question and I can't work on myself yet maybe this brilliant lady could look into it.

I work at a plant where they make the fiber glass for the wind mills from raw materials. They used to have a Swedish equipment line that weaved the glass into a mat. When they stopped the green tax incentive, they took the line out. Now, the Japanese own the plant as Nippon Electric Glass.

13:30 Much of the radiation shielding of any space ship taking people to Mars will consist of water. Water will also be essential for any mars base for food crops, oxygen recycling as well as drinking and cleaning water, so it will be needed any way. Not that this system wouldn't be useful, but any water used in a shower will be used to irrigate crops. The respiration of those crops will be collected and condensed and will be, effectively distilled water. That water will be used to make, oxygen, not by electrolysis, but by using it as a growth medium for algae under lights to convert CO2 from the air, and even the Martian atmosphere, into O2 and more Algae. The Algae can be used as food as well as construction medium for more levels of the base, built deeper under the surface of Mars.

Stronger, stiffer, longer, better, easier to recycle at the end of their lifespan: chop them up and burn the chips without residues, or landfills! Maybe the reduced recycling cost in the end could compensate the higher price at the beginning? And within a large windpark, the turbines should be optimized for a span of different wind conditions; not all turbines shut off at the same max. storm_speed! But there are limits, side_effects and risks in further expanding wind_energy_extraction: the atmospheric circulation will be altered ( reduced Coriolis effect, stabilizing the Northern Jet-Stream in a symetric~wavy form with big troughs and crests); reducing the amount of humidity_transport and rainfall in the summers from the (warmer) oceans to the interior of Eurasian- and/or American- Continents.

I saw something interesting a while ago looking through a digital microscope. I saw leading edge teeth or hooks on a housefly. I immediately had the idea that this would disrupt airflow over the wings in exactly the same way as the whale flippers.

My idea is similar to alotropic tourmaline it collects light all around the cylinder and focuses it in a C axis alignment. Florolithiumaluminasilicate and iridium modeling and this is a piezo electric crystal that can vary its charge with pressure Communications , holographic images, tracking systems, weapons of frequencies.

There seems to be a lot missing in the description of SBR by Lars Liljeryd. I can understand the concept of sending only a base or fundamental tone as a starting point for reconstructing the subtones, but it seems to me the reconstruction of the subtones is dependent on sending information about those missing tones... ie at least the frequencies but also likely the waveform of those tones and unless there is a mathematical formula that describes those tones, might have to be stored in a library on the receiving end. Doing a Google search for alternative explanations and descriptions of SBR, keywords like "overtones" apparently aren't being used by anyone lese. Too bad. Maybe the only way to get a more full description of the invention is to read the patent application.

When they hunt a big squid, down there, they locate it by sonar, dash at it and in the last moment, when the squid bolts sideways, they have to do a vigorous turn to get the pray, ultimately! if the flippers stall at that moment, she has lost!

amazing work. congrats. These observed physical features of these whales illustrate the Darwinian evolution process very well. whereas some sources will tend to say 'the whales evolved these features', the fact is they would have originally been simply nothing more than another genetic variation, present in a subset of an ancient whale population. That this mutation improved the whales performance, meant they were more likely to survive and reproduce, and therefore now all of that species' population carries that genetic feature.

I already have a recycled water system. My water goes back in to the ground with a simple septic field, is filtered by a huge no maintenance ground filter, then is pumped back into the house for reuse years later. Simple, reliable, inexpensive.

In this they talk about how "in the future, 256gb will fit on a chip the size of a fingernail. We already have microSD cards that are 1tb. I guess this is dated?..

Nature gets the credit. Others had demonstrated the value of bumps on edges of wings/fins. These guys just legally claimed it. That's BS.

I assume such biological design was evolved to break up the water surface tension. -You can also improve the strength of the blade using such design notions too.

1:25:30 "thirty percent more [of the 1%] " ... does he mean "thirty times more" which would be 30% [of the sugar], or is it as said 30% MORE of the original 1% (0.3%) which would be 1.3% of the sugar? I will go with the former, and say there was something lost in the translation. ;-)

Do we know that it has not ? Perhaps there is not that much benefit under normal circumstances and straight edges will do sufficiently only the humpback whale dives to depths where the improved performance gives the evolutionary benefit.🤔

the smartglasses are amazing. i can imagine being able to something one has never seen before and never done. just don these glasses and a virtual representation beside your real work, taking apart pumps, fixing circuit boards, even preforming operations on a human in distress in the middle of nowhere, build a bomb from scratch with what you have in your kitchen. thats matrix level stuff. of course you could learn the basics of say kung fu but things like that you would have to master physically but this would provide great tutorials. i love this era of technological progression but believe our sense of entitlement and overconsumption that goes with it will be our doom.
