The term "terroni" refers to the Italian for "land" (that is "terra"). So basically we are saying that people in the south are strongly linked to land. I think it refers to the south being more agricultural and less cosmopolitan. Some people use this term, but it can be offensive in some contexts.

those who live in southern Italy, on the other hand, usually call the northerners: "bauscia", the equivalent of terroni which is always offensive. Sources? Sono Italiano waliò e pure terrone.

What a hell dude, never heard a word like that in my whole life and I've always lived in Italy. The mafias are all located in southern Italy and have specific names such as: "sacra corona unita" or "ndrangheta" or even "camorra" and we never insult each other about this, on the contrary, often and in some cases calling someone: "cammorista" is a way to indicate a smart person.

Italy is beautiful. 🇮🇹 They are our neighbors across the Adriatic. Italy has an incredible culture and history, one which I am deeply interested in, respect and love. There is so much about Italy that I get excited about, there's just no way of listing it that would do it justice. From Friuli to Sicilia and Sardegna, no part of Italy is uninteresting to me. I love Italy. I wish Italy all the best, from Croatia. 🇭🇷❤️🇮🇹

As somebody from near Naples, I just want to say that lots of us feel the same about Eastern Europe, especially Croatia. I've visited most of the countries and I'm amazed at all the cultures but also the similarities we share. Like gifting coffee and sugar to mourning families at funerals.

After WW II many people from south italy, mostly low cultured farmers, left their homes to work in the factories in the north which was far more industrialized so, in northern cities, there were a lot of "new people" who was born in the south, had different (usually "lower") culture and does'nt know how to behave in a big city. "terroni" became a word to identify this people in a bad meaning. At that time, in some part of northern italy, there were signs outside shops and bars reading: "no dogs and 'terroni' allowed here". Now "terroni" does not have anymore a meaning strictly related to the region of birth, it has more a mening of a person who do not know how to behave in a polite way. Nontheless in the north it is used to identify southern born people but mostly as a joke. Sorry for my bad english ;)

you are wrong, very wrong, italians are very active, very energetic people, and in the summer it's HOT, 35+°c is not uncommon even getting to more than 40°C in some areas (not common but it happens every once in a while), the real problem is the humidity (mostly in the po valley), it makes the heat feel much worse

Ruben Fasola speaking of italian weather, it is atrocious in the padan plains (or po valley*) because in the winter, it can go down to -15c while in the summer it can go up to 40c, and as you already said, humidity is a problem: it is too humid there, all thanks to the alps around us that dont let the air and winds blow as they should. But i guess you get used to it after decades of living there :)

My first/only trip to Europe as of now has been a two week stay in the area of Apulia in the heel of Italy. It was the absolute best and I've been dying to go back ever since. We rented a car and drove everywhere which was great. Started in Lecce, then Brindisi, Ostuni, Alberobello, Matera, and finally Bari as well as checking out multiple beautiful beaches along the way. No tours, just driving and exploring everything at your own pace, I gotta say was the way to go.

Thanks for this video. My parents who are the children of Italian and Sicilian emigrants to the United States of America were so adamant about becoming Americanized that they shared very little of Italy and Sicily as well as their parents' histories. What I learned about Italy and Sicily came mostly from books and videos, and not my parents. Even so I am loyal to Italy, Sicily, and the United States, Michigan and California in particular since the former is where I was born and the latter is where I was raised. Viva Italia! Viva Sicilia! Terroni has various meanings, such as: lovers of the earth (in the sense of cultivated land), hoe earth, terra matte and others. it probably has origins from when Italy unified and therefore the inhabitants of the south were commissioned to cultivate the vast lands that historically belonged to the counts and lords who ruled the duchies and the various kingdoms. I am not an expert but as an Italian I can learn a little more about other people and share all this with other people from other countries, a greeting to all from Italy and I thank the channel for having accurately explained all aspects of Italy P.s. north is better than south (joking)

7:30 basically the term "terroni" has its origin from the past because in the south italy in the past most of population were farmers so they work with soil (in italian it's "terra") but remember it's dispregiative same as polentoni

Terroni basically derived from "terra", land in English. When industrialization happened in Italy (mostly in Northern Italy) the South remained mostly agricultural, and in a certain way still stuck by the land as was in the medieval ages. It becames an insult when a lot of people from the south moved to the north to work, as the southern where considered rough and uncultured.

As a Belgian student, I went on a 10 day Italian trip with school. We visited some North/ Central Italian cities like Venice, Pisa, Florence, Assisi and Rome, it was wonderful!

When I think of Italy I think of Raphael, Leonardo da Vinci, Galileo Galilei, Amedeo Carlo Avogadro, Alessandro Volta, Ettore Majorana, Dante Alighieri, Michelangelo, Donatello, Giovanni Boccaccio and many more! Italy gave the world many great scientists, painters, architects, etc, and influential to world history. Iran maintaining continuity with its own Persian heritage. Iranians are among the most educated people in the world. Persia has a great culture, civilization, rich mythology, and history. Persia gave the world many scientists, poets, and philosophers, such as khayyam, Rhazes, Bubares, Avicenna, Khwarizmi, Nasir Tusi, Mani, Borzuya, Fakhruddin Razi, Abd Rahman Sufi, Jamshid Kashani, Ferdowsi, Hafez, Saadi, Qutb Din Shirazi, etc, who are among the best scientists of human history.
