This sounds like the karaoke version. He was smart to re- do it.

The sax player on the final version is Stephen Gregory, this version is with Jerry Wexler. Stephen Gregory is also the sax player of Queen's song One Year Of Love because he was a friend of John Deacon, the Bassist of Queen.

I read that on the shoot for the video that was eventually released, he freaked out because the humidity in Miami had done a number on his hair and, at a personal cost to him of roughly $17,000, he had his hair cut and they had to re-shoot (at his insistence) scenes where he was really unhappy about how his hair looked. I kind of love this story because it is such a personal view into his well known (as he spoke of it often in interviews) insecurities about his looks. I finally brought myself able to listen to his last interview done a few weeks before his death and he mentions how, at age 53, he was finally able to look back at himself from the early years an recognize that he was, as he said in the interview, "gorgeous" - It took decades but he did finally recognize what the world saw. He is just so missed....

I have never liked this song. This is the better version. The other suffers from overproduction in my opinion. The strings could be nixed but this is George’s voice at it’s peak, (he tended to squeeze out the upper ranges later on)not much else needed.

George Michael wasn't satisfied with this version because it sounded him too much "like an Atlantic record". So he dediced to produce it on his own and tried several different saxophone players until he finished his final version. RIP dear George Michael 😢
@goodlife21448 ай бұрын
@@tasyriq28 okay it’s your personal taste. But it doesn’t have to do with perfection. Atlantic sound is totally different from what GM has produced at the end. It sounds more unique than the mass productions of a big record company.

One thing that really puzzles me about this is the music video. This clearly is some sort of directors cut or different version that didn’t see the light of day. The guitar sounds a little semitone tuning wise and the tone is very jazzy, so it doesn’t gel with the rest of the instruments. I do love the organ and strings. Very dramatic. However, if they had released this it would have sounded outdated already. It has a very late 70s production quality to it.

@1helpmegod3 ай бұрын
Both versions had a unique quality. Wexler's version has the whole story in more detail. George's version has that sax which is the hook that grabbed us all when the song came out. You have to give it to George, what he heard in his head for the sax is what came to fruition. Amazing. So young at the time (early 20s) but knew his version was better. Something like that isn't learned it's just a natural talent that he was born with. Thank you for posting the video.
