The opening guitar riff is so recognizable, George had such a great style. After watching the Get Back doc, you have to be impressed at how sweet a guy George was, when he helped Ringo with Octopus' Garden it nearly brought a tear to my eye. Trouble getting your songs on the Beatles records? They'll only give you two songs? Okay, no problem, just write two of the most iconic songs ever for the Abbey Road album, Something and Here Comes the Sun, a little poetic justice there.
@DrTomoculus5 ай бұрын
And McCartney, that dude. Was reluctant to even say those two songs didn't suck. The way McCartney was towards Harrison was awful. Lennon wasn't much better, but by 1969, at least he was starting to realise how much they had undermined him. They made careers out of telling people Ringo Starr and George Harrison just didn't matter. Within the first 2 years of their breakup, it was Ringo and George that were kicking all kinds of ass in the charts.
@written124 ай бұрын
Wow. Sad to hear how mean spirited they were. , Man, Something and Here Comes the Sun are two of the Beatles best songs, certainly two of their best of the late period. Something was beloved by Sinatra, who recorded it.
@DrTomoculus4 ай бұрын
In their last meeting as Beatles (Ringo was not present) McCartney tells Harrison his songs only got good in that year (1969). Anything before that he doesn't think is anywhere near the quality of his or Lennon's. If that's the case, the people at record companies who insist what the opening track of your new album should be, would not have chosen TAXMAN to be the opening song on the latest Beatles album. They know Beatles mean money. They know Lennon & McCartney means money. So why are they opening their brand new album for 1966 with a HARRISONG. Especially if he is nowhere near the talents of Lennon or McCartney. Especially by McCartney's estimations. Because it's the obvious song on that album to open the damn thing up with. @@written12

@donnythompson9233 Жыл бұрын
There’s no doubt that George had a signature sound and style to his guitar playing, and one of the sounds that he became identified with can be heard on the intro to both his and Ringo’s version of this song… The intro guitar (with its “watery” sounding effect), was the result of running George’s guitar through the rotating speaker of a Leslie cabinet, (which is most commonly used on Hammond B3 organ, and a part of the classic Hammond “sound”) can also be heard on George’s guitar on Cream’s “Badge”, as well as on Abbey Road’s “Octopus’s Garden”. This effect became one of the things that defined George’s signature guitar sound in the late 60’s and early 70’s. FWIW 🙏

In my opinion, clearly, the bridge, or shall we call it C-part, that goes with the lyrics like "Forget about the past and all your sorrows The future won't last, it will soon be your tomorrow" is by Geo.

@@MegaPlexy I believe that the whole song was written solely by George; music, lyrics, and arrangement…this I believe to be fact. In my opinion, George gave the song to Ringo to record, not only because they were the best of friends, but also because George knew how few Beatles songs Ringo sang on, and he knew that Ringo would have a hit with it. 🙏

I have watched Get Back (documentary on Disney + directed and produced by Peter Jackson) twice. There is no question in my mind that George could write and perform his songs as well as anyone and that a major factor in the break up of the band was that all three singer song writers wanted to do their own thing. I did not know George wrote this song and love his version and love that he gave it to Ringo. Rest In Peace George and John.
@chriskroll416611 ай бұрын
The only difference between George and the other two Beatles is that Paul and John had the almighty God of muse speaking through them. And it was feeding them songs while they were asleep because John said many times he would wake from asleep and he would have a song all pretty much finished from a dream he had. I don't think George possessed this gift . But George could get off with a good one every once in awhile. If you watch the documentary carefully you could see that Paul was writing a song while he was performing another song and a third one was trying to come through also so he had three songs going on at one time. That is almost unheard of in the songwriting community. Paul and John were blessed. George I feel had to work at it. 😁

@@chriskroll4166, what's interesting to note, if you look into the world histories of high achievers and genius level creative arts, the majority of them are naturally born as left handed. I've studied this for over 25 years now, as a left-hander myself. Just start thinking of all the popular names you can think of, that are the geniuses throughout the world. You'll notice the list contains a higher percentage of naturally born left-handed individuals. Ironically, I saw recent news which states that George Harrison was originally born left-handed, as Catholic nuns forced him to write handed. This now confirms that three of The Beatles were naturally born, as left handed. From my studies what I see in John Lennon, is that he acts like he has the brain of a naturally born left-handed type. It is possible, although nobody's research this enough, but he could have been born left-handed and no one's ever noticed. There is one of the biggest controversies and misunderstandings in the world of why any right-handed idiot would force a naturally-born left-hander to write right-handed. [It is of course caused by social and religious stigmatizing. In the old archaic world a person observed to be writing left-handed was thought of as being demonized by the devil or evil. Believe it or not, there are people today that still force their left-handed children to write right-handed. My youngest grandson is a natural-born left-hander; he's a musical genius and an art visual artistic genius, just like his left handed grandfather. And yet his father recently forced him to write right-handed, into his tenth year of life, a few years ago.] You can research this, looking at medical papers in the New England Journal of Medicine and the British Lancet. I studied it almost 20 years ago, when I was hired into a University to teach as an adjunct professor of Astronomy. They put us as new faculty through a special class about the human brain, so we could better understand our students. This is where the teacher in the class, a lady nurse, whose husband was a brain surgeon, had disclosed this controversial information to me. It's believed in some medical circles to be the doctor Norman Geschwind Theory. Dr Geschwind studied women's amniotic fluids in the early 1980s at a large Medical University in the state of Maryland. He found that there's a high presence of testosterone within some mother's amniotic fluids, specifically at 6 weeks after conception. He observed this high testosterone to suppress the left hemisphere of the brain, and allowing the right brain hemisphere to slightly out -row and become more active than the left hemisphere. There's also extra neurological wiring growing across from the right hemisphere through the corpus callosum into the left hemisphere brain, and this causes the preference of left-handedness to occur, [eight and a half weeks before birth.] I don't want to run on here in one of my lengthy essays, so you can read into this yourself, or do the research. But many of the famous people you've heard of over the years of history in the performance arts, acting, comedians, sports figures, scientists, artists, many of the greatest leaders of the world names, as you can imagine; these figures are shown to be at genius levels, and this stays with the person's persona for life. Unfortunately left-handers also suffer a higher incidence of autism Asperger's dyslexia and bipolar disorders. But it does not necessarily affect all left handers in this way. They rewrote many of the medical books a few years ago and redefined Asperger's disorder. They now medical term it as a trait of left-handed people.

So much talent from 4 guys that made the most incredible music ever! All were generous in sharing songs with others! Amazing how their paths crossed, just happy that I was able to grow up hearing their music! Still sounds incredible today!!!!!

Wow..Ringo's version was one of my teenage favorites..never gave a thought how much the song had the same "sound"as My Sweet Lord. The Smithereens version is also very good.

You mean the song that he plagiarized: he’s so fine
@thomasmurphy93489 ай бұрын
Yep..he claimed he subconsciously used the melody..still had to pay over $580 k..

@@sethtenrecWell, This song-- There ain't nothing tricky or funny about it----You can be a hater, but I'm sure George didn't willfully plagiarize anything---

@@thomasfoss9963 well, one thing we know for sure now, is that Eric Clapton (totally uncredited) played the guitar part on While my Guitar Gently Weeps (obviously, the title draws attention to the guitar playing as well). Meanwhile, George basked in the glory of how “improved his guitar work was” and was happy to keep quiet about the fact that it wasn’t him. Simply a low-character individual all the way around.

@@sethtenrec I never heard George profess to anyone that he was a great guitar player, but he did become a great slide guitar player!!! He wrote many great songs along the way, culminating with All Things Must Pass--- Clapton never really gave Duane Allman credit for all his sessions with him-- Jimmy Page and Zeppelin have been sued a dozen times now for stealing songs, and melodies in their careers, while the Stones have remained relatively unscathed in lawsuits--- My only beef with the Stones is how they treated Brian Jones, and never paid any royalties to Mick Taylor, for the years he played lead guitar with them---

By the time Ringo sang it the arrangement was tweaked to perfection. Great tune!
