One of my fav songs in my childhood 🥰. A.R. Rahman was in his prime years in the 90s. G.V. Prakash Kumar is the nephew of A.R.Rahman...who is also now a music director and actor. "Chicku bukku" is the sound of the rail engine which is used in the first line.

My fav video song of Prabhudeva+Shankar+AR Rahman is Muqabla from Kadhalan, still holds up imo. With less access to western pop culture in those days, after trickling down and influences visible after a few years much of 90s videos feels like 80s :)

The songs percussion features actual recordings of trains running over tracks...everytime they crossed over a track joint they made a repetitive rythmic noises...AR Rahman used it an interesting effect...Several train songs came after this...

Many times I see the comment by foreign reviews on it looking like 80s although it may be 90s. I was thinking why and I guess it is because Indias economy opened up only in thr 90s before that it was a closed economy with not much globalization..hence the India 90s looks like 80s :)

my fav rahman prabhu combo. this song is just an entertaining train station romantic dance affair put to cut through the intense portion of the movie. it's the spice mixture ala masala aspect of indian mainstream film arts. never let one emotion hurt or hold the audience too long or for too much. this could be one of his better works, shankar, i mean. imo, he progressively got worse with bigger budgets because like rajamouli he had ambitious and imaginative direction but his story integrity and often moral ideas are very wrong or annoying. (an eg. would be torturing a homeless man in anniyan for righteous whatever or making a cis man play a trans woman in the movie "I" so horribly caricaturish and not stopping there, making her hormone treatment one of "protagonists" main point of attack or whatever. I IS HIS worst movie.. very distasteful to say the least) my fav shankar film I'd surely recommend is Mudhalvan. From arjun's (also gentlemans star) sublime acting to brilliant raguvaran as villain to a well crafted tight indian masala that really elevated his ideas of social messaging well. the songs in that are God tier. apologies if my observations offended anyone, but those are my honest thoughts.
