They talk about messi and Rinaldo being great, but Best did it on pitches like paddy fields, and he rode scything tackles in an era of hard tackling tough defenders and still managed to make them look silly and put the ball in the net GENIUS, not only a greatly gifted player, but also as brave as a lion .GEORGE BEST (RIP)
@eddyvideostar6 жыл бұрын
Chris Evans: Great and truthful comment. If Best was playing in the same era as Messi and Ronaldo, he would have made mincemeat out of both of them combined.
@chrisevans52596 жыл бұрын
eddyvideostar very true, the difference between players of Best's era and the modern players is mentality, you would have to literally cut Best in half to to stop him, where as today players are forever cheating by diving and falling over for nothing. In Bests era you had to be Brave as well as skillful. There's no mistake about it Best was the BEST.
@johndearden79316 жыл бұрын
There is a video on youtube somewhere of Georgie against West Ham. They cut him to pieces and he just rode the tackles or even tackled them back.
@chrisevans52596 жыл бұрын
John Dearden I've seen it, also there's one where Best is literally scythed in half by "chopper" Harris against Chelsea, he runs half the pitch which is a absolute quagmire, skips challenge after challenge, rounds the goalie and pops the ball into an empty net. GENIUS.
@johndearden79316 жыл бұрын
I remember that one. I had the honour? of going to Georges last ever match for United at QPR. That pitch was a quagmire and he ran his heart out. Docherty then dropped him and he walked out.

Max Zelkcovik Actually you’ll find that the great Pele’ said of the time that George Best was the best player in the world, unfortunately George never played on the world stage enabling him to showcase what a genius he was, some games George was playing his football, in what can only be described as a mud bath. here in the UK 🇬🇧 and he still amazed the fans of both teams with his footballing skill. George actually retired from playing football with Man United at the tender age of 27, although he continued playing, he was on a slippery slope to the bitter end, very sad.

@MrParisienWalkways3 жыл бұрын
marillion1 Wow that is funny, that’s great comedy right there! Today’s players are actors who do a double backflip as soon as an opponent gets close. Best was hacked and kicked to pieces every week but he laughed at them and made fools of them, his bravery and tenacity is unmatched. You had to see him at a game live to know what he did on and OFF the ball, his insight was also unmatched. As Pele said George Best was the best player ever.
@marillion13 жыл бұрын
Well you have good taste in music - I once saw Gary Moore and Thin Lizzy but back to footer.Please watch some old clips of Pele and Maradona- both got kicked as much as Best, played on equally bad pitches but the big difference you will see plenty of clips where Pele and Maradona beat 5 sometimes 6 players before scoring..Best great as he was I think the max was 3 players left in his wake.By the way I saw Best play for NI against England in 1969 live. and yes he created trouble for what was then a strong England defence .Messi has the luxury of beter pitches and protection but his ball control is even better than Bests as is his shooting and free kicks.
@Telcontar19626 жыл бұрын
The thing that makes players from that era head and shoulders above the counterfeits hyped up today is the sheer courage they displayed. People may prefer that has been removed from the game (and admittedly some of it was just plain criminal) but the fact remains that they had to face some fearsome tacklers.

Its always goal 7 for me. That lob over big pat always sends a cold shiver down my back. The way george sort of ran into the box just as pat got half a punch on it as he was challengend, then the way george just leanend back with arms out and let the ball on a heavy muddy park just bounce onto his chest then let it drop onto his right foot and lobbed it over 2 men who were on the goal line plus big pat who was a bit further out and a few other players infront of him but had no chance. It was sheer genius. Not many goals have moved me in all my years watching football but that was the first goal that did move me. As a kid aged 8 or 9, in 1981 or 82. I can still remember the first time i seen it, i got up off my chair and said out loud "oh what a goal...did you see that there..that was brilliant..oh what" while smiling. Becouse i saw hundreds of goals and was football mad but that was different. As i had never seen any player score a goal like that before. And its the hardest goal to score? Becouse most goals are scored with a hard shot or soft shot if up close and with the ball on the ground, but not only did best have to think so fast to then control it but when the ball drops onto his foot he has to know exactly the amount of weight to put on the lob as hes lobbing it over alot of players and from around 14 yards out and at an angle, he knows he just has to clear the crossbar by about a foot. And notice all the players just look at the ground as its nobodys fault. What can you do when the ball is at least 2 feet above you and can only watch it sail into the net. And goal 4 is pure class, the way ron harris tried to take georges two legs clean off, theres no doubt about it ron DID get george alright but george waverd a bit but still stayed up then the keeper just looked so lost as he came far out to stop george, but george went round him so easy as if he wasnt there then just put it in the net. George made it look simple, but that was one of the greatest goals any one will ever see. The brutal tackle that would have put most players into row ten or down in agony for 20 minutes, but to carry on to then make a fool of one of the best goal keepers at that time just made you want to go out and play football as a kid and i did.
