The newest of Magic Valley Disposal's classics, an old square bodied Maxon, is put through its paces by Kenny, the smoothest operator to ever pull levers. Container dumping, packing, and unloading are all demonstrated.
Comparing this truck to North 40's Dempster XHD highlights the differences in design philosophy between the heavier East and lighter West coast style front loaders, driven by the more stringent adherence to the Federal Bridge Weight Formula in states west of the Rockies. The Maxon's half pack cycle, tip to dump unloading, lack of hopper door, underbody arm lift cylinders, and general lighter structure all serve to minimize dead weight in the name of maximum legal payload. I would be remiss not to mention the White Xpeditor with a whiny Detroit 6-71 under the doghouse. Makes for the complete Classic Refuse Truck experience.
