Ghanian economist and author George Ayittey provides a historic overview of the oppressive and bloody rule of military leaders in Africa. Ayittey describes the way in which these generals have looted countless African countries and devastated much of the continent, and proposes a set of practical steps to keep African states our of the hands of their militaries. The Oslo Freedom Forum is a global event series presented by the Human Rights Foundation (HRF).

I recently was put on to his book, _Defeating Dictators._ He had something to say and a plan of attack. But I wonder how Africa has done in the last 10 years or so.

this is what Ayittey should preech not enforcing democracy on us. he is mentioning Quaddafi but I tell you that Lybians are missing him today. the beging of military rules in Africa was backed by USA

It is a pity Aung San Syu Kyi has turned into a persecutor of the Muslim minorities. Having suffered persecution herself at the hands of the military junta , it really flies in the face of the tenets of tolerance , inclusivity and freedom for her to act like this.

Erom what I know the military junta never left exactly like this guy said the military always had full controle over large sections of the economy and foreign policy.. She was a puppet of the military..
