Lucas is a genius. An incredible storyteller. The way he forged the two trilogies together is quite amazing. George should be respected, not blamed for his Star Wars saga. People who hate the prequels don't understand the story he gave us. I have the utmost respect for this man and owe him a great deal. Thanks George, May the Force be with you, Always.....

I agree that he made a terrific trilogy of movies with the OT but even the best can mess up like he did with the prequels. Whether you people like it or not the prequels failed. Your fine to have your opinions and like the prequels but don't pretend to make people look stupid just because they expressed their frustration with Lucas' work.

The depth in Lucas's thinking is the reason that the previous Lucasfilm projects had soul, and TFA didn't.
@imyourhuckleberry42087 жыл бұрын
+imbecilik totally agree with you, TFA had the same style but not the feel or soul to it in this throw away style over substance society we now live in.
@JarJarAbrams7 жыл бұрын
It didn't even have the same style to me, only the same ships and stormtrooper costumes. The cinematography was ugly, the camera was constantly moving around the protagonist without reason. The sets looked like sets and the color grading was very generic, like every other STar Trek/ Transformers movie. TThe movie fails in every department.
@mikejandrews7 жыл бұрын
Dave 101 Yea, but as +JarJarAbrams says, they took the surface style and recreated it, with some tweaks. What concerns me the most is that now Lucasfilm is run by a Producer, not a creative. And it shows.
@broman2607 жыл бұрын
Yeah, listen to Lucas talk then listen to JJ talk and you can tell his general process isn't nearly as deep. Lucas has a rich, vibrant universe in his head but obviously has difficulty bringing the stories out.

The Fumbo Muffin I'd rather have someone struggle to get the story out of themselves onto paper, then onto the screen. That's why I can't hate the prequels for all their faults. I think if he'd had more time to balance them a bit more I'd like them a lot more. They're very flawed but really good.

Once you're dedicated, you are brainwashed, your values have been manipulated and you've become ready to exploit. Manipulating and exploiting people's values to get them to do what you want, is what power really is in society. If someone values money, you can pay them to do stuff for you. If someone values a religion, you can tell them or imply as a leader of that religion, what you want is what god wants. Someone dumb enough will do it too. This goes for all the activism too. The leaders of those big activist groups have much better lives thanks to everyone else's support "to the cause". It's all just small groups of manipulative greedy people looking to better their own lives off the hard work of others. The prequels, especially Episode III, serve the purpose Lucas designed them for, to show how a democracy, the Republic, became a dictatorship, the Empire, and show how a good person, Anakin Skywalker, became a bad person, Darth Vader. His fear, of losing people he loved, which led to his greed, for power and desire to control the entire universe, are very relatable. Say what you will about Lucas' inability to write scene-to-scene dialogue, and his preference to direct the technical, camera, the editing, the visual FX, the sound, the use of music, rather than direct actors, but the themes of his movies, including the prequels, especially Episode III, are very strong.

George is like most revolutionary visionaries and artists, who were not held in high regard during their time. But years from now after he's passed on, he will be remembered as being a great auteur who changed the medium of storytelling. His name will never be forgotten.
@kthx11383 жыл бұрын
George Lucas has the unique distinction of being an artist who WAS appreciated in the '70s and '80s, then dismissed in the '90s and 2000s when he tried to make a comeback. His former vision was later regarded as passe. More than just entertainment in fictitious storytelling, George Lucas is making a direct comment on what's really happening in society and government right now! Selfishness reigns! There's pure ego and greed! Yeah, all employees of Lucasfilm could say that George is a slave driver, but he's also generous with money, and he doesn't demand anything from his employees that he wouldn't step in and do himself. This is more that can be said for society and governments. Where's the love? Where's the self-sacrifice for each other? Where's the teamwork, camaraderie, working together to grow collectively, create something greater than our individual selves? There's only me first, I have to step over you so that I can survive and succeed.

A person becomes moral by considering their actions, weighing the consequences, and deciding whether they are doing more harm than good to themselves and other people. People don't like to be hurt, and they usually recognize that other people getting hurt is a similarly undesirable thing. When people are in danger of being mistreated, they seek out protection through cooperation and relationships. Society is simply a much larger extension of those relationships.

Excellent discussion. It is a shame, that the vast majority of people never really can think so deeply. But like we all know, they are that there own level, and to everyone, there level is the right level. Its one of the reasons, why kids growing up, need to be taught lessons, or stories, that teach them the road, to the light, or good. They need people to sow those seeds into them, when young. I totally agree with lucas, on how he was right to tell this story at that time, and the human race, does need to keep telling these stories, so every other generation, gets a message such as this, to sow those ideas into there minds. It must be very interesting, to hear people like lucas, and spielberg talk. Considering what they have learnt, and how they understand, things that most just do not. Like he said, being a repeater is not something that will teach you much. Although its a skill, that is important in the world we have, its not a skill, that will lead to being creative. To understand humans, you have to just know things others do not. For what ever reason, most people are repeaters, and just cannot think outside the box, or maybe are afraid too.

I have loved Star Wars for a while, especially the aspect of the Force. It absolutely fascinates me. It seems so real for me to a certain extent. I truly believe one could live life as a Jedi or Sith. Of course it’s not so black and white, but there are people in this world (and maybe others) who primarily use hate, pain, anger and power to fuel a lot of their decisions. Sometimes even willingly so. Same for love, compassion, happiness and empathy. Like Lucas said, all humans have these emotions and it is a daily battle between essentially good and evil. A Yin and Yang. The dark and the light. It is easier to lash out in anger, almost reactionary and even seductive to wish hate on those who have wronged you or simply disagree with you and your beliefs. But it takes great restraint and courage to acknowledge and nurture these emotions so they won’t control your thoughts and decisions. Much, much easier said than done. But I don’t think it’s supposed to be easy. That’s the weirdest thing about it. How easy it is to simply not give a damn about anything or anyone, to only serve one’s self, And how hard it is to be mindful of basically everything. But what do I know? I was born 20 years after the first movie came out, still very young in this confusing world. But in my short life the Force, God, Allah whatever you want to call it, has been there for me in my darkest times. I don’t know who will read this, but I wish you well. May the Force be with you all ❤️

I like his philosophical views. Maybe it’s not as bad as we think. He’s talking about accepting the reality of death and an ending. Everything ends so it’s better to accept that reality. Fighting it or worrying about it does you no good. It’s almost the Buddhist philosophy. All life is suffering, desire and want cause pain, and sometimes there’s joy or happiness but it’s fleeting. It doesn’t last. All things must pass. Change is constant. There’s nothing you can do about that. So just accept it and go with the flow. We are all floating down a river towards the River Styx.

Funny thing is, I think that he was trying to tell us that with Anakin: he couldn't let go of the people that he loved, he didn't want things to change, he did everything to prevent his loved ones from dying.
