Here's a short story about Bestie . It was Bobby Charlton's testimonial at Old Trafford , George didn't play . After the game I stood with my dad at the players' exit hoping to 'meet' George and get him to sign my book . All the players came out including some celebrities but not George. We had parked the car not far away . Dad told me to wait as he went to bring the car round and we would go home . A few minutes later he came back and told me he had met George in the car park and that he was waiting for is , I couldn't believe it. Anyway we got to the car park and sure enough George was waiting , he had a purple E-Type Jaguar I remember . I was 11 at the time and to say' Hi George ' to my hero was almost too much for me . Many people talk well of George , what a nice man he was , the fact that he waited to meet an 11 year old boy when he could have so easily driven away is testament to his kind soul . For me he was really THE best .

I met George in April 1994 at the Ulster Museum in Belfast, when he came to promote a Football Exhibition. I still have the programme he signed to this day. Sad to think that George, Maradona and Pele have all passed away. That will be some kickabout in Heaven. RIP ⚽️

I love the fact that his dad talked of him never descriminating anyone for their background, colour or race and listing off these great aspects of his personality and sticking up for his son. He made mistakes, and dad was highlighting that it is easy to judge someone based on their percieved negative habits, when in reality he was a lovely bloke.

GENIUS LEGEND SIMPLY THE BEST.

In the 80's he had a club off Baker Street called 'Besties' ... he used to drink in a local pub 'The Duke of Wellington' in Crawford Street where I worked. I resolved to ask GB for his autograph, he said shall I sign it on one of these posters (of himself) that he kept with him. I was thrilled to get this for my youngest brother. He charged me £20 for the privilege ... Considering I was only earning £90 @ week that was a rather big chunk of change. Still a great player though.

In 1968 i was 11yrs old when I saw my 1st football match. My Dad was in the United States Air Force and we were stationed at RAF Upper Heyford, England. That match was Manchester United. And my favorite players were George Best, Bobby Charlton and Dennis Law. I'm 67yrs old now, and still their matches here in Texas !

What a perfect surname for one of the greatest players of all time. The Holy Trinity of Bobby Charlton, Denis Law and George Best of the early 1960s to early 1970s were just magnificent. The Portuguese and Spaniards called him “El Beatle” due to his boyish looks and lothario attitude.

Tavy@ george looks about age 75 here at least. How thin his neck and face had went shocked me there. A think this was about 2 years before he died, so he was only age 56 or 57. But the greatest player i have ever seen touch a ball. If you talk about skill, this man had the lot and more! Timing, brave, hard, two footed, great in the air, tenacity, skill, total self- belief, flair, pace, confidence, remarkable speed of thought, some very skilful players lack a finish, but best had total self-belief. Without any obvious flaw that i could see. He was the greatest player in the world from 1966 to 1972 and by a mile. He was unstoppable in those years, no player on this earth at that time could stop george best by fair means or foul. Rightly the goal he scored against chelsea - as he ignored scything tackles from some of the toughest, most ruthless ever to play the game - is seen as the embodiment of so much of his ability. It showed courage, resilience and a skill that simply could not be tamend. That was the hard side of him, the one that could see him clouted so hard he wobbled but refused to go down; but then there was also all the delicacy wich came out when, say, he chipped the ball over a goalkeeper, exhibiting sublime execution gauged to the very inch. They dont see anyone who is qiute like George Best.

May 1st 1971 changed my life. Jimmy Armfield's last ever game for Blackpool: Blackpool: Burridge, Arnfield, Hatton, Johnston, James, Alcock, Burns, Green, Craven, Wann, Hutchison, Bentley Man Utd: Stepney, Dunne, Burns, Crerand, James, Sadler, Law, Gowling, Charlton, Kidd, Best, Sartori My Scouse dad had wanted me to see Armfield play in person, it just happened to be Utd. For 90 minutes I watched who I believe is one of the greatest footballers of all time run rings around the Blackpool players, who back then where quite literally trying to break legs. It ended 1-1 and on the way home to Preston I explained to my dad the following: "I know you want me to support Liverpool cause it's were you are from, but I've just watched the greatest footballer ever, Georgie Best.. I'm sorry but I have to support Man Utd from now on!" Almost 50 yrs later.. nothing much has changed and neither has my opinion of George - This BS about Messi and Ronaldo are based on players playing on pitches you could eat your diner off.... back then they played on quagmire fields and sill produced magic!
