As a fellow English man you are a credit to our country. At 65 I am still trying and still learning to be a gentleman. Like you, I have no interest in social media and truly despair at some of the you tube videos that pop up with young men's opinions of women. Your videos show the correct way to behave. Please keep up the good work

I am a 78 year old lady who enjoys listening to your videos. It's great that you are out to educate young men about being gentlemen. Bravo! I do wish to differ about hats, though. Stylish fedoras are always in style. They can make men look very sexy and I'm sorry they are not generally in style anymore. I live in a hot weather country and occasionally I see men in straw fedoras. If a man has the type of head that wears a hat well, it can be a chick magnet, so I wouldn't rule that type of hat out. But, please, no baseball caps, especially worn backwards or sideways. To me that spells, Super Jerk. I feel like I'm crying in the dark when I go on the defense of fedoras... but, gentlemen, do consider it! -- Thanks for your excellent videos, James! Wishing you great success with them!

As an American, I am apalled at the way I see men and women dressing day to day. I give you a lot of credit for explaing the need to present yourself well. Respect for others begins with awareness and respect for ourselves. I think that we need dress codes so ordinary people can begin to wake themselves up. I was in a dentist office in the waiting room for one and one half hours. The lack of respect for my time, the cell phone conversations that everyone could hear, the skin tight yoga pants almost made me sick. I see the same kinds of disrespectful things in the local geocery stores. Didn't Rodney Dangerfield talk about no respect? All I can do about it is be an example of kindness, patience, respect and good grooming. Thank you for your efforts to "save America".

Most classic British or German cars from the 60’s 70’s and 80’s are the best cars. I don’t think modern cars can be gentlemanly because a lot of them are automatic and they all have pointless gadgets and sensors on them. A Daimler or a Wolseley 16/60 is a good gentlemanly car. I have a 1970 600bhp fully mechanical diesel Mercedes w109 and a bmw e28 and a vw mk2 jetta, these are fun to drive and have little to no electrics to worry about breaking

To add: One way to ruin your gentlemanly image is a messy or smelly car. It's not a great look when you offer someone a ride but they first need to clear all the stuff off the seat before they can sit. Even worse: trash on the floor. Keep your car looking and smelling clean always. (Same goes for your home and for your desk at work)

Hi James, have been watching your channel since you started it. Congratulations for your success! While I rarely write comments on KZfaq channels, I just wanted to write to show my appreciation for such minor details that we, as gentleman, sometimes we don't notice, but only through experience by looking at other gentlemen and practice them. You said you would probably be returning to your home-country in due time, and if you have the opportunity to organise an in-person meeting in London as you did in Chicago, I would love to be there and meet, as well as networking, with some of the gentlemen. I am from Portugal, but currently residing, studying and working in Swansea, Wales, and so I think 4 hours to London Paddington will not be a thing for me. The Pontiac Solstice is a great option for anyone wanting to go the two seater sports car route. My first vehicle was a charcoal grey 2008 Mazda 3 sedan with a sunroof and manual transmission. The colour was neutral, the car was always kept clean and tidy, and wearing a suit to work each day while shifting gears made it feel to me like a truly classy ride. I think in part, the man can make the vehicle a gentlemanly ride by keeping it tidy and also opting for a stick shift in my opinion, definitely helps.

I like this video a lot! There’s so much I could say here because you mentioned a lot of interesting things. For me I got interested in being a “gentleman” also because of clothes. I loved how I felt in nice clothes as a kid and I too would dress up a notch above my peers in college at times. Now I dress up more. I love watching old videos of cities from USA 1950s or so and I like how well everyone seemed to dress, how clean the cars were, and how polite people seemed to be. In my own way I try to bring that to the world when I go out in public.

Very interesting as always, and very thoughtful and balanced answers! As an unabashed "car guy" (albeit an old one....59), I have an opinion. A year ago I picked up a 2007 Aston Martin Vantage, with only about 34k miles. These are truly exotic, handmade, drop-dead gorgeous cars, and you can pick up nice ones for under $50k. They're actually pretty reliable too, especially from this era when A.M. was owned by Ford. Keep up the great content Gent Z!

Black or dark blue are the only correct colours for cars. In a European country, a gentleman drives a new, well-groomed VW Golf. Mercedes and BMWs are for wide boys. Japanese imports are for middle managers who are comfortable with their conformist status in life and who do not dream of another life. "Old money" will drive some beaten up old thing that they inherited from their grandparents because paying for the maintenance of their estate bleeds them dry. A young gentleman is always understated, hence the VW Golf.

Great video, James. I watch all of your videos and really enjoy the calming, relaxing nature of them. I think you could create a Skool community for a small monthly cost of $5 - $10. A free Discord is a good idea, but as the channel grows it will inevitably descend into chaos and die out. A paid community with weekly meetings, advice, live streams would be great. You could go through where you get your clothes from, tips, interviews with tailors, businessmen, and other KZfaqrs who are similar to you. If we're paying for the community, we're more likely to value it and savour the experience. Keep it up and congrats on 65k!

I’ve really been enjoying your channel since I discovered it a couple months ago. Congratulations on your success-well deserved. It was interesting to learn a little more about you here. I have to disagree on the hat topic. It’s important to protect yourself against the sun, plus a hat is just practical for keeping the sun out of your eyes and the rain off your head. I wore ball caps for many years but since I started trying to dress better and improve my style, I have switched to flat caps. I love the look and as I walk around I notice more and more men wearing them; they look way classier than a ball cap. I also have a light woven Trilby that is great for hot sunny days and looks very stylish. I don’t think hats are dead, they just had a bit of a setback.

Congratulations on the success of your channel! You're correct, Jaguar, Alfa and Mercedes (include BMW in that list) all start to become money pits at about 10 years old. Lexus also has other models than the ES, if one wants something more sporty then the IS350 is the ticket, or for something larger and more stately the GS350 like mine. They will run well past the 200,000 mile mark if kept maintained, but those two have more preformance-oriented engines that require premium fuel. The ES runs on regular, that could be a factor the way gas prices are nowadays. The Infiniti Q series with the twin-turbocharged V6 looks and runs great also, but bear in mind that the turbos could cause issues as they get older, and Nissan and Infiniti's quality has been slipping of late.

This is going to sound quite odd, but a new Fiat 500 would be a great choice if you want something fun yet "gentlemen-like" if you're young. You can pick new ones up for £14,000 or £17,000 for the convertible ones. If you spec them properly, they look fantastic. They may be a little feminine for some, but if you can push that to one side it sets you apart from the typical corsas and ford fiestas most younger men go for.

I'm glad you didn't come down too hard on jewelry, particularly bracelets, because I enjoy wearing them. You don't watch sports either! I've never been a fan, I just don't have the interest. I've often thought they looked good on other men and wearing them lends me confidence. I can be wearing an outfit with an 85$ shirt I got on sale and expensive shoes and people will compliment the inexpensive bracelets. If you create a Discord I will be there, wild horses couldn't drag me away. I pretty much use social media to post my drawings, I'd love to do commissions one day, though that's way down the line. Not every old luxury car is or becomes a lemon. The prior owners of these type of cars tend to take good care of their vehicles. I have a 2001 S series Mercedes convertible that I bought used when it was at 7 years old. I really haven't invested much in maintenance and still am driving it today. I do understand it's a summer car and hasn't seen rain, but most of these cars depreciate fast and become bargains.

Great video! As for vehicles especially when you are younger dont go big and fancy. Get something that'll take no tine to pay off and cheap for maintenance. Keep it clean running good!! I dated lawyers when i was younger when i drove a 20 plus old truck, even a van at on point and 9 times out of 10 they asked to take my vehicle. 🤷‍♂️ One thing i disagree about is a good hat. They are in style always have and always will be. Just stay away for the baseball hat if you are trying to dress up at all! A quality fedora, flat cap even a cowboy hat will give your outfit/ look that extra touch. A quality hat will take confidence to wear at fisrt but will soon add to your confidence. The most important part is to learn & remember hat etiquette!! I definitely agree about social media. Its a brain drain and can back fire on you quickly. Even if you are joking it can be taking the wrong way years later and then you have to deal with it. 🤷‍♂️ Enjoyed the video, thank you again for your time. Cheers, beers and whiskey 🤠 🥃

Your advice is excellent and you seem to really walk the walk, but being able to wear this look also requires some context/situational awareness, otherwise a guy could come off as very ungentlemanly. 1. Understand the crowd/don't forget where you come from. If you're from a middle or working class neighborhood, then suddenly dressing like Cary Grant around your buddies is a major douche move and quite phony. Don't try to "flex" on people. I think it's better to take things one tasteful half step above the crowd. That way, you look good without putting people off. 2. I think you have to work your way up to a profession/income level that warrants this kind of style in 2024. If you work in retail, telemarketing, low-skilled labor, then eventually that information will come out in conversations. If we're being honest, people are going to view you as a poser. The word gentleman does have "noble" connotations, and I think people associate this look with those of above average "status, for better or for worse. Your actual life and your style should be relatively congruent Just my two cents. I'm one of the middle class dudes I referred to. I've gone through this phase, pulled up at bars and places dressed to kill, only to get confused looks and even outright snickers after I told them what I did at the time. Maybe you guys are more stalwart than me, but it's better to organically occupy the position. Ultimately, BEING a gentleman is more important than looking like one
