The stone looks amazing. I hope the door manufacturer can meet your expectations, but if not I guess a different cheaper door would do if you really want to get your home completed faster and more secured since more thunder storms are likely to occur now since it's getting warmer. Can't wait to see more accomplishments on your KZfaq channel. Keep up the good work!

A lot of good quality doors have a seam near the bottom of the jam because they use a more weather resistant material, like fiberglass, to prevent rotting issues. Matt Risinger did an entire video about doors not too long ago, might be worth a watch.

Just a thought on your garage ceiling trim piece to consider. If you paint it black - it will read with the ceiling. If you go with the wall color - it will read with the wall. It might disappear more if it were wall color - with the strong black line as it transitions to ceiling helping to not really see it at all - if that is your goal. Just a thought. If uncertain - you could always paint with the wall - and if you don't like - come back with some black over the top. Harder to do that in reverse due to color bleed through.
@neckofthewoods24
@neckofthewoods24 3 жыл бұрын
Black should help it blend in I think because the ceiling is not smooth. While they dont have the contour, instead of ending flat you end with 1 more “rib” that should finish it. I don’t know but we’ll see.

I just bought some of the GenStone. I thought about a relief cut along the back and top of the top ledge pieces to accept a larger bead of caulking. Then I thought about adding angle flashing before installing the siding just to help with rain etc and keep it running on the outside of the house and down to the ground. Theses also red guard you can add to the exterior before the GenStone install to add some moisture barrier along with the house barrier wrap.

Stone is a great idea but I would stay away from limestone as it is an alkaline and is not safe for some materials. They also make a thin rain screen mesh plastic that comes in Rolls that would be the easy way to install behind all and is around 1/4 thick that is made for cider shingles and behind mortar brick or wood to make an air gap behind. I have a Therma Tru door with side lights in my house and they were great except for the Hinges which I had them replace with roller bearing hinges and it was only $2700 from Lowes. It was foam filled fiber glass with aluminum trim.

If I’m not mistaken it appears that you didn’t caulk each piece after install around the outer horizontal and vertical edge before placing the next panel. Just screwing them in I suspect would create future issues. Won’t that create gaps in the product later once they settle?

1. Keep house attic separated 2. Send the door back. Ran into an issue with a pivot door, we had the option of full return or they could send another to replace it. We opted for replacement but wish we had just gone with another company. 3 years later the door isn’t holding up. 3. I’d keep the board and batten all the way up on the gable end (go with the LP 16’ers). I think another horizontal brake in your wall will cause the wall to look segmented and layered instead of grand. With the GenStone at 48” that gives a focal point while the vertical siding will give the eye a place to rest. You don’t want it too busy with garage doors and 3 different siding looks (in my opinion)
