Many comments pointed out the range indicator I used on the fortified churches is not the effect radius. My apologies for assuming lol… Guess CaptureAge will need to adapt to make it easier to show in the future!

@@19AngelsSorrow89 Arguably it's better to push the deers under a TC in the first minutes to save villager walking time. And then after the first eight vills you need a mule cart for lumberjacks anyway. But maybe in the late dark age and later it's justified to use a spare mule cart with your hunt, as people in some cases even "mill the deers".

The range that you show on the church is the attack range, the bonus is 10 tiles so much larger than that :)

Not that much larger. The 6 tile range is from the edge of the building, while the 10-tile range is from the center. So in practice, it is just 2 tiles longer (though it is a square shape rather than a circular shape)

I realy liked the comment I read on Hera's stream, that Persian gold bonus could go to Huns if Persians turn out to be too strong. It would fit them realy well imo.

If you think about it a 10% bonus in worker efficiency is the same as an extra villager for every 10 that you have, so it’s probably better to add tc’s first and add churches later

At the point he added his first fortified churches, he had ~30 vils, so they were only worth about 3 vils at that point (assuming all the vils were in range, which isn't a great assumption). Enough benefit to catch up to the Persian faster TCs, but not much more. So yeah, I think the TCs first would provide more economic benefit.

It's bit less than that, since while it makes workers collect 10% faster it doesn't speed up dropping off the resources and getting back to gathering.

@@jasonsmith1950 So if you have ~78-85% efficiency its closer to one extra vil for every 12 or 13 in the range; or approximately 10 seconds of gathering every 2 minutes

@T90 - you've been reading the Worker Efficiency stat wrong. It's a measure of how much time your villagers have spent working vs *not* working (walking, idle, etc). It cannot go above 100%, and does not account for Worker *gather rate*, which is what you're thinking of. I've spotted you make this mistake in a few vids recently - thought you should know!

As a matter of fact: if workers WORK faster but WALK the same speed, then their efficiency stat would actually be LOWER. Counter-intuitive, but that's how maths would work.

I love Hardy’s edits. Well done! The Georgians look like they could go up to S tier with the eco alone. I think the overlap is even better than what you are showing and it will improve the gather rate significantly in the late game. That means fewer vills required to maintain production. Even with the cav pop saving unique tech, I think they’ll manage on fewer farms (they effectively get the current Slav farm rate boost in late game as well as wood and mining speeds!). The healing added in for the cav also will slightly reduce the rate at which you lose cav too. Overall, I think both Georgians and Persians are going to err on the side of too powerful. I hope they give some love to some of the other civs (like Huns) who have been power crept.

They are grabbing these techs from age of mythology for last 3-4 expensions. Norse wolfs has the same mechanic as these guys. More wolf nearby(like a wolf pack would.) more attack and movespeed for wolfs. ragnarok= flemish rev/ox cart=mule cart etc...

I really hope this game never dies, there's so much history that can still be added into this game. They could even start to split certain civs into sub civs; Vikings could be a Norwegian civ or a Danish civ etc etc

They're a building, so they do not. That said, archers try to target units before buildings so the strat may or may not work.

@@Toonrick12 No, I mean you have a ball of archers within a perimeter of mule carts, so your mule carts act as mobile walls for your archers. Your archers are targeting units while melee cannot get at them.

@@The-jy3yq Yeah, and the cost may be prohibitively high for the benefit. We need SOTL to do a cost benefit analysis of mule carts to equivalent number of spearmen. Only real upside is no population usage.

The range on the church eco effect is actually 2x what it was showing (the attack range), for 4x as much area covered as shown o.0

nah, the range of workrate improvement is counted from the centre of the building, while the range is measured from the margins, so it's not much more

Would like to see how well the carts works for collecting hunt instead of pushing them in with your scout. Also wondering if the carts are slightly less efficient for mining due to being 1 tile instead of 2 tiles so more villagers have to walk to drop off. (can see this at 9:28)

I think this civ will be somewhat similar to Poles. Slow at first but you build more churches as you expand and eco slowly keeps getting better. Definitely a civ for the top level players to figure out optimal play.

Thats gotta get nerfed at some point, I think the damage is just a bit too broken when the cav is massed.. potentially they could increase the amount of units needed to add to the bonus atk, so that the bonus effectiveness drops off as some units die.

Farms generate food, so that could be a limiting factor on how much food the villagers gather, in fact for farms next to the mill or TC, I think that already is a limiting factor after Wheelbarrow, so for farm boosting, might be best to have the church be boosting farms that aren't up against the food drop off building. Edit: With generic(all?) Civs, handcart is needed to get food production be limited by how fast farms create food.

I'm not sure but I think SotL made a video where he said farms work something like 15% faster so up until that you can increase workrate without it being limited by farms themselves

@@The-jy3yq That used to be the case (once handcart is researched), but my interpretation of Spirit of the Law videos is that an update has led Slav farms to now generate food faster. Videos I’m thinking of are “AoE2 Slav farming bonus (update)” + “Why poorly placed farms aren't as bad as you think”

I do have to wonder about the mule cart meat shield tactic. Wouldn't enemy units ignore them when you have your army nearby as they are considered as buildings rather than a unit.

To explain that unit, using an analogy, it's an AOE2 unit that uses Pathfinder Teamwork feats to get extra damage when buddies are nearby.

Would it be more efficient to put the cart next to stragglers first on the way to the woodline to postpone the idle time when walking to far away woodlines? Of course this would need heavy micro and I personally would just forget and have them all over the place.

Isn't mule carts extremely useful for stealth resource gathering on maps where you can 'move' your cart and villagers to slowly gather resources on a separate area without your enemies knowing? Especially if you know the maps you like and plan ahead for them. Mule carts would be great for getting stone and gold on the move since trees are often already very plentiful on forested maps. Also if you find mining resources near huge piles of trees, or near fishing areas, then you can probably try to pair them with a handful of villagers to gather both resources at once. Big maps, especially Ludicrous maps would benefit from a mule cart.

Gathering resources like that is usually a bad idea: it puts villagers in a lot of danger because you can't defend them if they're found, and they waste time walking long distances instead of working. It's really better for aggression, since you can afford to send more villagers forward to build at an enemies base if those villagers can also work there.

you really tried... a bit too much. The indicator shows the range of the Fortfied Churches, but the aura effect is actually bigger. So you made way too many churches than you needed.

I am looking forward to seeing how strong the Georgians really are. The fortified church bonus is probably really nice if you go heavy on monks in early castle age or then just a really nice eco bonus and protection in late castle age. The Monaspa seems like a really interesting unit but I don't think it is too broken. In many games it may already be difficult to get to a high number of unique units, especially without an early eco bonus. And then the question is what would you rather have. 20 Monaspas, Leitis, Mangudai? The Leitis with 3 relics has 40 more hp, 1 less damage (and slightly lower attack rate) but armor piercing attacks and does not need support for his high damage and has -3/-1 armor compared to the Monaspa (in a group of 21+). Therefore the Leits kills the Monaspa in 6 hit, while the Monaspa needs 9. The biggest bonus is the healing cav in my opinion, helping a lot in feudal age scout fights and then also with everything afterwards.

I think the Mule cart's use in battle will be valid because of no population cost. It has rather low pierce armor though.

The range of the fortified church is much bigger than that. The visible range there is just for arrows.

That does explain the donut shape. I wondered why the ovals had the "blind" spot but i forgot Georgian churches also shoot arrows, which means thats just showing the lack of Murder Holes

A lot of times when game designers add something new they will purposefully make it stronger than it should be so that people will play with it. If people are playing with it then the devs will know how to balance it in a patch or two, but if nobody is playing with it because it's too week/unexciting then getting it properly balanced will take a lot longer.

No Chonkers. Just that one in the end. They have over 600 hp and in my experience, they can resist monks better what they used to. Even 10 elephants can make a lot of damage.

I can imagine players using the carts to body block during eco raids. If you can't get a quick wall down the mule cart might buy you time to get walls around your vils or back to tc

@t90 big ball of archers won't be good against savar, the new sotl video shows it's actually best against archers. One more pierce Armour and secret +3 against archers next to the Persian team bonus +2

pretty sure the fortified church range being shown was the range of their arrows, not the range of the 10% workspeed buff. workspeed buff doesn't have a minimum range, but the fortified church does have a minimum range before murder holes. at least where I'm at in the video (9:00ish) the indicator shows a gap between the church and the start of the ranged effect in question.

a late Impereal Tower update without max range that can compare to a bombard cannon at least ... is always useless ...if your enemy does not just skipp siege or is stuck in castle age for a reason its a nice gimmick for scenario so

I get the devs releasing the new civs overtuned intentionally, but I see a future patch not too far from now where Mule carts might get a reduced HP/armor, and Fortified church goes from 200W (vs 175 Monastery) to 150W + 25 or 50S. Otherwise the Georgians are fine, doesnt seem too unhealthy once the efficiency of churches is brought down with the added stone cost (which only makes sense anyway, as a defensive structure and "FORTIFIED"

i feel like thats a huge upfront cost on the fortified church to get the eco bonus. maybe the best way to play against georgians is to not attack them and boom up
