I've been blessed to have interviewed some amazing people for this program. This conversation with Geoff Thomspon is transformational. He not only endured the abuse he went through. He used it to make himself into something better. He not only forgives, but he is also genuinely grateful for his experiences.
In this heartwarming and enlightening conversation with Brian Smith, BAFTA award-winning screenwriter and prolific author Geoff Thompson reveals his journey towards healing and self-improvement. Delving deep into his own traumatic past, Geoff discusses the profound impact of sexual abuse he experienced at a young age and the ensuing turmoil of confusion and anxiety. Despite the adversities, Geoff emerged stronger and with a profound understanding of the importance of forgiveness and its ability to liberate us from the shackles of negative emotions.
In this video, Geoff passionately emphasizes the need for self-improvement and the profound realization that our thoughts and actions shape our reality. Geoff encourages viewers to delve deeper into religious texts and embrace a broader consciousness by going beyond superficial perceptions and discarding labels. He also discusses the concepts of negative thought forms and energy, underscoring the urgency to increase awareness and cultivate higher energy levels as a defense mechanism against them.
Geoff gives a fascinating analogy between his experiences as a nightclub bouncer and his journey to protect his mind and autonomy. He paints a vivid picture of how he likened the nightclub door to the center of his consciousness, where he controlled what could enter and influence his thoughts and actions. He stresses the importance of reclaiming energy from our fears to create something meaningful and impactful.
Geoff explores the power of perception and its role in overcoming life's biggest challenges. Sharing his experience of metaphorically escaping an impenetrable prison using a metaphysical tool, he inspires us to start small, be kind, and carefully examine our thoughts. He also emphasizes the need for forgiveness, explaining its potential to free us from anger and regain control over our lives. To aid others on their journey toward forgiveness, Geoff offers free resources on his Instagram page and through his book on forgiveness and revenge.
This video is a must-watch for anyone seeking inspiration to overcome personal hurdles, transform negative energy into positive outcomes, and embrace forgiveness as a powerful tool for personal liberation. Don't forget to follow Geoff Thompson on Instagram and check out his book for more insights into his inspiring journey.

🎥 What is your biggest takeaway from this video? 🤔💡 Why is forgiveness important? 🤷‍♀❤🙏 Must we wait for an apology? 📝⏳🔍 Did you find Geoff to be as brilliant as I did?

i couldn't forgive some family members for for a LONG time. Who did it affect? Who suffered because I didn't forgive them? Not them. That's why I forgive. It's the right thing to do for me.

I’m floored. I needed these ideas brought into my purview as I’ve been (causing my own) suffering and not able to let go of a lost relationship that ended violently. Thank you just doesn’t seem to be enough here.

Absolutely Brilliant offerings in this podcast. Can't wait to listen to it again and find some of Geoff's books. My biggest takeaway (and I'm paraphrasing) "Stop trying to change the world from the perspective of the screen and start changing it from the perspective of the projector." (i.e. Yourself.) But there were many, many more takeaways!! Thank you!!

Very well articulated. I would like to offer part of some writings awarded to me in my wonderings. FORGIVE Forgive from your heart Let It heal your life Nothing can hold you Like a fair bit of strife The hardest to get through Are the things that We do Known only by us Yet they can still puss They fester and grow And live on all the while With each new day. It gets harder to smile Your greatness is here now Lets show them all how When love is involved Much can be solved The love that you are Lays buried deep inside Just waiting for the hate to subside Loved ones cannot help you Only you can mend All the hurt and despair that you still defend Your spirit is calling For you to be free Forgiveness is golden And I’m sure you’ll agree There is nothing nicer That you’d like to be So forgive and move on now And then you will see All the good things that life brings Known to more than just me

I've definitely heard the analogy that negativity is a virus. Just hadn't thought about it in terms of not hating the virus or the organism, but focusing on eradicating it from your body & protecting it from reinfection.

Reading the other comments here makes me think that perhaps I didn't understand Geoff. What I thought he was saying was there's no need to forgive if there's no apology from the perpetrator. What I thought he said is to let go rather than forgive. Practicing forgiveness without an apology or act of contrition from the perpetrator seems like an act of superiority. Pointless and armoring instead of freeing. I want to be free of the gunk, the ick, the sickness of injury. I'll listen to this interview again because I'm sure I didn't get everything he said. But I really loved it that I understood there's no need to worry about forgiving until there's been an apology. Letting go of, shedding or healing from the virus is something I can do. As usual, Brian, thank you for another wonderful, helpful, inspiring conversation!

Geoff than you so much. I’ve been so deep in the pain and suffering from unfathomable actions of a parent. Forgiveness is such a difficult concept when you’re so taken with the unjustness of the situation. It’s too quickly seen and felt as acceptance. Ok-ness with what happened and allowing of the abuse. Forgiveness feels like you aren’t standing up for yourself. And so it takes some explaining to understand why you should consider it. Life feels so unfair that we have to deal with these invisible things such as these “parasites” that affect us so badly. How are we supposed to know this. Why is it all so hidden and ambiguous? Why can’t it be easier? Anyway. It was certainly serendipitous that I came across this interview. I just purchased your book. Thank you for your guidance and support in such a difficult topic.

Brian thank you. You asked why should we forgive 20:40 . It’s such a simple question but so important. If forgiveness does actually achieve to alleviate suffering then it’s such an important question. I’ve asked that question ‘but why forgiveness’ so many times. What actually is the mechanism of action that unlocks such a deep and debilitating pain. Why does this thing called forgiveness work? So thank you for asking such an obviously important question.

I really enjoyed the interview, but I wished he'd offer some suggestions on how to practice forgiveness, from his perspective....I know he mentioned "start with The Power of Now", but even though I've read the book a couple of times, that thing about "the pain body" always just leaves me feeling confused....

Probably not the level of depth you're looking for, but I know Geoff has said going for runs has been his favorite activity in dealing with depression. He also recommends reading lots for inspiration (not just one particular book, but keep the reading coming).. He mentions briefly in this interview, writing a "fear pyramid" helped him be systematic in his approach kzfaq.info/get/bejne/p9GjpKRyrNPDZXk.html He also published a book on the topic just last month if you're interested

Hi Geoff, one point that is still unexplained. 12:45 God did abandon you. Just like god allows every heinous act that humans suffer. How do you reconcile that. If you truly believe in a loving god then you suffer twice. You can take responsibility for yourself yes. But your feelings of hurt and betrayal by the god who is supposed to love you is still unresolved and the question of ‘why did you allow this’ still remains unanswered. I’m sure many of Brian’s guests who have suffered such unfairness ask this question too and then suffer gods silence. It makes you wonder if god even exits. It feels like this environment called earth is just a cruel game where we’re free to do as we wish and the idea of god is just made up, and really we just create it all. And maybe it was just you who wrote all your books etc. your wiser self. But If god IS real and omnipresent and is everything that exists then shouldn’t that mean that god is all the evil too? It’s very hard to reconcile that there is a loving god who allows all the suffering here.

It's really not that hard to reconcile that the universe is based on love yet suffering occurs in this realm, especially when you come to understand the point of that suffering. Geoff is grateful for all of his life, including the suffering because he has attained the perspective that suffering can lead to growth.
