30 knots! Hahaha. I was on the USS Ranger, "hotel 61",(a very old, oil-fired carrier), in the early 90s, just before it was decommissioned. On the Ranger's last cruise, to the gulf,(west-pac), the skipper decided to stretch it out as fast as it would go. On the tv in my shop, I watched the speed build up to 51 knots. That's well over 60 mph. This was accomplished with the port, outboard prop having a bent blade. It made the entire ship vibrate...a lot! We were on our way from san dog to the gulf steaming west across the pacific. Nearing asia, the skipper decided, since it was the last cruise, to go right through the middle of a typhoon,(hurricane). In the 72 man birthing the ship was rising and falling with the giant waves so much that we didn't even try to sleep there. We had to hotrack with another birthing aft. Even then it was nearly impossible to get any rest. The forward ship's store was flooded, due to a sponson on that side,(port), being mangled and nearly lost. My point, after all of this rambling, is that military weapons systems, in reality, go significantly faster than advertised 😉 -weezi-💖🙏💜🙏🫂 PS: and, yes, my crusty black-shoe comrades, I was an "Airedale". Thanks for the lift!😁

Did a lot of plane guard for CVA 61. Got launched off the Ranger in a COD. I actually do believe it's launch and recovery speed was limited by the plane guard. Bull, unless the 100,000 ton carrier was up on plane (an impossibility) it is limited to hull speed.. 1.34 x the square root of the water line length. That's 44 knots for a Nimitz class carrier with a clean bottom and sea water cold enough to maintain condenser vacuum, less for the smaller and worn out Ranger. In reality Nimitz's top speed was about about 33 knots. How do I know? Because I was Nuke Machinist Mate. I ran the engine room...

At the 3:00 mark, imagine doing that with an airwing strapped down topside. Any plane not tied down to the deck will be sliding somewhere on the deck, either into another plane or over the side. Whenever I talk to someone about getting attacked, they point out how closely the ships are together, making it easy to take them out with one shot. They never realize those are PR shots and they only get that close together for the PR shot. It is easy to forget technology changes and the Navy must adapt as well. Unmanned Aerial Vehicles (UAVs) are a new challenge that must be met.

The Torpedos are no Problem. You could have 4 small Vessels, draging a Metal "Fischung" Net on the Sides of the Ship. Like 2- 50m deep and 100m away. To Catch them. The Hypersonics tho. RIP Even Lasers can´t do shit since they create a Plasma cloud in the front of the Missile. You can beat them even without this higtech stuff. Drop something from right above, from a Satalite. it will not even show up on the Radar, if right over the ship.

Hypersonic missiles are still not consistent or reliable enough in such long ranges. They also travel along a very predictable flight path, and the navy is coming up with multiple ways to track them. Not to mention in 2025 we’ll have a “space sensor” which is created to track them.

"Attacking a strike group would be an extremely dangerous move for even the most well equipped foe." During wargames in 2005 a Swedish diesel submarine, HSMS Gotland managed to sneak past an entire strike group's anti-submarine defences and score several simulated torpedo strikes against the USS Ronald Reagan. Sure well first off it can probably do about 35 knots but that’s classified … keep in mind that it can travel not just 40 miles in one dimension but in two dimensions if you think of the ocean as a 2d space…. 30*30 is a 900mile box or grid of potential places a carrier could be ….700mi is in actually a understatement of the area a carrier could cover in an hour but it might be limited by the top speed of another ship in its carrier group and it wouldn’t normally abandon one of the ships because they all have a specialized role in its defense… for instance if it outran one of its agis equipped cruisers than it could only defend itself from missiles at uncomfortably close ranges. If it didn’t stay in range of its submarine(s) then it would be venerable to torpedo attack… 700 miles is likely the operational range of the entire carrier group after an hour in motion.

@@jessiesoto4535 nimitz are less than 30 years old but are modernized and maintained every five years with top of the line. But, stay delusional and think you can attack. This is the highest technical Navy in the world, not your peasant Russian Navy that has their flagship sunk easily with 40 year old missiles.👍👍👍😁😁😁

Thats right ... it should keep practicing from enemy attack, but here's my question? When it does get hit, and w/the enemies' weaponry of today can it survive. And if so, how can the deck be repaired in time for the next landing craft? Are there practices for that? And how are they conducted? Show us, how are men and women work together to get that pilot back on the flight deck, ASAP! And protect our ships and aircraft? And just so you know, this question is from one who served and was in the air wing. I truly care about our today's military personnel. I am old school update me.
