Cormorants are a vegetation killer to many beautiful islands. Go ahead and "disturb" them all you want.

Very nice, Wayne. Always good to know more ways to access Georgian Bay's crown land. Good stuff with the drone footage.

@@TheOneCanoe You guys were probably the first people in about 30 to 40 years to travel down that river, all the way from the lake to the open water

Pretty spectacular. Many comment on how these isolated islands sitting in clear sunny waters are almost carribean. Maybe we should flip the comparison. I like the smell of pine and a cool breeze over tropical sun tan...I am going to try this route soon. Last time I ventured up to GB, park staff in the Georgian Bay Islands Park (non camping), south east of this location, didnt appreciate us camping on the islands.

Hey Michael, I too appreciate the smell of the pine trees throughout this spectacular region. To make sure you'll be camping on crown land and not trespassing it's always a good idea to access the "Ontario Crown Land Use Policy Atlas" (just google it) before heading out on a trip.

It is a big lake, you have to respect it. Be mindful of the weather and plan your trip accordingly.

I enjoy your videos. I always pick up a trick or two. Question: how much wind does your drone handle?
@TheOneCanoe
@TheOneCanoe 6 жыл бұрын
Hello jccapwell, Thank you for watching, much appreciated. I use a Parrot Bebop 2 drone. According to official wind tunnel tests conducted by Parrot, the Bebop 2 can withstand a lateral (Sideways) wind speed up to 58 kph and a frontal wind speed of up to 64 kph. I've had it out in 30-40 kph winds and you can see it working to maintain it's position, but even though it looks like it's being buffeted around, the video image is still amazingly steady thanks to the onboard camera's built in electronic image stabilization.

Where did you park your vehicle on this trip?
@TheOneCanoe
@TheOneCanoe 6 жыл бұрын
Hello Teiurriz, There is a small government access/boat launch area on Giroux Lake. To get there drive north on Hwy 69. Just north of the town of Point Au Baril, Hwy 529 branches off 69 to the left. Take hwy 529 and drive about 16 or 17 km and you'll see Giroux lake on your left ( I think there is a sign, but I think it lists the lake incorrectly as Long Lake). There is a small access road on the left (across the street from a house) that opens up to a parking area that could accommodate half a dozen vehicles. There is a shallow, sandy beach...perfect for launching a canoe/kayak. We left two vehicles there for a weekend and had no issues.

Did you come across any campsites between the launch and where you stayed in red rock?
@TheOneCanoe
@TheOneCanoe 3 жыл бұрын
Yes, there is a nice site on Giroux Lake, and a nice site at the mouth of the Giroux River. Once out in Georgian Bay, a lot of the islands around there are Crown Land so you could set up camp pretty much wherever you wanted that wasn’t private property.
