Learn about how rocks scrapped off the subducting Juan de Fuca plate are bulldozed together to form an accretionary complex and build the Olympic Mountains. The rainy weather on the Olympic peninsula not only results in a rainforest, it also help preserve the unique geomorphology of the mountains.

It is important to understand that the basalt of Siletzia did not completely slide off the plate onto the continent. Siletzia clogged the trench and broke the plate, twice, causing the trench to jump west and form the current Cascade Arc and a bunch of wide-ranging volcanics related to the slab rollback.

My experience is dominantly with the Crescent Formation. I mapped the soils from 1990-2000 throughout the Olympic National Forest.
