One Scorpion Arrow can kill a dragon from a song of ice and fire but it takes two black arrows to take down Smaug ( one to damage his scale and one to pierce his flesh) and you have to precisely hit that spot where you removed the part of scale whereas SOIAF dragons can die from a scorpion arrow hitting any vital part of their body.

Smaug has the intelligence of a human with high IQ, he doesn't even need to fight the dragons from GoT, he can just trick and ambush them, the dragons from GoT are just as smart as a dog 😆

As GRRM admits, he would be pretty biased to wish his own creations would win. Smaug vs Balerion could make for a great fight. We see that Vhagar is like a big flying Godzilla, but doesn't have a sentient intelligence of Smaug. Dragons are clearly capable of some sort of reasoning (dragons seemed to understand Tyrion's story when he was freeing them from captivity), but at the same time they are clearly controlled by animalistic instincts and riders (unless well experienced) will struggle to keep them under control. To compare, Smaug is intelligent, crafty and impossible to kill unless you hit his specific weak spot with help of master archer using a special black arrow (which is somewhat enhanced by magic) or if you bring in some heavy duty ordnance like powerful supernatural beings. I would give it to Smaug, both against Drogon and also Balerion, though the last one would be much more even, unless Smaug prepared a trap or something like that. Maybe charm him with a spell, like Glaurung, though not sure if he was capable of that. Balerion was clearly GRRM's equivalent of Ancalagon the Black of Tolkien universe. In this case, Ancalagon basically eats him the same way Vhagar got rid of poor Arrax. Balerion could swallow mammoths whole, while Ancalagon was a size of a mountain range, as he emerged and could touch all 3 peaks of Thangorodrim (fortress of Morgoth).

Smaug would eat Balerion for breakfast, and use Drogon as toothpick. After all, he is in direct line from Glaurung. He is roughly the sise of two jumbojets. :-)

Smaug smashes right through Drogon. Smaug is larger, much more intelligent, and has a way tougher scale armor system to get through. They only killed him by shooting at a gap in his scales on the underside. that armor also gives Smaug the edge over Balerion the Black Dread. Tolkien made his dragons to be almost unstoppable beasts whereas GRRM made his dragons to be actual animals.

Smaug would lure them to his side. Just imagine dragons fighting for the throne too! Imagine them making alliances with families against other. Plotting and causing troubles. That's would've been GREAT

If Smaug was in Game of Throne, then the Iron bank is no longer safe as this is where they keep all their gold and smaug loves gold. Rendering the Lannister to be broke and without gold to pay their army and the Golden company. He may be smart to speak in the language of Valyeria, but that just a speculation. But I don't know about if Smaug can defeat the Night King, but he is strong enough to lay waste of Westeros, Essos as long he sees them as a threat to steal his gold.

Smaugs downfall was his unmitigated rage coupled with his arrogance. He sees Bard and knows exactly what he's aiming for but still goes for the kill. Smaug would be bigger stronger and smarter than Drogon by alot. Balerion would be about the same size as Smaug but again intelligence comes into play but Balerion would also have far more combat experience so that fight would be worth seeing.

Literally answered it how I would have. Drogon gets stomped. Balerion was trained as a war dragon, and engaged in at least one dance, that against Quicksilver. where Smaug is intelligent and cunning Balerion is brutal and a beast. That would be a cooler fight. But remember, GRRM's dragons are very different to TOlkiens which are based more off of Norse and Brythonic dragons. GRRM's dragons arguably aren't natural, but created artificially by sorcerers and have since become species. Their mating habits and hatching habits are considered a mystery. Its unknown truly how much they bother to care for their own young, and its even speculated quite a few dragons kill their own young as their young get older. Classical dragons are these wizened old beasts of immense power, but are very lazy. It's one of the beauties of George's writing. He plays with two phiosophical concepts often. Identity and materialism. Despite consant references to the gods in Asoiaf, there is honestly very little proof for any of thsoe gods. But we do have A LOT of proof of magic being used to effect our material world, and being used to attain power. The beauty of ASOIAF is it is so material.

Smaug is an ancient evil and Drogon is a big flying dog.

I'm not going to say the creator of a character is wrong about their capabilities, however I don't think it's as simple as he makes it out to be. Call me out if i get anything wrong. Going off of show drogon and source material smaug, there's an important thing about drogon that's worth talking about. Dragons in asoiaf are completely immune to the effects of heat and fire while they are alive, and asoiaf dragonfire seems *deeply* magical in a number of ways. Smaug's fire breath--while incredibly hot--doesn't seem to have any effects that would negate drogon's fire immunity. Dragonfire in asoiaf has very interesting effects on different things, and it seems that drogon can control the effects his fire has. In the show we can see baby drogon cooking and eating bits of meat, his fire doesn't ignite the flesh, just chars it like conventional fire would. In another scene where baby drogon kills the sorcerer, his fire is shown to easily ignite flesh, spreading over and completely incinerating flesh and bone with bone with *unreasonable* efficiency. It seems chemically impossible how quickly drogon's fire turns people into pure white ash. The capacity for his dragonfire to either cook meat or completely incinerate it over similar time frames with no change in the color or amount of fire used is demonstrated time and time again in the show and implies a magical effect drogon is capable of controling. Dragonfire also has the ability to enchant steel and give it supernatural properties. Smaug is much larger, stronger, smarter, and more durable than drogon while also being immune to conventional fire. Smaug would certainly kill drogon assuming he could engage with him physically and avoid his main weapon. The question is then, how would smaug deal with drogon's magic super fire? Would he be outright immune? Smaug is shown to be vulnerable to magic arrows, is he vulnerable to drogon's magic fire?

Smaug had one weakness, he was the villain of a children's book. That is why a single lucky, if fate blessed, arrow was able to kill him and why in a hundred years he never re-grew the old scale on his chest. Even Ancalon the Black had a similar narrative need to be beaten, so magic space flying ship. Suspend the need for evil to be defeated, Smaug would obviously beat Drogon. He is probably the size of The Black Dread, but smarter, and his breathe might have been strong enough to melt rings of power. Which if it could, would defeat Balerion's harronhall destroying breathe. The fight could end 3 ways. 1. Smaug defends from the lonely mountain and beats Balerion in a beam struggle. 2. Balerion is instructed by Aegon to collapse the mountain trapping Smaug forevermore. 3. Battle in the air where both mortally wound each other. Smaug does not heal a missing scale after a century, and Balerion died of a wound from some beast in the doom.

i like to imagine if smaug and Drogon meet face to face, what would Smaug's reaction be? Would he feel disgust that such a simple beast minded monster with wings is thought of as the same species as him? What will he do when he finds out that a monster that people think of as a dragon isnt even capable of having a proper conversation. Same thing if an alien comes and calls us literal chimps and see us as chimps.
