Just skip to 10:15. You're welcome. This time I fly "Solo"-mon. Actually not. WE GOT A SOLO to Join us! Meet TERRY! (Thanks to geograpeep Josue for getting me in contact with him too) Huge props to him for being in this episode, he was a little anxious because he had no camera experience and English is his 3rd language (after Isatabu and Pijin) but I was NOT going to let a unicorn walk away. You rock Terry! ALSO, we only BRIEFLY mentioned the history, and didn't have enough time in this episode for Famous people, So I'll add it in Fan Friday.

@Ryne 4S if we wanna talk abt Papua Politic and the connection with Indonesia, topic abt papua politic itself arise in 2000's after long years of failed integration. And if you care enough to read abt papua's politic then you'll find that politic culture in Papua and other region in Indonesia is as diferrent water and fire. The history of Colonialism and integration in 1963 shape the way Papua's politic occur in this modern time.

@Ryne 4S you seem to be like break other countries. i am sure as an indian too that papua can't sustain without indonesia because unity only can make you rich and if we talk about recognisation, kazakhstan, uzbekistan, turkmenistan andother pacific islands till now many people don't know. so i don't think anyone can get recognisation by independence because everyone will forget you after some years if you don't develop like singapore.

Let me share a story of mine from Solomon Islands. I was traveling from Honiara to Auki by ferry. It was one of the smaller & faster catamaran boats. Anyway, about 20 minutes into the journey I saw a fish jump up from the water and fly just as fast as the boat. It flew around 30cm above the water for over 30 to 60 meters at a 45 degree angle away from the boat. I was by myself and had never seen something like that in my life. I even had doubts if it was real. I thought I was hallucinating due to the heat. In fact, I was so shy, I stopped myself from asking any of the locals on the boat if they had seen one before. I was worried that they would think I was crazy. It didn't take long however to see more and more of these flying fish and I was confident that I wasn't the only one who could see them.

My great great uncle, Robert Adams Downing was shipwreck in the Solomon Islands during World War II. His ship was called the USS Helena, and it was torpedoed three times by the Japanese. He was helped out by friendly natives and was sent home a year later in 1945. Thank you to the Solomon Islander people for saving and taking care of him. Love from the United States.🇺🇸🇸🇧

Hi Paul ! Thank you so much for this cool and instructive episode ! It’s cool that you brought Terry, a guy from the Solomon Islands. It’s a shame that this part of the world isn’t talked about more in western media, so once again, thank you. You said that the Solomon Islands were part of the South Pacific Commission, but it is now called the Pacific Community (SPC or CPS in French). I’m really looking forward for the Vanuatu episode. Good job 👍🏽

Solomon Islanders, if you read this, thank you for being the ones who saved our 35th president. Without you the history of the whole world would be different. Your Biuku Gaza and Eroni Kumana initiated the rescue. A small nation, your step into history nevertheless changed history. So the geography we all share bids us to ask not what your country can do for you but what you can do for the world.

7:11 More information on the World Discover. It was a relatively small cruise liner for its time being built in the 1970’s, being sold to Society Expeditions Cruise Inc in the 1990’s, it was built to do small expeditions. The World Discover was sailing in the Solomon Islands in a pretty uncharted reef when it hit a rock, tearing a hole in the hull. The captain, knowing they would sink where the were, beached the ship in a bay between the two islands it was sailing in, where it rest today.

I almost fell out of my seat when he said guadalcanal that is where the USA took its first offensive of ww2 and marines held out there against Japanese attacks for weeks until reinforcements arrived. They said they were dyeing in some far of land they never heard about and that statement is still true today .
