It depends on which resistance you're talking about and what defeat means. If you're talking about hamas, Israel might not be able to take them out completely. But what does the resistance want? To conquer Israel. In that case, Israel can indeed defend against them. It's actually hamas who are failing in gaza. People's expectations of hamas are so low that they believe that the fact that they're not wiped out completely is a victory in itself. Gaza is in ruins.
