I m 42 years old and in summer of 1980. My uncle Daryl was taking my sister and me home from the swimming pool. she wanted him to turn on the radio and play some rock music. He turned on the radio and this song was playing. he told us now this is real music and turned it up. And I have been in love with country music ever since.

Not sure why that would be surprising. Most of those guys started off as jazz musicians. People back then like Chet Atkins, Les Paul, and Doc Watson would blow the doors off most modern players.

Should be 50s rock and roll considering JP Richardson wrote this. If you don't know who JP Richardson is he went by the Big Bopper. Died in a plane crash with Buddy Holly and Ritchie Valens.

Probably why it sounded rockabilly is that the Tennessee Three---Luther Perkins--W S Holland--and Marshall Grant (Johnny Cash's Band) along with Gordon Terry on the lead guitar (who I primarily knew as a fiddle player) were the back up band---and T Tommy Cutrer was the emcee. I have been fortunate enough to know and work with most of them. Blessings to the memory of George Jones. Earl P Ball

The great Gordon Terry who was a world class fiddle player on lead guitar. Gordon Terry played in every band that needed a fiddle player. He was Merle Haggard's fiddle player for years. What a great talent, and a great human being.

I used to dance polka with my grandpa in the middle of the barn floor, while milking cows. Every Sunday morning we would both dance and listen to oldies while milking. I’m 25 and my taste of music is that of a 70 year old because of him. I wouldn’t change it for the word though. Once you know quality, it’s almost a pain to listen to anything else. ❤️
