Lapwony means Teacher in Acholi dialect from Northern Uganda.. The dad of Geofrey Oryema was called Eronayo Oryema, he was the first Inspector General of Police in a post independence Uganda. He was murdered by dictator Idi Amin. My dad was his driver. That is how he ended up in exile in the1970s in France where he lived until his death.

I've just found Oryema thanks to yt recommendation. I'm impressed. It's amazing music, even when I don't understand a word. However I wonder what is he singing about. Can anyone translate it, or just tell content less or more? Please.. Greetings from Poland! : )

It’s a poetic piece. This song is more than what it says. It’s a mixture of joy and sadness. It says;shortage of money stops me from marrying and has made me stingy (chan lim neka Nono wek adoko lagingi)The chorus on the other hand says;it rained on the teacher(kot ogoyo lapwony) This is an Acholi/luo language from the northern part of Uganda(East Africa. RIP legend
