We're trying Georgian food for the first time! When you ask Russian locals what to eat in Russia, you might be surprised at how many suggest Georgian food. It's extremely popular in Russia and you'll find restaurants offering Georgian cuisine all over. We were walking down Nevsky Prospekt - the main thoroughfare in St. Petersburg - when we came across a cozy looking Georgian restaurant that just opened pretty recently. It's called Gogi and we can't recommend it enough. It only took one bite to understand why Georgian food is so popular in Russia! We tried traditional Georgian foods like khinkali with suluguni cheese and tarragon, megrelian khachapuri, grilled suluguni, abkhazura, and ended the meal with a cup of amber-coloured sea buckthorn tea. This meal made us want to visit the country of Georgia to try more delicious foods. The staff were also some of the nicest people we met in St. Petersburg. If you visit Gogi, tell them we say hello :)

Which looked tastier to you: the khinkali dumpling (like a little chef hat 👨‍🍳) or the khachapuri (kinda looks like cheese pizza 🍕)?

More dark sauce is a plum sauce (Tkemali). Red one is some sort of Adjika - hot tomato sauce.

Georgian cuisine is very popular in Russia. You can find Georgian restaurants everywhere in Russia. I have eaten Khinkali many times, but I have never tried Khinkali with cheese. The original recipe consisted of only minced meat (lamb or beef and pork mixed), onions, chili pepper, salt, and cumin. You tried Khachapuri (It looks like a cheese pizza), but the best one is Adjarian Khachapuri. Adjarian Khachapuri looks different and it has two types of cheese and a raw egg yolk. It's very delicious!

I’m Georgian, huuge khinkali fan but I have never tried khinkali with cheese and tarragon lol. Mostly we go for classic one with meat and herbs (KALAKURI, my ultimate favorite one) ppl here mostly eat without meat (mushroom, potato, cheese khinkali) during the religious fasting period. You should def come and try so many incredible dishes 🥰

There are many cuisins unknown for europeans in Russian restaurants. Ucrainian-Belorussian (borsch with garlic pampushki, vareniki, draniki), Georgian-Caucasian (pkhali, dolma, lavash, kiufta), Uzbek-MiddleAsian (pilov, shurpa, lagmam, samsa) Soviet Korean cuisin (khe fish, paporotnik salad, soy sparzha)... In relation to european cuisins Russians love it as 50/50

Georgian food is soooo delicious. And I’m french, you know what kind of picky eaters we can be we’re when it comes to food and especially cheese. No joke: cheese is serious matters. First time when I’ve tasted it, I said " ok, a country who likes cheese as much as our does, needs to be a partner.” and ” well.. I guess that the ideal man is an georgian chef”. I know my life priorities.😂 Ho, wow, it’s the Gogi, I’m in Saint Petersbourg now, I’ve tried several other georgian restaurants here. I’ ve just seen the name of this one, I sure give a try to this one very soon. And drink home made тархун By the way, the georgian language is really interesting and pleasant to hear. New life’s goal: eat in Georgia. And know enough of the language to propose to the chef 😂

When I went to a Georgian restaurant two decades ago, they had salads with herbs with every dish. Tarragon, mint, dill, etc. Mostly dill and carrots. No pomegranate seeds back then. But I have had home made Georgian food in the States. Beans, chicken with walnut sauce, breads. Salads. A lot healthier than cheese dishes, tasty as they are. And yes, I have had khachapuri too.

Saint Petersburg is not too expensive. $4-5 it's hearty lunch in a canteen. There are a lot of rather cheep places right in the center where you can eat good quality tasty food for less than $2. This particular joint is not too expensive. It’s something like $5 for a meal. Personally I am not great admirer of Georgian food. $1 aproximately 64 rubles. Why it's in russian series? I'm georgian and I don't get it 😕 If u want to introduce our national food than introduce it from georgia not from Russia.. It's hurts when your national food is introduced from occupant country Which occupied your 20 percent of land

We are so sorry to hear this caused distress. It is certainly not our intention. While we were in Russia was our only opportunity (so far!) to try Georgian cuisine. We would absolutely love to visit Georgia and have the chance to try it there and experience the culture and learn more about the history. We did get to meet some people from Georgia at the restaurant and they could not have been more welcoming.

В России не умеют готовить грузинскую еду! И продуктов,таких как в Грузии -нет!Популярная -да.Но -невкусная и дорогая! Вкуснее,чем я -никто не готовит.Поэтому я не хожу в рестораны.Мне там всё противно!
