'Genius of Israel' Offers Hope in Midst of War

The nation of Israel has endured ongoing trauma since its founding in 1948 and has also shown remarkable strength.
In The Genius of Israel: The Surprising Resilience of a Divided Nation in a Turbulent World, authors Dan Senor and Saul Singer look at some of the country's unsung strengths including creativity in business, fertility rates that are nearly double that of those in the US and Europe and higher life expectancy.
Senor, a former US presidential campaign advisor and Pentagon spokesman, and Singer, a former editor, and columnist at The Jerusalem Post, of course, had no way of knowing that their book would be published one month after the Oct. 7 Hamas terror attacks. But the timing may be inadvertently on point, as the book offers hope for a country now in the midst of defending its sovereignty in a moment no one could have imagined.

Israeli American here. There’s nowhere else on this planet I would rather raise my children. my family immigrated to the US in 1906 after being persecuted for being Jewish in Belarus, there was no Israel and it only took a generation of living in America to lose our values and sense of community. There was no Friday dinner. My family was broken, divorced far apart from each other when I met my Israeli husband and sat at the Shabbat dinner table it was so clear to me what we lost by not having these traditions and ceremonies. I’m not religious, but I am a very proud jew This is my tribe we have strong values of love and respect and will defend this little sliver of earth and our people with all of our hearts.

Interesting. I was here with a group of volunteers in 1983. At some point there was a flare up on the Syrian border and the volunteer leader started making arrangements to get the volunteers home (we were all from the UK). Two of us said we'd rather stay and fight if necessary. We're both still here.

I felt that same sense of safety and belonging when I was there too. I dropped my passport at a park. Someone turned it into the police, the police dropped it off where I was volunteering. I was so thankful I invited them in for some coffe. They came in for 10 minutes. It was awesome. That's just one account. I have many more stories of wonderful experience of the nice people there.

We did have that in the US right up to the mid-'60"s. About two decades after WWII it started slipping away: McCarthy exposed the political infiltration (congress reshuffled the deck and sealed the files for 50 years; so, no one could discern the truth), the assassination of Pres. Kennedy ensued in the early '60's, shortly followed by the assassination of his brother, 'the powers that be' voted praying OUT of the schools in this country; then, Vietnam ended in a smear (but not before the "Fat Cats' made a killing on aluminum & heroin). People still haven't recovered, because most of this manipulative BAU is still happening. This is how America got demoralized!

I never felt at home anywhere like I did in Israel. If I wasn’t so old I’d join the IDF. But as a doctor I can still work and contribute as a doctor and yes I’m prepping to make Aliyah because it’s where I belong. I love Israel with all my heart and starting to improve my Hebrew. I want to be fully fluent. I want to serve, but I’m in my sixties but in good shape and willing to give my life for Israel.

I grew up Sabbath Observant. It was not easy all of the time, but I can tell you, Sabbath is the greatest institution on Earth. To observe it according to Jewish law is quite demanding but the peace, relaxation and togetherness one experiences is beyond description. It has taken me decades to grow into it, but, the gift of Shabbat is beyond measure. There are always temptations and reasons to break it- but therein is the challenge and satisfaction of observance. What you put in to it is what you receive from it.

I’m Israeli born to Jewish parents. I am a believer of the gospel and Jesus is messiah! I am more sure that Jesus and the NT is true I’m not more sure or anything else in my life. And I still observe sabbath. It’s nice to take a day to observe and preserve - observe the reasons for Shabbat and preserve the faith within that even when crucified as a Jew , Jesus said “father forgive them they know not what the do. “ Shabbat is and to recall the exodus and the promise God made to deliverance of Jesus and salvation for all who choose. And I take a nap usually too. 😊

@@israelizzyyarrashamiaak766 Friend, from my understanding Hinduism, Islam, Christianity and Judaism are all levels ..like floors in a building. Whichever your choose upon, is the spiritual level you can achieve. As Jews we singularly worship God alone! Top floor, penthouse! We go through no middleman and we do not separate powers. It is absolute and pure worship. If you choose to dilute your worship going through another man, that is your choice to be at a lower level. But as a Jew you are wasting the connection your soul's ability has to connect with pure Source.

I notice America and the UK have this horrible intergenerational hatred. Gen X, Gen Z, Millenials, Boomers, they each use these lables to insult eachother and there's no respect. In Israel our youngsters respect and love the older generation, after all, the older generations fought the wars that kept this country alive. Our old people respect our youngsters because they're our heroes, today's generation of soldiers are all that stands between us and our enemies. There's so much intergenerational respect here that you don't see elsewhere.

Sad that such a book as "The Genius of Israel" cannot be written about any of Israel's neighbors, except for perhaps Egypt. If Israel had more such neighbors, even though they be very different, there would be more peace. Instead, Israel's most of Israel's neighbors waste all their energy on how they might destroy Israel, one of the only prosperous nations in the region.

Read the whole Bible and you'll see Jesus is coming back with a sword not peace. Jews aren't special unless they accept Christ which they haven't and most reject Christ and will continue to reject Him right to the end. Most are not saved. Only true believers and followers of Christ are and will be saved

I have watched 3 interviews with Dan Senor because I am writing a review of this new book--the other two interviews were with CBS and Bloomberg. This interview was so far superior, with actual knowledge about Israel's true condition vis-a-vis it's "neighbors" and an understanding of the spiritual underpinnings of the nation and the people. Bloomberg and CBS--not surprisingly--conducted interviews that put Senor (and Israel) on the defensive, just like the other lemmings in the mainstream media.

Seems like the premise that the Ezekiel 38 war precedes the ‘great trib so much that the 7 year smouldering weapons extends into great trib itself is a bit of a quantum leap Rather the Ezekiel war is the victory war at the end of the great trib and the 7 year weapon smoulder simply extends beyond The first was is a defeat at early onset of the trib THEN followed by the victory war

America's problem is that WE HAVE EVICTED GOD, AND GODLINESS, FROM OUR REPUBLIC. By doing so, wickedness is growing. If there was true revival here, if America would REPENT, and CALL OUT TO GOD THRU HIS SON, JESUS YESHUA THE CHRIST, God would heal our land, as He promised. 2 Chronicles 7:14 "If my people, which are called by my name, shall humble themselves, and pray, and seek my face, and turn from their wicked ways; then will I hear from heaven, and will forgive their sin, and will heal their land."

Hamas, to my great regret, is Israel’s creation,” Avner Cohen, a former Israeli religious affairs official who worked in Gaza for more than two decades, told the Wall Street Journal in 2009. Back in the mid-1980s, Cohen even wrote an official report to his superiors warning them not to play divide-and-rule in the Occupied Territories, by backing Palestinian Islamists against Palestinian secularists. “I … suggest focusing our efforts on finding ways to break up this monster before this reality jumps in our face,” he wrote.
