Hi, Yes they were. It really shows because some of his bandmates & backup singers were right from the beginning, some were from the 1st 15 yrs. & some the last 15 yrs. His initial backup must have really loved George. We've seen It on videos of his recording sessions, concerts performances, & behind the scenes. Also, have you noticed that several times he gave some of his singers the stage & he did the background,(for lack of the right word!) You can sure see they all loved each other as friends. Altogether they were all awesome, YA! It's fun sharing our feelings about George, Isn't It?

Hi Mi Ka, I'm from the US, & believe me he has a lot of fans here as well. If you remember, the Ragg papers, & reporters were only out for money! Unfortunatly, the only way they could sell anything was with a lye & why they could, because there are so many misrably, hateful people out there they have to put THERE relality on to someone else so they don't have to look at themselves. They must have broken a few mirrors wouldn't you say!

@@bk4062 Hi Bonnie, thank you for replying. yeah I know he has fans in America but I’m an avid comments reader and it’s quite obvious according to the comments that he has far more haters than fans, stateside. More than any other artist I can think of. Just a mention of his name on any American based platform is a guarantee of some really bad comments and sometimes a complete rewriting of history! You see people talking things like he was not even a big star in the 80s and he didn’t achieve the success that others achieved in the 80s!!! Recently I came across a commenter saying that “he will be remembered as a second rate pop star at best” and another, furiously, saying “guys please don’t ever mention George Michael in the same breath as Madonna, Prince and Michael Jackson this is the top tier and he is way below. He is not even on the same tier with Bruce Springsteen and Whitney Houston guys so please!” Mind boggling. One might think that these comments must be from kids who weren’t even born back then and, as you mentioned, they are completely driven by how the media painted him which is true for many of the cases but sometimes they come from people who were fully grownups in the 80s! There’s also a complete dismissal of his work beyond faith as insignificant and not good! While other artists get praised for changing directions and exploring new territories he gets dismissed for it as failed attempts! If it didn’t succeed in America it’s a failed attempt. If it didn’t get good reviews in America then it must be bad. If he fell off the scene in America then he is a loser! There’s a whole world outside America where continued to be very popular and very successful! I’m sorry but sometimes it feels like there’s disrespect for the rest of the world! Of course it’s unintentional but that’s how it feels. It has to be said that I know for a fact that the vast majority of the American people are kind, warm and genuinely good meaning people so this is not me expressing any harm feelings against American people by any means🌹

@@MiKa-im3tm People can be so hateful. It upsets me that people only know him for Wake Me Up Before You Go Go or Careless Whisper. Don't get me wrong I think both of those songs are great but he was so much more than that. Songwriter, Arranger, Producer, playing all most all the instruments on his recordings. He could take any song and make it his own. His voice was so magical that the minute you heard it you go "that's George Michael". It kills me that he has not gotten near the recognition that he should have received. I am so grateful that at the some reaction channels dig a little deeper. I am from the States and will always love George. I try to make sure my kids and grandkids know how great he was.

He has been that kind of magic to me. And get this, I never seen him or talked with him or witnessed him in concert, but I feel as though I knew him, really knew the magical men he was & still is to his lovely fans!
