Honestly this is one of the clearest, most concise explanations I've seen on this topic. And I've seen quite a few over the years. Nice work Mr. Goehl

@jwcci There are a lot more people wanting to learn to use the oxygen acetylene torch than I would have thought. The oxy/ace torch is one of the most useful tools for a home shop. It is a multi-purpose tool. Many of the newer welding and cutting tools are single purpose. As much as I like it, my plasma cutter will only cut.

Thanks. I am using new stock, so it is clean. I'll check out the flux video.

Carburizing flame. Technically you are correct, although having been around welding, welders and welding supply companies for over 40 years I have never heard that term used. Carbonizing is the term that is used.

Thanks, glad it was helpful.

@DCBillW I put the flux video up on KZfaq. You definitely need flux to braze. I use wire brushing to clean copper. For cleaning copper I use a wire brush on a motor. However you do it, the main point is to remove any oxidization. A basic rule is that clean metal will always braze better than oxidized or dirty metal.

Great video, that was a really clear explanation. Thank you for posting it. I'm going to have to try to make a maple leaf sometime too, that was a neat project.

Ian, glad you liked. That oxidizing flame expands the capabilities of the torch.

I'd suggest "Brazing with the Oxygen Acetylene Torch" if you want to do the type of metal sculpture that I do. For general restoration and repair work I'd suggest "Oxygen Acetylene Brazing".

great video. only correction is can make is its a carburizing flame, also known as a reducing flame. not a carbonizing flame.

I wear dark brazing glasses when brazing. The brazing glasses are down when I light and adjust the torch.

@Ekl49 That torch is a Victor Performer..

@897473 Thanks George, I'll give it a shot, and if I screw it up I'll try the nibbler. (just not sure it can get the tight corners that I want)

I use 5 llb acetylene and 6 llb oxygen. Of course it depends on the type of work one is doing.

which of your dvds would be better to learn all about oxy acetylene, flmes, welding etc..?

Elmer, thanks for viewing. Interesting that you would comment on a day when I was using all three flames. Generally, I use the neutral flame, but on occasion the carburizing and oxidising flame come in handy.

When brazing thin copper sheet to thin copper sheet, with a LFB Bare AWS A5.27. Should I be using a flux? I'm getting some bad results with and without. Any tips on cleaning the copper prior to brazing? Thanks!

do you adjust the flame with your shade lense up or down? CAn you please describe this in detail? eg do you have your lense up when striking the flame initially and then put your lens down? is this safe? Cheers

Hello and thanks for the video. Were you cutting those maple leaves with your welding tip with an oxidizing flame? That was really interesting. What thickness was the copper sheet? Thanks again!
@8974739 жыл бұрын
Bettina. I was using a standard welding brazing tip. Probably a "0" size tip and an oxidizing flame. Using 16 oz. copper which is about 25 gauge. Thanks for watching.

I have another dumb question: If you are melting copper and steel what keeps the tips from melting???
@8974734 жыл бұрын
The tips are made to withstand the heat. In 50 years I've never melted a tip.
@Cosmos1428577 жыл бұрын
What was your tip size, oxygen and acetylene settings?
@8974737 жыл бұрын
I was using either a "0" or "00" tip . 6 oxygen 5 acetylene
