I met George when he was running. I was the only who showed up for an event. He got out of his plane and walked up to me and said, "where is everybody?" I said that I think he chose the wrong airport...he agreed. Then we talked. He then said, i want to keep you from having to the war. (I was in high school) He sincerely cared about people.

My Dad was only one year old and my Mom wasn’t even born until five years later. I am a millennial born in 1999 but I still know my history and I can’t believe that he suffered one of the worst defeats in 1972 against Richard Nixon 520-17 in the electoral college although I know people here in the comments section who are older than me and even lived during that era would probably educate me why either in favor of George McGovern or against George McGovern. I just realized that months later on Election Day of this same year, Walter Mondale suffered the same fate against Ronald Reagan like George McGovern did twelve years earlier from that time 525-13.

@@babarazamsucks watergate, and CREEP. Smeared McGovern. And his VP picks didn’t help. Nixon even did shady stuff against Hubert Humphrey. In 1968, age has nothing to do with knowledge my friend, I’m only 16, but if you want to know more I recommend the book and movie, All The President’s Men.

This was almost as good as when John McCain hosted. He was brilliant playing a husband stalking his wife in a fake Lifetime movie 😂

I remember this episode. The musical guest was Madness ("Our House"). And George did a great skit with Robin Duke and Gary Kroger. Actually all the skits he was in were excellent.

see Spearfish 1974 yearbook. i helped teach photography for journalism class. Lunch with him cub reporters at main street dinner. i All so saw at School of Mines talk. my '63 station wagon had his stickers plaster all over the whole back windows in cool mobile style. sad he lost, i too young to vote ,, before prison for pot got me year later....

Ronald Reagan's lopsided presidential victory in 1980 led to the humiliating defeat of then-(U. S.) Sen. George S. McGovern (D - South Dakota).

True, but McGovern also lost in 1972 when he ran for President against Richard Nixon. McGovern was crushed by Nixon and lost worse than any Democrat in the modern era.

Jimmy Carter lost to Ronald Reagan, not George McGovern.

@@woodycollins737 i am merely saying that Carter's lopsided defeat by former CA Gov. Ronald Reagan also led to (U. S.) Sen. George S. McGovern's defeat.

@@albertcalleros9489 But, Mcgoverns defeat happened before Jimmy Carters. Your not making sense mate. McGovern lost in 72' carter won in 76' carter lost to ronald reagan in 1980.
