He’s always understood the overarching concepts of Star Wars just not the filmmaking or screenwriting aspect. Hence why he has no idea how to execute those ideas through his chosen medium. Of course when you explain the decisions made in the prequels the audience is eventually going to understand what you’re trying to do. But if you have to constantly explain everything instead of the audience getting it for themselves, in most cases the film is too dense or in minor cases too deep
@vittoriacolona3 жыл бұрын
There's nothing brilliant in this. It's actually simplistic and facile. Anyone who behvaves with the light side and tries to be good all the time is setting himself up to be a victim. His explanation also does not make a whole lot of sense given the success and achievements of so many of the Sith Lords in the SW universe. It might apply to Anakin. But not Palpatine or Vitiate or any of the others. Anakin is an angry manchild who can't control himself and see further than his nose. No wonder Palpatine played him like fiddle . He has no idea the pleasure that comes from achieving great goals. Geore Lucas sounds like a nice man, but he much of what he says, comes across as words from a rich white man who has never had to struggle. His wealth has sheltered him from the messiness of life.

It's so frustrating when people misunderstand balance. Balance isn't 2 Sith and 2 Jedi, it's no Sith at all. The dark side inherently brings imbalance. One is never to utilize its power, but one must accept that the dark side lives in every living being. Yoda accepted his own dark side in the Clone Wars, therefore achieved balance and was granted to live on beyond death. Balance was established in Return of the Jedi when the Jedi reigned and the Sith were destroyed. A happy ending.

On the topic of the Star Wars being 'erased' as the story unfolds, I suggest that you think _bigger..._ and don't let your (current) feelings and (limited) perceptions impair your better judgement. On that note: Just imagine if Episodes I-III had been released before IV-VI. @kungolaf44994 жыл бұрын
@@AJDOLDCHANNELARCHIVE I mean the consistency between the Prequel Trilogy and The Original Trilogy is arguable if you go through them scene by scene. On a grand scale they fit, but if you see the details, cracks start to show up: Leia remembering her parents and Anakin never really being the hero Obi-Wan tells about for example. There is even internal contrivences in the Original Trilogy: Leia 'always knowing' her sibling relationship with Luke even though they kissed intensely twice (even though the contexts of those kisses explain them somewhat; still it is somewhat akward), Obi-Wan pulling 'a certain point of view' from his ass (something that would be ripped apart today if it came out of the sequel trilogy). J.K. Rowling had one school and a handful of characters for 6 movies while George Lucas keeps resetting the main characters after every three films, introducing new themes and outlooks that alter the way that we see the previous stories. Because of these new ideas, they don't always fit perfectly, dialoque per dialoque to the previously established themes and lore. The way you see Star Wars depends on what you think of the starting point/main conflict of the saga. And that depends on when you were born and what generation of Star Wars you saw first. Even though J.K. Rowling leaves space for sublety, there is one singular vision for the themes and achievements of the very same main character. To see the same for Star Wars, you need to give the details benefit of the doubt and ignore the bad/contradicting stuff. And it is blasphemous to think that the Sequels introduced big contrivences to the saga. Only after the Rise of Skywalker has the Sequel Trilogy surpassed the amount of contrivences the Original Trilogy itself had.

I did enjoy The Force Awakens and Rogue One upon release, and was pretty much onboard with what Disney Lucasfilm was doing with the franchise... until "The Last Jedi" spat in the face of everything that Star Wars was created by George Lucas to represent. I personally don't see the "contrivances" of the original to prequel trilogies as anything that cannot be explained away by "the Force" or Leia remembers her mother? Maybe she had visions in her dreams through the Force. Anakin being a hero of the republic? Well we see glimpses of that in Attack of the Clones and the opening battle of Revenge of the Sith, considering many years have passed between the two films I don't think it's hard to assume Anakin was a part of more heroic campaigns and operations (I'm not a fan of "The Clone Wars" series so I won't even use those events as "evidence"). I'm of the prequel generation, but I watched the original trilogy first on VHS in the early 90's, then saw the "Special Editions" releases in cinemas in 1997 when I was 6 years old (been a fan/fanatic since the age of 4), then went on to enjoy the prequels upon their releases from 1999-2005.

Force does exist. Maybe not in exact kung fu form like in the Star Wars, but it does. Some call it God, some call it Allah, some call it "the universal force" etc. We simply can't reach it because most of us use only a small amount of our potential. I became aware of that after a few highly spiritual and paranormal experiences. I bet Lucas also had it so he used the Star Wars as an platform to share the knowledge he learned from those kind of experiences. This is exactly what's most disgustingly wrong about nuWars. Rey doesn't have discipline, she doesn't abstain from worldly pleasures and maintain an inner balance - Rey just does whatever she wants to in the moment. She attacks Luke in rage. Yet she is the 'good guy'. Ben is disciplined and focused and is the 'bad guy'. These new films portray evil as a decision you make intentionally and pursue, not what you inevitably fall to without sustained effort.

Luke lashed out at Vader in Episode 6 in anger. And he was supposed to be the hero?! Seriously, Luke was a whiny, emoting and impatient brat for most of the original trilogy. Rey like Luke before hasn't yet grown up. The thing with Kylo Ren is that he isn't natural at being on the dark side; he is pulled by the light and that's why he feels the need to force himself to be on the dark side.

That’s a really reductive view of good and evil. It’s to show that the concepts are more complex than serenity and focus, you can be focussed and evil, you can be serene and wrong. It’s about challenging these simple ideas we’ve grown accustomed to and making them have some depth.

Whiney, I wouldn’t really say he’s whiney, he just doesn’t like being on Tatooine and you’d act the same if you lived in the middle of nowhere and when he leaves he doesn’t really whine much. He nearly was going to strike Vader with anger but then when Palpatine asks him to join Luke looks at Vader and realizes if he joins and kills Vader he’ll end up like Anakin. And earlier he saw the good in Vader. At the end of the OT Luke became a more patient and wise person.

Rian Johnson should've watched this video. He falsely attributes the Dark Side to processes in nature like death and destruction and accordingly argues that the Force should be balanced by light and dark ie the death and destruction of the dark is balanced by the life and creation of the light. But death and detraction are not the Dark Side and the Jedi were never opposed to them as they are part of nature. Yoda even said that we should rejoice when those around us pass away becase now they are part of the Force. Rian's makes it seem like light and dark need to be equal but he clearly come to the wrong answer on what balance is because he messed up on the basic parameters of what the Dark and Light side are in the first place. And becase Rian Johnson didn't understand he bastardized the Force. And it wasn't just the Force, he also bastardized Luke Skywalker because he presented Luke with his very own views of the Force.

You grossly misinterpreted this video in an attempt to slander Johnson. Lucas is saying balance in the force means that everything has a yin/yang. But the yang must never supersede the yin or try to upstage it. Instead it must always remain in a neutral stasis. Force users must acknowledge the darkness within them, accept that they will be tempted, but never feed into it. Selflessness must always prevail over selfishness.

Anakin may have willingly made a deal with the devil in his teens, but how many children did the Jedi forcibly take from their parents as young as age 3? Anakin made a choice, but the Jedi are so afraid of human choice "staining" and "darkening" the Force that they want Force-sensitives not to have that choice, but just to follow their own foolish code. There is actually a Christian quote about this. "Satan doesn’t whisper, 'Believe in me.' He whispers, 'Believe in yourself.'" I loved this interview. I think Disney has forgotten or never knew, what the force really was. "it is the name of your true self, you've only forgotten." This was a religious experience watching this. so much truth in it. Disney is warping the force and muddying up good and evil with their stupid gray Jedi, balanced between good and evil gambit. like it's normal to be half selfish and half selfless. half good half evil. Yeah some place in the middle seems legit, that's safe. That won't end in suffering, a conflict with the characters, a schism in the audiences soul and cinema suicide. it'll work. ..not.

They essentially confirmed that there are no Grey Jedi in the new canon. You're either a Jedi or you're not. For instance, Ahsoka was a Jedi, but now she is not. Maul is not a Sith, but is also very much not a Jedi. Bendu isn't really anything, though he's the closest one might come to a "balanced" individual. Though it also makes him very fickle and not particularly reliable. We could discuss how the Force itself works, but that's a bit more complicated, I think.

This doesn’t really do a whole lot to explain the necessity of “balance”. He goes into why tipping the scale all the way towards the dark side, or selfishness, is bad, but doesn’t talk about why it’s bad for the scale to tip in the other direction. Balance in this context would mean that you are not totally selfless or selfish, but an equal mix of both. All this interview does is say why being only selfish is bad. I want to hear about why being only selfless is bad too, hence the need for balance. Using the word balance to describe this battle between good and evil only works if you don’t try to frame the battle as absolute good vs absolute evil. If absolute good wins over absolute evil, that’s not balance.

I just had this argument with one of those 50/50 balance types. Balance doesn't seem to mean that the dark side is completely gone but that selfishness is greatly reduced. It can never go away so when balance is achieved it must be maintained. That is where Luke failed. That is where the Jedi failed. Balance, like freedom, requires eternal vigilance.

If Luke want to help he must have left that island along time ago. Leia had 6 years fighting against the FO alone.The force awakens said he just walk away from everything when a student turn against him and he felt responsible, nothing about Snoke's secrets. If you don't like Luke of VIII is because the force awakens. So according to you, Luke is leaving the FO and Snoke winning more power, the man that felt when his friends are in danger in other movies that can talk with his sister through the force, his sister doing everything to find him, he is ignoring her, han is killed, entire systems destroyed and he didn't decide to appear to help in the force awakens not even in the end of the movie? Great to hear this from the man himself. Thing is, its always gonna be a constant battle. I get it when people say that the dark side is imbalance and the light is balance, but the dark wouldn't exist without the light and vice versa. Its never ending. If theres 2 people and one becomes selfless, giving everything they have to the other, the 2nd person inevitably becomes selfish. Then the 1st person realises and stops giving stuff to them, say they give things to someone else. The other person, fueled by selfish desire, then kills the selfless person and takes everything they have. But as George says, they will never be satisfied, so they kill and take from more people until another selfless person appears and saves everyone by killing the selfish person. But that person, like the 1st, is selfless. So they give away all their stuff to someone else, and the cycle starts all over again. Now, replace "selfless" with "Jedi", "selfish" with "Sith", and "stuff" with "power". Yes the light is pure, but it inevitably births the dark. I mean thats how the Sith started - Jedi becoming selfish. Thats why I think the notion of "No Sith and only Jedi is balance" is wrong. The Jedi are hard givers and the Sith are hard takers (no innuendos please lol). To me, both are imbalanced in that respect. Whats important is knowing when to give and knowing when to take, not doing purely one or the other, even if one is good and one is bad. That is balance, or as I call it, human nature.

Since then, though, I've seen and heard enough nuanced interpretations of Bendu that I don't mind him anymore. He demonstrates what he at least describes as a middle position, but also leaves room to question whether his "centrism" is actually viable for anyone else. As I recall, he actually discourages the mixing of Jedi and Sith teachings because he doesn't think people would be able to handle it. Some have even suggested that his neutrality, while philosophically interesting, is only practically possible as long as people mostly leave him alone.
