Thank you to whoever is responsible for getting this song on the channel. I've been trying forever! One of the best songs ever recorded. It's amazing, the creativity brewing inside George Harrison's head while almost being ignored throughout his Beatles days. Classic song. Classic artist. A beautiful post-Beatles song from 'All Things Must Pass', an album well worth mentioning.
@reganferguson4823
@reganferguson4823 2 жыл бұрын
I'm not sure he was "ignored". It is a testament to his ability that he got any songs at all on Beatles albums. Lennon/McCartney were two of the best song writers of the 20th century. And even George admitted that he started writing songs a bit later than they did. His early stuff is ok but not up to par with his later Beatles and solo material. The Beatles had high standards and when George started meeting that standard, he was amazing.

I sent my 13 year old grandson this link. He moved 2,500 miles away a year ago. We were very close. Seeing him grow these past few years I realized I would no longer be as much a part of his life... and he in mine. But this is a new beginning for him, and I wanted him to know how much he had to look forward to, and how much happiness I wish for him. Above all I hope that he finds love in his life, and charishes each moment that passes.

Love the song and this newer video. The cemetery part gets me every time. The dancer to me can symbolize youthful exuberance being given the opportunity to experience life thanks to the sacrifice of all those 18-year-olds in those military graves. Maybe it's the ghost of a young soldier that follows her into the forest, longing to experience the life and love he never got to experience.

I love how Emma Rubinowitz (the Girl) dances in this video. She starts off awkwardly, playing the young girl, and gradually gets better and better as the girl ages. Even when dancing awkwardly, one can tell she is a trained dancer as she still has a certain amount of grace along with full body control. By the time she dances past the cemetery she's in her full ballet mode with the speed she is moving as she twirls. The Boy is danced by Esteban Hernandez, both he and Emma were at the time members of the San Francisco Ballet. The video was recorded in The Presidio of San Francisco.

There was no video for the song when this song was a top-ten hit back in 1971. I was just a little kid back then but I remember hearing that hook on the AM pop radio station my parents listened to. That fuzzy riff really came across clearly on small speakers. I don't know when the video was added. But I like it. I also like the fact that I knew the song well before the video was added. So it doesn't matter much to me to get lost in moving pictures of a teenage girl dancing to the song around a street, around a park, around a picnic table, a play set, a cemetery, and a grove of trees where she finds a friend to dance with. It fits the song well. And it's an easy song to get lost in already. Harrison brought out new aspects of the "Wall of Sound" with this song.

Never heard this song before I saw this music video, and it's become a fave of mine... The girl (and guy) is a ballet dancer who choreographed the song's rhythm to her dance routine perfectly, in my opinion... It also captures the sentiments of the song's lyrics about young love. George Harrison was a very gentle soul, and fame and scrutiny heaped on him at such an early age was likely very traumatic... he fell to the vices that most rock stars indulged in - drugs, booze, and women... and he developed a bitter attitude towards certain aspects of life and wasn't a fan of fame & adulation... George once described the hysteria that the Beatles had encountered on tour as annoying cos they couldn't hear themselves play in concert. But he did find love w/ his 2nd wife Olivia and their son Dhani... his dedication to Indian religion and their culture did so much in his lifetime... The last decade of his life were reportedly very happy - he lived quietly w/ Olivia and took up gardening, which gave him an alternative to music.

George evolved as a composer as the Beatles evolved and by the time the group ended he was Lennon & McCartney's equal. The video seems to depict a person dancing through life stages, oddly, just like how we go through life. Sort of wobbly and full of errors but seemingly in a direction. Also, if you ever want to try to interpret Harrison lyrics from his 1970-72 period -- they almost always are heavily influenced by his broad sense of spirituality, that governs his worldview. A few of his Beatle recordings are also driven by that influence, such as Within You Without You from Sgt. Pepper. Anyway, this is a great fun song that I don't think I've seen on any reaction channel before, so Congratulations!!

This song was released in 1971. George Harrison passed away from cancer in 2001. In 2016 George Harrisons widow, Olivia, and his son Dhani realized there wasn't a video of any kind for this song, so they sent out a world wide request for people to make their own videos and send them in. This young couple are part of a ballet school in San Francisco who simply danced and allowed their emotions to control their actions while listing to the song. Both kids were born more than 25 years after this song was released. But they won! So this is now the official video for "What is Life?"! Amazing how the Beatles (as a group and as individuals) are still effecting young kids still to this day!

Simple yet deep song. This song is for you two. If you didn't have each other. Where would you be? Who are you without each other's love?

It's a shame that you're distracted by the video instead of listening to the song. This is one of the best by George Harrison, he's pouring his heart out in this song, asking this person what's his life without them by his side, it's funny that the title of this song is "What Is Life", but he's always saying "What Is MY Life", still a great song though. When it comes to the meaning of life, I believe, it's not so much the meaning of life. but the meaning of YOUR LIFE, YOU make your life mean something or you don't. This was a great reaction, thanks!

Interesting fact about this album & the Harrison - Clapton connection.. on a lot of these songs from this great album (All Things Must Pass) the musicians were from Clapton's band at the time, Derek & The Dominos and another interesting fact was these musicians in his band started in another band a year or so earlier, a band you have yet to hit on & hope at sometime you do, That is Delaney & Bonnie & Friends, which both Clapton & Harrison & some other great musicians (Billy Preston, Dave Mason, Leon Russell & even Duane Allman at one time played with them on the tour of their concerts.).. Super reaction to a legendary artist..

Probably my favorite George Harrison song. Personally I think the video adds to the song, NOT detract from it. This song reminds me so much of my childhood. It makes me happy and sad all at the same time.

George Harrison wrote so many songs in Beatles that weren't released. So when he released All Things Must Pass it was a triple album. You should check out Piggies from The Beatles (White Album). A song about greed and consumerism.

This is one of my favorite songs, for the love George put into it, and Eric Clapton, and the amazing Phil Spector wall of sound. The video is a distraction, irrelevant mostly, and served to divert your attention from one of the great tracks on All Things Must Pass, one of the greatest albums of all times. And, generally, I have to say, especially to Brad, stop staring at some video and reading the words and instead immerse yourself in the music, not something visual and superficial. This song by the way is no ordinary love song, and as was not untypical of George, merged sentiments of human love with divine love, and love of humanity. "What I know, I can do ... If I give my love now to everyone like you." Who is he singing to, or about, except the divine presence in all? You'll never get that staring at a cute video that was not, by they way, chosen by the artist. But by his heirs.

Brad at least understood it’s a love song. He just didn’t realize it’s a love song to God.

The interesting thing about George is that he was a very spiritual person and he said once that most of his songs weren't typical love songs, they were love songs to diety.

Thats just what I thought the first time I saw this. She looks cute dancing in a somewhat awkward way. Actually she was a dancer from the San Francisco Ballet at the time . I like the way the dance makes her look like just an ordinary person dancing from happiness . George made some very original videos . I just read here that the video was made years after George died. His wife and son made the decision to choose this one and it's perfect. They really knew George's mind. I thought he'd made it ! This can be interpreted to a song to a woman, but also a song to God ("what is my life without your love, tell me, who am I, without you, by my side"). Remember, George was always seeking God .

Great song, All Those Years Ago is another favorite. I was initially put off by the video, as it’s such a weird idea, but have gotten to like it. Though two dancers from the San Francisco Ballet dancing around at the Presidio is not an idea I ever would have thought up.
