New Brighton Tower was 521 feet, three feet higher than Blackpool. The Tower itself was demolished in the early twenties, but the building with the circus etc went in the sixties.

Up here in Newcastle they are charging about £14 for Cod & Chips, I go to Morrisons now, Fish & Chips & Mushy Peas for £6.99, It is half price of the Fish Shops. The Fish is large & Plenty of Chips, nice Mushy Peas as well. Plus you get a sit down as well.

Food prices are going thru the roof but wages are not going up. So many food places closing even chippers.

Geoff, the tower was 567 ft in height which is about 173 meters. On 7 September 1909, a lady and her 12 year old daughter were left at the top of the tower as they missed the last lift of the night . They had to spend the night at the top of the tower and were discovered the next morning.

Not been to New Brighton for 30 odd years. Caught the ferry from the Pier Head, then walked along the river. Will have to visit again, it’s only 12.5 miles from me.

Its not a castle as you said Geoff its a fort. It was used during the war as an observation/look-out point to stop German subs and boats getting to Birkenhead & Liverpool. You used to be able to visit and see the operations rooms set up. Over at the arcade, in a side entrance, you go down underneath where there was a bar in the 60s. You can still see the remainder of it now. Also there was a tour you could go on down there as it has a fascinating history. There was an air raid shelter down there, but what the people didnt know that also down there with them was a secret munitions factory. They were making bombs and shells etc. When the announcement came ending the war, everyone just left and the machinery was left down there. Further along the beach past the Floral Pavillion Theatre is a sculpture of a dog. It marks the fact that the first guide dogs came from New Brighton. Further along on the beach is The Black Pearl. A pirate ship built from driftwood. You can stand on it. Across the road is a lovely park. It is a bit of a steep climb up if you arent very mobile. Amongst the flowers and trees are little sculptures made of natural things, and fairy houses. There is a band stand that has entertainment on certain days, and a lovely cafe serving drinks, snacks, cake etc and do a wonderful afternoon tea. At the entrance from the prom are exercise equipment free to use. The smuggling tunnels that came out in the hills have been boarded up for safety reasons. There is a brilliant cafe at the end of the arcade row. Does home cooked food. Amazing breakfasts and great Sunday roast and a lovely frothy coffee. They do brilliant take out too. Their butties are lovely. The rock shop also sells buckets and spades and crabbing kits. Very popular in the marina. I think the old boating lake for model boats is still there. Large areas of green to have picnics. A big cinema, plenty of eateries, a Morrisons if you want to do your own meals. Not sure if tennis courts still overlook the prom. Alan missed out on fantastic Ice Cream. If you go to Cafe Creme, they have so many flavours, and they make it on the premises Hope this helps x

Hi Geoff Well this video certainly brings back memories...I used to go to New Brighton when I was a child and Im 75 now...Did you know that New Brighton used to have 2 fairgrounds...One outdoors and the more famous Indoor Fairground with its own roller coaster inside...Just the job when it was raining...The Fish and Chips looked nice so 8 was a reasonable score....Do you remember the boat The Royal Iris that used to go from Liverpool to Birkenhead Hamilton Square and we would sometimes get the boat from Birkenhead to New Brighton just for a change from going in the car...I better shut up.....Bye for now looking forward to the next one...Keep Smiling

Even growing up in Warrington never made in to New Brighton. Dad from Liverpool as well. Went Blackpool, Rhyl and parents recently lived in Llandudno so went those more. My cousins only live 10 minutes from there so after this vlog of yours showing off the place I will have to go and have a mooch, thanks. It's no Thailand though lol 😉🇹🇭

Brilliant video. You two are funny, just found your channel this eve. Im just discovering New Brighton and have seen another vlogger this eve with another good historic vlog about it. I plan on visiting soon from Liverpool Lime st direct to New Brighton (25 mins) Sod driving and parking though guys, take the train, less stress. xx About the Fish & Chips, an average couple can easily share one between them and costs a lot less. The size of the portions are pretty hefty. xx

Nice one Geoff , the price of take away grub has rocketed everywhere but I was in Blackpool over the May bank holiday and I had a large haddock chips and mushy peas for £ 6.50 and it was real tasty , there's a lot of chip shops in Blackpool so there's a lot of competition and it keeps the prices down..... Nice to see you posting vids again it's been a long time , and I may even bump into you again in Pattaya in near future, Cheers Geoff.... 👍

If you ever get to the North East Coast Geoff we've some great fish and chip shop's. Redcar has The Little Chip l got a small cod chips and scraps for £6.00....and it was great... it's one of England's oldest fish shops been there well over 100 years .

Paid nearly 30 quid for a pint and breakfast at lake Windermere the other day. Amazing day out and the high prices usually keep the riff raff away so all good mate 😂
