What would you do if you came across an injured squirrel and no rehabbers were available?

We appreciate the fact that someone cared for that squirrel. It deserves all the love and care.

Animals are sentient beings capable of love and affection. So no it’s not crazy. It’s what we all ought to strive for. Respect, coexistence, love and compassion.

You can tell how much you absolutely adore him just from the tone of your voice, he clearly has a very, very special place in your heart. The fact you knew absolutely nothing about squirrels, yet took this little defenceless newborn in, & cared for him like a human newborn with strict feeding schedules etc round the clock, taught yourself everything there is to know about squirrels.. speaks volumes on your beautiful character. I wonder if Gordon’s mum abandoned him after detecting something was wrong? I’m so glad you found him & you & your family were the perfect people for the job. When I was a kid, decades before you could instantly access almost any info via the internet, I found many abandoned baby animals - squirrels, rabbits, birds, etc. Equipped with little more than "common sense" and a love for animals, I rescued, fed, and rehabbed them as best as I could. Looking back, I'm amazed how well most of them recovered.

Thank goodness for people like this, Gordon got lucky landing in her driveway.

He is so adorable. My brother saved a tiny squirrel who fell out of the neighbor’s tree. He and his wife have saved many animals over the years so they made Suzy their second daughter, made her healthy and happy and took her to their friend’s beautiful farm, condo cage and all. Suzy lives like a queen and has been seen entertaining the neighbor squirrels now and then. Bless all the folks who rescue and heal animals in need. You are heroes.

I raised one many yrs ago. My husband found him while at work & he too had fallen out of the nest. My favorite memory is waking up after dozing off for a little while after getting my husband & kids off to work & school & finding him taking a bath on the kitchen table in one of the bowls of milk left from one of my kid's cereal. He had flung milk a country mile & some of the milk on him had started to dry & was stiff. I had a good laugh with nobody else around to enjoy it. They are very sweet, but in my experience once grown they get to a point where nature kicks in & they start to turn wild & aggressive. We returned him to the wild, which I believe is where he wanted to be.

This is such a wonderful rescue story and mom her girlfriend did a great job raising that beautiful squirrel and I am so glad mom's kids are a part of this. Warms my heart.

My chihuahua brought a baby fox squirrel up from somewhere and gently laid the baby on our back door mat, back when I was a kid. It was so sweet because she knew that baby needed help because she had puppies at the time so she had her own babies to take care of, 9 of them to be exact. We raised Chester to be a big ol, full grown, fox squirrel. He was really a handsome squirrel. We built a big enclosure in my backyard for him complete with a tunnel of wire that led up a big pine tree and way out on a limb so he could lay on his little arms and sunbathe on warm days. He eventually got a bit aggressive because he was a male after all, so we released him as we had planned. He did well. We saw him from time to time.

You are a fine example of our species. Well done.

I raised a baby Grey Squirrel. Their noses are right next to their mouth as babies compared to Red Squirrels and it was so hard to feed my squirrel without him choking. It was just like raising a baby as far as feeding hours. I wanted to keep him but I ended up releasing him bc he was so bored in the house by himself all day. They are the most amazing athletes and way smarter and loving than some people know.

Did that twice. Mom rarely takes back or already lost her life before they crawl out of the nest. Our last one bonded with me being the two hour feeder and had a great personality. At six months they often bite and leave. They normally return with a partner and babies of their own. Gordon is cute and males are very affectionate with women. Sweet little man.

I was a wildlife rehabilitator for years. Squirrels are a lot of work but soo rewarding! They are fun watch play with each other. I’m not sure how many I have rehabilitated and released back into the wild but it was >50.

Growing up those were my absolute favourite memories that he would share with me. Whenever we would travel to the US and visit with family, my dad would always always make time to take me out to watch the squirrels and other small animals in the area. To this day, my much older sister still sends me pictures of the local squirrels that visit her property. And another relative noticed that the squirrels near her place would travel along a certain route each day - they had even created a little worn path from using it so often. One visit we installed a “Squirrel Crossing” sign that we made during the holidays. I remember sitting back a ways with some binoculars. I’d be out there for hours just watching the squirrels coming and going along their little pathway - I was obsessed. Squirrels, chipmunks and birds are my kind of people ❤

Absolutely melted my heart. He is so blessed to have a mum that gave him a chance to have a good life. I have had animals all my life dogs, cats, birds, rescued wildlife and many others. They give so much love and joy.
