Carvey was rarely dead-on with impressions but he is arguably the best with creating caricatures of famous people.

Yeah he was funny impersonating him but it I was never fooled unlike Jim Carey’s recent impression of Joe Biden in which he nailed it.

That’s the thing though. It’s his brilliant way of satirizing in a loving way that makes up for the less accurate impression. But the best impressions are often so realistic as not to be as funny. Dana Carvey is a legend.

Are you that naive? Politics has BEEN THE SAME THING SINCE MAN COULD THINK. The government was never more evil than during Vietnam with LBJ and McNamara and all them. In fact the politicians of todays are just a bunch of overgrown cry babies. 9/11? 20 years of the war on terror (less than 10k KIA). Modern politics ain’t got shit on anything in the 20th century. There has never been a better time than just to throw your head back and laugh your ass off. DONALD TRUMP WAS ELECTED TO THE PRESIDENCY OF THE UNITED STATES OF AMERICA AND THE WORLD DID NOT DESCEND INTO NUCLEAR HOLOCAUST. This was such a great (though whacky!) explanation of the budget gap, why Bush had to raise taxes. I'm surprised a skit like this didn't help keep his ratings up. Still, a great president and a good man (and a great impersonation by Carvey, as always). RIP Bush41.

His read my lips no new taxes pledge and failing to keep it kept him from winning re-election in 1992. Dana Carvey was so funny impersonating George H.W. Bush.

ILoveStorms - Probably. Another problem was that the victory over Iraq was becoming tainted by horror stories (war isn’t clean or pretty). Also, there were legitimate accusations of lying to garner support for the war. All that stuff together (and more) sunk 41. Also, Bill Clinton was a masterful politician.

@@thetooginator153 The emphasis on foreign policy had decreased, which was his strength. The victory over Iraq in the Gulf War in 1991 gave him a very high approval rating. But the economy was in a recession and his popularity dropped as time went on that year. Perot also hurt because him running took votes away that he otherwise would've gotten, and he also didn't run a very good campaign in 1992.
