Growing up, I used to watch Mike Hammer on CBS. Hammer is like James Bond of Private Investigators. Hammer is hard nosed, hard boiled, but had a way with the ladies and the sexual innuendos.

If you have a Roku, you can watch (for free) 8 or 10 episodes of the original show (season 1) that aired on CBS. You can also find "The New Mike Hammer" show (late 1990's) on another channel with more episodes.

This was a great series I first saw in the late 1980's and I downloaded over a dozen episodes of it from YT on to USB stick to watch back on my big television about two years ago. Did anybody else catch the irony of when the big black man meets Mike hammer for the first time, and when he is informed by Hammer his woman once worked as a singer in Harlem, he then asks Mike where is Harlem?
@bebopbonsai Жыл бұрын
I see the irony, but I believe a more subtle layer to that moment is that Duke Ellington and Billy Strayhorn wrote a song called “Take The ‘A’ Train” that famously references the train to Harlem. So sure, the guy asking Where’s Harlem is a total rube, but the answer to his question is: “Take The ‘A’ Train” 🎷🎹 Edit: it seemed worthwhile to comment on such an old thread because jazz never dies.

@shelbynamels9732 жыл бұрын
This is the episode called "Farewell, My Lovely". In the first adaptation from 1944 "Bubba" was called "Moose Malloy". The second adaptation was with Robert Mitchum. Richard Kiel from 007 Jaws fame played the heavy. Btw, Robert Mitchum was also in an adaptation of The Big Sleep, playing the Bogart role. The setting was transferred to England. Makes for a change of scenery and accent, but I think it worked out alright.
@fingerbarbara22982 жыл бұрын
Loved the books and Stacy is in the roll as was Mitchum.
@marcelorolandi4150 Жыл бұрын
Yes, the story is pretty much the same, but there are a couple of points to be made here: "Farewell, My Lovely" is a novel by Raymond Chandler, published in 1940, the second novel he wrote featuring the Los Angeles private eye Philip Marlowe. It was adapted for the screen three times and was also adapted for the stage and radio.(Wikipedia) The screenwriters took the basis of the novel and made it into a Mike Hammer story. Also, in the 1975 movie adaptation, Moose was played by Jack O'Halloran, not Richard Kiel - O'Halloran also played "Non", General Zod henchman in the 1970s "Superman" films starring Christopher Reeve. Just wanted to make things clear. Best regards.

A very interesting episode. I was amazed that the blind man could shoot expertly, play guitar, sing, both expertly, and still be the epitome of style and gracefulness . I was sad when Big Mama Vibes passed away. I get melancholy when singing greats take their last bows.

Saw Benson in OKC in the mid 90s He played for nearly 90 minutes Stunning performance He is the only musician (or group) to have one album sit atop Billboard's Jazz charts AND atop Billboard's R&B charts AND atop Billboard's Pop charts... Simultaneously - "Breezin'" (1976) Said album also contained a Billboard Top Ten R&B Single AND a Billboard Top Ten Pop Single simultaneously "This Masquerade" And the only song for which I won a karaoke contest for my performance To summarize: Benson + guitar + voice = GOD But as an actor, as demonstrated by this episode of TV, not the best
@startrekker88035 жыл бұрын
the only thing that bothered me about this episode is that with all of the Mike Hammer stories that were written by Spillane, they chose to do a Raymond Chandler story that had been done at several times before ( Farewell My Lovely )
