Hallo mate, new idea for a geo game: play the "i saw the sign" map on geogessr, where you'll see signs nearby with the name of the place, and you can zoom and move around, BUT - you're not allowed to scroll NOR zoom into the map itself to look for the place - so you have to click as close as possible from the whole thing

My results: #1: The text seemed Malay or Indonesian, didn't find anything to narrow it down, went for Sarawak. 2195 points #2: Large, French-speaking city in Africa. I did guess Dakar, chose the wrong road but still was pretty close. Not as close as you, but 4990 points is still something I'm very happy with #3: For a bit I wasn't even sure what continent I was in, but then saw 'RUS' on the car numberplate. Without much more to go on, I went for Moscow. 3582 points. #4: Found Albuquerque, but went much too far east near the edge of the city. 4965 points #5: I search and search in Baltimore, and then it's Washington. Oops. 4797 points Total: 20,529 points. I've done worse. Much worse.

3:40 That's a Minang (tribe in West Sumatera) traditional house, it's called "Rumah Gadang"
@anggaperdana9136
@anggaperdana9136 4 жыл бұрын
Or just a building with a "gonjong" roof, a bull horn-shaped roof which is a characteristic of traditional Minangkabau architecture. In West Sumatra, all buildings can have "gonjong" roofing, from ordinary houses to public places like mosques, libraries, government offices, or the "rumah gadang" used for public hall and ceremonial activities. In the case for 3:40 it's hard to tell, and if I have to guess it's probably some kind of a government building because they have a flag in the front.

First time topping Tom's score! Round 1: Really had no idea. Had a feeling about Malaysia so went on the outskirts of Kuala Lumpur. 3545 points Round 2: I saw the French and it, thanks to your videos, informed me that we could be in Senegal. I scanned the map and saw Dakar is the largest city so it just made sense to go there. Picked the wrong street but was within 1.6 miles. 4991 points. Round 3: Immediately Russia and Ukraine came to mind because it looked... well... sad and dreary. Went the Ukraine route outside of Donetsk, so wasn't a bad guess. 3702 points. Round 4: Thanks to Breaking Bad I know where Albuquerque is. Like you, Tom, it took a little bit to find Ash. But got it spot on. 5000 points. Round 5: Lucky break being able to read Maryland on the plate. First instinct was Annapolis but quickly realized it wasn't big enough. Tried Baltimore, but the street names (17th, K) weren't showing up there. Moved along to DC and found it almost instantly. 5000 points! Total Score: 22,238 Your videos have really helped me get better at the game, Tom. Thank you for pumping out all this awesome content. Me and so many others really do love watching.

1) Saw the signs, Indonesia or Malaysia (didnt see the flag), actually saw Padang but went for Malaysia, 3618. 2) French, Senegal, Dakar. Saw the blurry road name (and intersection) and by chance found it on the map, 5000. 3) Saw Russia on the car plate, based on vegetation it was probably not very northern, went for Volgograd. Pretty happy with this for a Russian round, 3510. 4) Similar to you, Albuquerque, MLK Ave, took me way longer than you to find it on the map, eventually did, 5000. 5) Quickly saw the Maryland plate and the street names, intersection of K NW St. and 17th - tried in Baltimore but no streets had single letter names, went to DC and found it, 5000. Overall 22128 points, good game. Got kinda lucky with the Russian pick, but nothing compared to your CRAZY guess in the first round. Thanks for the fun!

In round one, the shape of the roof of the building that you took for a religious building is a good indicator that you might be around Padang. It is a traditional shape ;) Be careful though, other cultures in Indonesia have quite unique roof shapes that are "kinda spiky" on the sides. You might want to have a look at Toraja roofs in central Sulawesi, or atthe roofs around lake toba, in North Sumatra for your reference ;) Happy games, and keep up your videos, they are a blessing in these times! :)

Sedot = suck(ing) WC = Water Closet (toilet) Sedot WC= basically a service to suck the septic tank when it's full Angkutan = transport Barang = goods, items, stuffs Angkutan barang= a service to help you move out, transport business cargo etc. By looking at one of the house roof in the backgrounds. Most Indonesian can tell that it's in west sumatra. But to make it that close (1km) is impressive.

19,613 points. Distance losses on #1 and #3. Round #1 - Guessed the country but went for the wrong part of the island Round #2 - It took me a while but I've found Rue 11 from the sign Round #3 For a brief second thought that was Poland. RUS on the car plate was bad news - small chance to score points. I was considering Voronezh and Nizhny Novgorod because it all looked still fairly eastern european but with a lot of old cars, so not like Moscow or Siberia. Unfortunately I've chose Novgorod. Round #4 - City and the street were given on a plate, so it was just matter of scouring Round #5 - At first it looked NYC but little off, like Boston or Chicago. So I went to check Philly for 17th street. The K street broke me, I've never heard of such street naming system. I didn't find the exact spot, but 17th was there, Fairmore station was there (misread Farragut), although not North Station... K street was not there... It felt wrong, so I checked Chicago, nope, then Washington and bam, there are those letter street names!

Except for J street. Urban legend says because Pierre L'Enfant hated John Jay, but that's been proven bullshit - back in the "day", I and J were considered the same letter, so J was omitted because of ambiguity.

insaneee indeed... Jaw dropping luck. It took me 5-10 mins to go 500meter away, and I'm Indonesian. No way you would've known that 'religious building' is indeed a traditional house in Padang area (you still can find it in some other areas in Indonesia, but highly, remotely unlikely). Insane

Sedot WC apparently means toilet pump in Indonesian. So that begs the question, why are there so many adds for toilet pumps on the street there? Google search turns up hundreds of hits for various "Sedot WC" companies. Lack of plumbing I suspect?

The Dakar one was pretty easy to figure out once you saw the Rue 11, since Dakar does numerical sorting of smaller streets, so you'd just need to follow the grid until you found Rue 11 and then the avenue.

Senegal had "SEN TV" written on the bus, that was a nice confirmation of having the country right.

I like the way you guest and soluce. For the Voronezh guest you haven't look at nature : trees, forest type , grass color, sky gradient.

Stoked to have beaten the GW on this one, with an insane guess of my own. Certainly a rare occasion. 1. Spotted the Indonesian flag as well, picked a random spot in eastern Java - 1,623 km away for 1,575 points. 2. Put the marker in Dakar on Rue 11. Unfortunately I picked the wrong Rue 11, as there is another one 3 km north of the actual point. 4,989 points. 3. Probably my most insane guess to date. Saw the RUS on the number plate, and thought the foliage looked more southern. Put the mark down in Voronezh on the wrong side of the river. 5 km away for 4,980 points. 4. Full score in Albuquerque - took a bit of searching but got it eventually. 5. Quickly recognized DC street names (letters), found the corner of K and 17th without any trouble. Full score again. Total of 21,544! Keep the vids coming mate.

Ok, the first guess was just epic. Unbelievable, you should make a living out of guessing places.

#1 I moved just cause I can so doesn't count, got the right city but was further away than you anyway. Insane guess :D Rest of the rounds are legit comparisons #2 Figured this would be Dakar. Tried to find the stadium this was right next to but ran out of patience. 6 km off. #3 The only round I actually beat you. Went for Kazan because the vegetation looked like it couldn't be further north or Siberia #4 Again, ran out of patience/experience :P 8 km away #5 I thought of Washington pretty quickly because of some of the architecture, and the combination of obvious hints and street signage eventually led me to the correct location. Perfect score.

License plates for commercial vehicles are usually different from typical license plates. Most often they're just white and boring just like on that UPS van.

That place in Russia could have been aaaaaaaaanywhere. No shame at all. I'm glad you grew a pair and decided to go deep into the country. That's what seperates the mice from the men. But seriously I don't know how they expect anyone to get close with that picture. There wasn't a single clue of a name or feature

On the third one (Russia), I was looking at the trees and it looked more southern than what you were choosing and in all honesty, I was thinking of Voronezh when I saw it south of Moscow :P

Ah, Farragut station. It's in Fallout 3 (set mostly in Washington D.C.), where I recognized it from :)
