I liked the first but then it trails off continuity and source material only using the main characters as side kicks and nostalgia candy. I can still watch them and enjoy them when I turn off my 'RE brain' and just watch as an undead film set. If I turn on my RE brain thats when depression sets in.

I’m so looking forward to the documentary! Resident Evil opened the doors for me to Romero’s work. While Romero’s Resident Evil should have happened, my only complaint to his script was how he would ended the film. But if they were to keep Romero on, the script’s ending might have changed

What's even funnier is in their backstage short they were _"ambushed"_ by Romero's film crew and turned into kids at the sight of George- _(which of course,_ *anybody* _would)_ And when they were finished being done up by the legendary Greg Nicotero, Simon turned to the cam and politely said somethin' like, "Hello and good day! I am zombie, and as you can see, I am inferred by necrosis. It isn't all that bad and if you would like, come by and I'll bite you in the face!" 😁 There was also confirmation by Simon himself that his character Shawn had made it to America but succumbed to the undead! Thought that was pretty cool

George Romero had a flavor to his zombie films that is simply unmatched. I stand by his entire zombie movie catalog. They all have the vibe. Even the bigger budget land of the dead. I personally think that survival of the dead is underrated. His work on RE would have been so memorable and perfect. I cant believe we got thse horrid Paul Anderson movies instead.

Romero was the perfect and only choice for a Resident Evil movie, the campy dialogue of the first game and the dark sinister motives of Umbrella in the second game would be perfect material for his style of writing and with Tom Savini's gore effects it would have been awesome.

I loved the movies we got it was a different story with a new character not something we have already played and seen but when it got rebooted in 2021 was the perfect time to adapt them but was completely screwed up into a abomination of a film there are rumors to why we have never saw a proper Resident Evil adapted film and it’s because apparently capcom won’t let them make it after the games

I remember getting a copy of the script from Tom Savini when I worked at century 3 mall at a sun coast video. Tom was a really cool guy if you treated him like a person and didn’t fanboy. He’d come in for obscure movies and see how the scene was. He talked about the resident evil movie and being a fan since day one he asked what a person who played the game thought of the script and if it was true (Hollywood true) to the source material. He brought me a copy and I went through it. Of course it had to be expanded some to be a movie, but it was really good at the point they had it. After the actual movie came out, he asked how I felt about the take that was made. We were on the same page that they had really missed the chance to do something special. I still have the script given to me (which he asked the moment he handed to me not to ask for any autographs 😂) I left that job in 04, suncoast didn’t last much longer and the mall died, but was open for many years after.

I'm sure the Doc will explore this. I have the copy of Fangoria that featured the Resident Evil film and had a side article, where I'm guessing one of the film executives excuse for not having Mr. Romero as the director, was they felt that with him as the director and his script would only appeal to a limited audience A limited Audience???? You mean like the gamers who made Capcom billionaires or Horror fans who want good films, especially by a Horror master, such as George A Romero. Such a shame, but the one silver lining is that Mr. Romero def made money 🤑 on just his writing the script alone. This was confirmed by a friend of mine who talked with him at a con some years back.

Documentary. I received a license from Capcom to make it. Interviewed people that worked with George Romero. Spent years researching. Read all the scripts. Pablo Kuntz (RE1's Wesker) narrates the documentary. Was shot to feel more cinematic, less like a KZfaq video.

Unfortunately I think the reason they ultimately went with Paul W.S. Anderson, is the fact that he’s notorious for being able to deliver movies fast and cheap. If I remember correctly, George’s original script would’ve cost significantly more to make. It featured the mansion in great detail, and it had way more monsters from the original game, including the Tyrant. It’s a dame shame he never got to make it 😢

Looks a great trailer :) would have been nice to have this and the RE film that we got at the same time. I only like the first RE film. The others were poor in comparison. A more faithful telling of the games, plus movies that did their own thing. But I would have preferred more quality stories than what we got in those later films. The nemesis film was just not very interesting, although it was the second best. The last one was atrocious, welcome to raccoon city.. It was all over the place in terms of plot. But it got the general vibes correct. It was too focussed on showing plot points from the game, i.e. it tried to do too much.

It's a bit of a shame that Resident Evil game franchise veered into more fantasy themes in my opinion. The atmosphere alone in the first 2 games was enough to really keep you on edge. In some of the later games it was more of an action/shooter.

George A Romero would have made a fantastic film and probably opened it like the original trilogy of games have a screen saying this movie has scenes of extreme horror violence and gore I know he did the advert for Resident Evil 2 he could have really done an amazing job on a movie using practical effects and less CGI but sadly it wasn’t the case
