The strategy of creating many characters has the short-term gain of keeping the audience from feeling safe about the fates of main characters, but it takes on a long-term debt to resolve all those character arcs satisfactorily and roughly at the same time. 4:20 GRRM: the petty struggle for the Iron Throne is just a distraction from the real threat, the Long Night HBO: LOL the Long Night is just a slight distraction, all that matters is who's gonna be king, who's gonna be on the small council in the end
@CasparLeones5 жыл бұрын
4:19 I feel vindicated. After so many dumb arguments about whether it was thematically appropriate to kill off the Night King at the Battle of Winterfell, and follow it up with the sacking of King's Landing, here's the author himself laying it out: *NO IT BLOODY WELL ISN'T*
@robinvik15 жыл бұрын
What on earth are you talking about? Also, GRRM have given the show creators the ending of the books. I'm sorry you didn't like and is this upset, but going through unrelated interview and projecting your opinion upon people is venturing into Alex Jones territory. Just calm down.
@WheresPoochie5 жыл бұрын
The problem is less that the Night King died early on but more that his death had little to no impact on the remaining narrative. At one point I thought that the Battle of Winterfell would significantly diminish Dany's forces and/or the morale of the North but nope, things were scantly changed. It's really less about the plot points and more of the journey between them that the show completely botched.
@scarlet80785 жыл бұрын
@@WheresPoochie you're right. The show writers basically violated the fundamental rules of film/ scene writing. Each successive scene needs to involve a goal/ conflict/ & change and build on those before it. Within a series, that same arc needs to occur within each episode, & each season & overall. It is super difficult. In the end, it was too much for these writers to accomplish w/o the details of GRRM's books. Yes he gave them the outline but it's not the same

What I love about the world GRRM has created and the way he writes is that we get the sense that the Seven Kingdoms and the war for the Iron Throne feel like an entity in themselves. It's a huge, dynamic, ever-changing web of motivations and allegiances, and a lot of people in this story exist at the mercy of it unless they know how to "play the game". To me that's what makes ASOIAF stand tall in the fantasy genre--through these many perspectives, we get a glimpse into that terrifying, cold, brutal machine that serves as the heart of the story

He shouldn't be too worried about those outside threats that threaten us all, like the others. According to the show, they aren't too difficult to deal with.

People who only watched the show mourn the death of their favorite characters. People who read the books lament the death of their favorite plots in the show and that their favorite characters never appeared.

This finally proves to all those people that George also thought that the fight for the iron throne was petty, and that the real threat was from the white walkers (and Dany). So why kill the white walkers (and Dany, but more the white walkers) so easily? Literally 1 episode. they couldn't even kill Samwell - how dangerous could they possibly have been? Such a rushed and disappointing ending
@HurricaneGaming5095 жыл бұрын
Yep! I mean it's been established already that D&D just wanted to be done with GOT and rushed the ending. They were offered money for 10 seasons. Initially they the show would only be 7. Then they caved and did 8.
