Georgia’s parliament has passed a new so-called ‘foreign agent’ law. It would mean media and nongovernmental organisations which receive more than 20% of their funding from abroad, will have to be registered and monitored. Comparisons have been made with Russian laws which the Kremlin has used to control its critics. Protesters worry civil rights and Georgia’s chances of joining the European Union will be threatened.
Key words and phrases:

🔎 The workers and their management finally reached a resolution after a long stand-off.

Hi, I'm speaking as a non-Georgian residing in a "western" country. This is a matter for Georgians and Georgians alone to decide. When the US threatens sanctions because Georgian's decide they want this law on the books, *that* is improper foreign influence in itself. If the US thinks these laws are bad, maybe it should stop giving countries more and more reasons to pass them.

You could also add that the US also has a similar law... Of course, principles are abstract in politics and all depend on "context"!

You never told about protests in Western Europe and USA, as if protests happen only in post Soviet countries and third world countries. You didn't tell us about farmer protests and truck protests in Europe. Anti French protest in New Caledonia is happening at the moment, the state of emergency has been imposed

Europe already hasn't bought our gas since war started. And I'm from Russia and it's totalitarian state right now, I live abroad and I even afraid to visit my parents this summer, I'm so tired and I'm dreaming when Russia can turn into normal democracy country, developing for the sake of well-being of its citizens and doesn't attack nearest states. Now Russia is trying to get Georgia under its control and I wish people will be able to defence independent future for their country.

Since having to register and disclose "donators" sounded alarms, they green lighted the pathetic narrative of a Georgia's internal stand-off coupled with Reductio ad Putinum. In my opinion an appropriate comparison, resorting to chess and in reference to the overreactions by those opposing the law, would be that of a move in a zugzwang position. When it comes to learning the language, the contexts produced by the comparative examples help very much to associate and fix meanings.

Georgia has adopted a law that exists in all developed countries, including America. These mass protests are not mass, but paid for by the Americans. They can still do things like that while their dollar printing press is working. But its time is coming to an end.
