Details,
In 1998, Constantin Film set out to adapt the greatest horror video game franchise of all time, hiring legendary film director George A. Romero. Now, Key 13 Films, in association with Point Five Films and director Brandon Salisbury set out to uncover the mystery behind why Romero’s vision was never produced.
George A. Romero’s Resident Evil is a stylized documentary, utilizing archived footage, unearthed documents, and newly filmed interviews with a wide variety of personalities. The documentary combines elements from Capcom’s hit video game series and the raw, visceral style of George A. Romero to full immerse the audience in a cinematic horror aesthetic.
Now, audiences everywhere will experience the “darkest day of horror the world will never know”, as they uncover the unrequited vision of… George A. Romero’s Resident Evil

@diyambarcil2310 Agreed. Romero's script actually respected the source material. I suppose from a profitable standpoint they did the right thing. But disappointing nevertheless. Anderson's RE films suck.
@CursedWheelieBin
@CursedWheelieBin 9 ай бұрын
@@KirkRedgateI’ve been playing RE games since the original and even I can admit that a good film cannot be made out of this material. It’s just too thin and basic. That was part of the appeal of that first game. Zombies in a mansion, secret lab, ok, annnnnd GO. The only way to flesh it out into something resembling a film is to insert pesky things like characterisation and plot and by doing so you either alienate fans or try to please all of them and fail miserably. People who played the games a lot grew attached to what they saw as “characters” like Jill and Chris by unknowingly projecting qualities onto them because we’re experiencing these events from their perspective. That’s why nobody can even agree on what their personalities even are. It’s also why Chris and Jill can be totally reinvented each and every time they reappear in a new game. I’m saying it’s impossible for a Resident Evil film to be enjoyed and respected by general audiences.

I was very fortunate to meet George back in 2014 at a comic con in London, I got an item signed by him and a picture with him, anyway whilst he was signing my item I asked him if he was ever in the running to direct a Resident Evil film, he looked at me through those thick black glasses and said “yes but lots of industry factors and know it all’s got in the way of that happening and I just walked away”

Except that the games have some really shallow writing with barely any character development and a film needs more than that, no wonder Capcom wanted a different script in the early 2000s, look at the original story, the writing and its characters weren't the strenght of it, even today, a character as big as Leon is known for doing absurd flips, having an outdated haircut and saying one-liners, films need more than that, videogame fans get satisfied with shallow stuff like that but a film audience generally demands more.

George Romero's Resident Evil is the Resident Evil we should have gotten instead of that crap we got from Paul Anderson. I'm definitely looking forward to this.

Well it’s 2024… I want to see this documentary so badly. I am a huge fan of Romero’s zombie flicks (for the most part) and I love a majority of the RE games so a movie from the creator of modern day zombies writing and directing a movie adaptation of a game series inspired by his movies seems like a perfect match.

I remember when that news broke… I actually wrote to Capcom asking why did they fire George Romero? (I was a kid cut me some slack…) but I got a response from them saying, “how could we fire someone we never hired” … still say the Romero Resident Evil would have been the superior to what we got.

I was doing a report on George Romero as a successful person and wanted to see an RE2 commercial he made. Totally did not expect to stumble across this.

Thats something I’ve always wondered about….I remember reading in Gamepro that they got him to direct it and they had Rip Torn to play Barry and then a few months later they said Capcom fired him.

I know for a fact that the legendary George A. Romaro would have made a truly amazing and terrifying Resident Evil movie! His commercial for the Resident Evil 2 game says it all right there! It’s a shame it never came to be all because everyone in Hollywood had their head up their @$$ and wasn’t thinking clearly. I’m interested to watching the documentary to see how it went all down.

All know about george romero is what I saw in thumbnails and heard about that his zombie movies are one of thee best but resident evil are not all about just zombies. In the games there are bio weapons like animals and insects mixed with human dna and hi tech research labs you as the player must go through and a whole other clever death traps and puzzles to deal with. If george romero is still alive then I hope he gets the eerie yet soul soothing music right as well as the locations.

I think Romeros vision was scrapped because there were multiple scripts and it didnt fit with what capcom wanted but capcom changed hands and decided on Anderson to bank on the popularity of the genre at the time and technically it was Anderson RE Film that ignited that dormant spark for the genre in 2002 as we could clearly see the flood if undead flix that came after it , for better or worse.

Maybe somebody already suggested this but someone should make a hint at Capcom & Sony that they could make George A.Romero's version happen as either adult computer-animated action biopunk horror films like the way Degeneration, Damnation, Vendetta and the newest entry Death Island were made. Or in adult animated action, the similar style made like (Netflix)Castlevania (TV series), now that could be awesome I'd say and one can hope to see it come alive someday, buut most probably will never happen anyways 🤷‍♂️.

I read Romero's Resident Evil script way back in the day. Romero strayed from the source material and changed the character backgrounds significantly in Resident Evil 1.
