Genshin Impact is a massively popular free to play open world anime gatcha RPG that initially released back in 2020, I played the game for a bit back at launch but I had no idea how popular this game would go on to be and as of October 2023 the game has over 64 million players logging in to play every month which is 4 times the amount it had back at launch.
In 2023 Genshin is available to play on multiple platforms including PC PS4 & 5, Andriod and iOS and over the years has had numerous updates that both expand the roster of collectable characters and the size of the world.
So why do people play Genshin?
Well I think there’s a few reasons but the main ones being collecting waifus, enjoying the games unique elemental reaction based action combat system, the fact that Genshin has the largest open world out of any anime game in existence and it’s also heavily story driven so you’re basically playing an anime and with every update the community is basically experiencing a new episode of that anime together.
In this video I’ll revisit Genshin Impact in 2023 to see if the game can hook me in more this time compared to back at launch.
What do think about Genshin Impact 4.2 in 2023? Is Genshin still the king of anime gatcha RPGs? let me know in the comments below!

there actually are in game ways to see what you need to be completed (treasure compass, oculus resonance stone, etc.) also you should use charge attacks more often since some characters like wriothesley and furina have special characteristics to their charged attacks (though most players tend to not use furina's CA anyway) that white haired guy you tried that makes blue balls on the ground will fire a Kamehameha when you charge attack and it actually consumes no stamina also you can use furina to walk on water infinitely in any region so pretty good early game pull

I thought I wouldn't enjoy this video, because the Genshin Impact starter experience is basically the same for almost everyone, but Peon went ahead and reached the point where everyone starts loving this game. Edit: Holy shit, he didn't use Neuvillette's charged attack a single time.

Tip for those who want to play in borderless windowed mode, add a shortcut for the game (not the launcher) to your desktop, open the Properties on it and add " -screen-fullscreen 0 -popupwindow" at the end of the Target textbox (without the quotes). Then play the game using that desktop shortcut. If there are updates, you'll just have to start the launcher as you do now, update it, and then you can keep using this shortcut again. My issues with the game is the grind to catch other players up, it will be 100s of hours to do, and im not going to play a game that dont make it interesting, by reducing that curve for new players. I tried the game a year ago, and i will probably never play it again. Happy you all enjoy it, but the level/fun curve is to treacherous for me. @@GhostEmblem Eating those stamina regen dishes can also be an option if you somehow still run out of stamina. However, I agree with TLP: The way stamina is managed in Elden Ring would make this game so much good, that is, the fact stamina is only really consumed when you enter combat leaving you free to run forever with no stamina limit as long as you avoid enemies. I understand the stamina limitation on swimming, climbing and gliding, but running at the very least should be mitigated in this way.

Another tip! If you want to replay dialogue that you have missed, go to the archives, (edit: this is in the paimon menu, the book looking icon) and all of the lines will be there if you missed anything in the story! it will also include voice lines that you would otherwise not hear if you choose another dialogue option. also if you look at the archives, there are tons of lore for you to read about literally everything you encountered and or collected

Great Video! A little about the things to improve: The borderless windowed situation is even more frustrating because it actually is proper borderless windowed, the game just actively minimises itself when it notices that it's been unfocused. I also wish that this could be a separate setting "minimise when losing focus" for the user to decide. The sprinting i personally wouldn't want to be changed, i do understand tho that the lack of full 240 stamina in early game can feel too restrictive, so that's maybe something to address instead. I am very contend with sprint tapping on tall females with adding small breaks between each sprint tap for good efficiency, so that works for me. I do really wish that it would at least be possible to sync the actual exploration progress onto the interactive map like once per patch for example. Currently i stop spending sigils once the respective trees are level50 to be able to keep track how many sigils there are to get in total versus how many i have. The interactive map had a few wipes for me so i can't be 100% certain for some areas.

It´s complicated with Genshin. On one side we can talk about the monetization, insane amounts of money people put to this game, the big part of community that is beyond unhinged.. But we also can talk about how much of this game you can play literally for free, how high the production quality is, how good the story telling got and more. Complicated game. But I love to get back to it every couple of months.

big part of the community? I think you are underestimating how big the community really is. The people that r34 their fav character is not the norm. The majority of players no matter which game never comment or anything, they just play the game and that's it.
@Scarecr0wn
@Scarecr0wn 6 ай бұрын
@@sonnyankau9239 Well, following your logic, we are just getting into semantics. What is free? Because technically every f2p game is like that. Wanna be good in POE? Gotta have that grind mindset. Apex Legends? Gonna have some long and bad times before getting wins. Warframe? LoL, Runescape.. I can go on. That´s how these game are built and if you don´t like it, I understand. But that just means you probably prefer more streamlined, linear game. Or standard game that you pay for and play and then stop. Live, ongoing game does not work like that, none of them.
@sonnyankau9239
@sonnyankau9239 6 ай бұрын
@@Scarecr0wn it's not semantics. free to you is without paying, free to me is without mandatory activities. a game is not free if it requires you to spend your time to do specific things instead of letting you do whatever you want. Genshin literally forces you to do artifact grinding + use stamina daily otherwise you won't be able to play the game no matter how many characters you get "for free." the difference between genshin & most of the other games you listed is those games don't have mandatory activities that you're absolutely required to do. genshin gets to call itself free because it baits you into investing a ton of your time only for you to realize it's not worth it and then you're left with two options 1) quit playing or 2) spend money. there is no absolutely free to play players in genshin who don't have ulterior motives. there's a reason for that.

The graphics look really good, but the characters look too cute! Also the elemental interactions are really well done, but combat doesn t really feel that impactful! Worth trying PGR again on the next patch when the fire god Lee arrives! for me, PGR combat and the Gatcha system is kind of ideal case scenario. Also, play the character tutorial stage, because the last time you were not really focusing on the damage system! Every character has it's own burst mode that you have to activate in a way or another! Also, you can pull for Bianca Stigmata too! She is really fun to play! P.S: PGR has an official PC client now

Great points and well-edited video! If you're interested enough to keep playing with the game, I recommend checking out the character demo/teaser trailers. Lots of people in Genshin's community enjoy watching that kind of react content in case that's something you'd like to do. Even if you don't post your react, they still give you a quick look into each characters' kit and stories, and helps a lot with choosing which characters you'd aim to pull for. They've also just got banger themes and are fun outside content to watch. Hope you enjoy your journey! The first time discovering everything, listening to the magical music, and optimizing your favorite teams are the best thing Genshin offers. If you keep at it, I would definitely watch a video in the future of your thoughts further into the game.

You can actually go back and re-read/listen to quest dialogue in the archive section of the main menu. Not exactly what you mentioned but it serves the same purpose more or less. While it might be tricky to implement and I doubt it'll happen after three years but making sprinting stamina consumption dynamically switch on when only in combat and otherwise not cost stamina would be a welcome change. That said, every year they seem to release at least a couple new characters with useful movement abilities that are nice for exploration (Kazuha, Wanderer, Yelan, Sayu, Lynette and Venti all speed up exploration). Actually Furina also adds to exploration since she can walk on water with 100% uptime.

As a daily Genshin player since launch, I think this overview is solid. There is only one thing that I think is important to add. Genshin's story isn't just quests and cut scenes. The lore behind the story continues the story so far beyond just what we watch on screen. I've been an enjoyer of TES games for decades, and Genshin gives TES a run for its money on the sure amount and quality of game lore. There is probably as many, if not more, content creators covering lore and lore theory as there are covering character builds and combat. I started playing for the exploration and combat system, but I stay for the story! I will commiserate with you on one topic. Other Hoyo games can run in no windowed borderless mode. It is truly a shame that Genshin has not had this feature added.

Very glad to hear that you enjoyed the game. I've been playing Genshin everyday since the start and my love for it only grows stronger with time. Just today i explained to a friend why i love this game so much. (oh good the music... holy) You made really good points here but i also like to highlight that exploring the world of Genshin and doing the puzzles is sooo satisfying. And you don't grow sick of it. The last few days i wanted to something in Genshin and got lost for two hours further exploring fontaine. It is really a lot of fun. The one part you cannot be aware of with your limited time of play time was, that the story gets better with every new zone. My favourite Zone is still Mondstadt followed by Sumer but the Stories get so much better the further you advance. And the great thing is, this is also true for the Event Stories which go on for some weeks. More then once did i had a tear in the eye while playing Genshin. The game looks all happy and sunshine but the truth is there is a ever present feeling of sadness and loss in the world. Which makes it so much deeper and you bond with the characters, their story and their past. The last thing i'd like to add is that you didn't even discovered the special areas yet which hold lots of content as well. I promise this will be a lot of fun in the future.

Glad you gave it another go, Peon. 🙂 Personally, I play it since day one. Haven't stopped it since. Sure it could get tedious at times but each update 'refreshes' that first-time feeling and fills me with the energy to jump back in. The world, the music (best ingame music ever), the characters, the story it's amazing! Not many games in the last 5 years have captured me like that. Except "Elden ring" and "Cyberpunk 2077". I have no complaints regarding this game. It's a blast to play and level up and make your characters stronger but I have one downside to this is that the combat gets way too easy when you are maxed out. I really want them to increase the difficulty of the endgame content. It's annoying that the game is catered for the 'Casuals' but not to the 'Elite players' - the Gigachads who want to sweat. It annoys me to be too strong. Such a dumb complaint, I know. Also, a very good note Peon you made in the cons is _'The Game is beatable even as an F2P'._ Not many content creators mention this because there are still misconceptions in the community. The first thing when they hear the word "Gacha", they think: _"GG. P2W game. Dogshit. Cringe. No money = no W."_ Which is absolutely false. Everything is clearable even as a F2P only it will be slightly difficult and might take a bit more time but not too much time. Huge respect for pointing that out. I think one of the first non-main Genshin creators who has mentioned it. Thank you! 🙏 P.S. Excellent that you got Furina! She's mega cracked when you build her right 😀

@@barelyabear7956 id say the lore are better ( altho the storytelling is getting better too). They hinted so much in the first year and everything is tricklling down, make your effort of trying to understand it worthwide

nice video - some tips below for exploring faster. a combination of the three made a huge difference for me 1 - slot 2 anemo characters in party for the anemo resonance buff - increases movement speed and decreases stamina consumption 2 - use characters with passives that decrease stamina consumption (Kaeya for sprinting, Venti for gliding, etc.). 3** - use food buffs that decrease stamina consumption for a duration - Sticky Honey Roast recipe can be obtained from Jean's story quest, and Omelette Rice recipe can be bought at Shimura's shop in Inazuma. The first one is already available for you to get since it's in Monstadt, and ingredients for it are pretty easy to get. sweet flower, carrot, and boar farming :P

Starting with Venti is the best thing ever, i say that by experience 👍 (Venti "main" since day 1 of 1.0) And yeah, Genshin' combat is the only thing that makes me want to play it... It is the best one out there, imo... I wish more games used this type of elemental interactions...

This perfectly describes the honey moon phase of players very spot on. I am interested to see if his review would shift at all after a year of playing this.

If the honey phase is a year long it's the best honey moon ever.

Depends on how long/much you play, also if you have been indoctrinated into the MHY cult. If you see their formula and how they basically stick to it then that is the dividing line for most imo.@@CubaSmileSauce

The vast majority of people fear gacha games terribly, but I really love this game. I've never played anything for as long as Genshin ❤️

There is, actually, a way to review quest dialogue, with audio! The game has an archive with all the main quests' voiced dialogue. Although I completely agree you should be able to replay (maybe a "go back button") a bit of it if you missed something. That said, it's a sponsored video so I'm sure it has both its askings from Hoyoverse as well as your takes, which are very true to the game, in my opinion, considering the balance between what the game really is (not friendly to f2p) versus what you're asked to review (and one would assume you would avoid taking some big shots here, so safe is the word amirite). But overall, I think Hoyoverse did a poor job in guiding the review. I mean, you covered many of the game's features, but I think it lacked in some directions. For example, they could've given you a temp account with the latest waifus and some premade teams, some direction on where the hype is right now, some tips on where it's better to go in depth versus where to leave it shallow. Examples in both categories: shallow on world exploration, because you captured it very well very quickly ("there's always 'look at that in the distance'", travel, scenery, ambience, etc), but depth on high end combat and well build teams (everyone likes the big numbers and shiny waifus/husbandos), and of course what I missed the most, the weekly bosses, which are the most insanely-looking surprises you have in the game, IMO. That said, I wish exploring would spend no stamina or spend way, way less than normal, but combat needs it as a mechanic, and quest dialogue, mainly the side quests, are terribly awful. It's full of useless filler text and characters constantly patting themselves on each others' back, there should certainly be a faster way to skip and/or they should just get rid of the bulk of it. The content is fine, it's the amount of it that is terrible.

Having a decked out account would just not be an authentic experience. That's an advertisement, not a review. Have you heard of Raid: Shadow Legends?

@@cottonycloud- Not really true, that's why I said I think hoyo made his job harder unintentionally. The game is vast now, it has lots of stuff to cover and he cannot possibly go through it all on his own witout making it so expensive on his time/effort that it just isn't profitable anymore. They do not need to tell him "use this account for everything", they can say "you can use this account to review higher end stuff". I'm not saying they didn't make an agreement with hoyo's wants for the ad nor that Peon didn't put effort into it, I just said hoyo could've guided him a bit so big the game is relative to what he experienced before.
