Looking at you reminded me why I gave up doing major work on cars years ago. At my age I get freezing cold and I ache so badly afterwards. Respect to you 😊

Yeah it’s definitely not nice rolling around on the cold wet floor with no space!

Great video, not a bmw guy but enjoy your videos. As a rule of thumb you wouldn’t normally lubricate head bolts as it can increase the torque applied to the bolt quite considerably compared to the setting on the torque wrench.

On my Mini, it recommended to lightly oil the bolts. Helps with the stretching of them👍🏻

Saw your video on your frustration at the lack of views on the reassemble of this head. So glad you carried it on. Enjoyed it 😊

Nice work George. That “log” exhaust manifold a pain and most would have cracked by now, so your dad did a great job on it. Other solution would be doing a Cold Stitch. Bring on the next phase!
@GeorgeAusters

Ah so I guess it’s normal for them to crack then! Next video should be up soon enough👌🏻

Hi George, too late now, but brazing would have been the best option for that cracked manifold, much lower temperatures, so you wouldn't have the blowing holes problem. That being said, your dad would have needed access to an oxy-acetylene torch, and I'm sure that weld will hold for ages in any case. Getting exciting now though, it will be great to see it running again. I'm about 3 weeks off seeing whether my M62 V8 in my E31 will run again, it has been dormant for the last 7 years. Fingers (and everything else crossable) crossed!
@GeorgeAusters
@GeorgeAusters 9 ай бұрын
Yeah don’t have one of those torches.. Just a pretty old stick welder😅 Good luck with your E31.. I’d love one👌🏻

You might want to paint that steel sump mate,I had to replace my n46 e91 sump which almost rusted through,also instead of zip ties you can use the gardening ties used for tying tomato plants to poles which you can reuse again and again.Good luck with the build.

French thing, means deka newtonmeter, so x10, 3,5m.daN = 35Nm

That’s strange because the M20 torx head bolts should be 30nm not 35nm

For your interest, 3,5 m.daN is probably a more sophisticated way of writing 35 Nm (m * daN = m * 10N = 10 Nm).
