Only a matter of time before I came back to this map, and it didn't disappoint. Some of the remote locations of these photospheres made for some impossibly tricky guessing, even for a seasoned Geoguessrer like myself. Could I build on last week's score of 23,229? I wouldn't bank on it..
PLAY ALONG: Play your round, put your marker down, then switch tabs back to KZfaq to watch
my attempt and the result. This way you don't ruin the game or the video!

@@theAngusmaster101 The bizarre looking ones are monkey puzzles (Araucaria araucaria) and that national park in Chile is their heartland. We do have native Araucaria species in Australia (even the very closely related Araucaria bidwillii, or bunya bunya), but they don't look quite the same. Bunya bunya are typically found naturally at a more northern latitude (QLD and northern NSW), though they do actually grow just fine at any latitude in Australia when artificially dispersed. Their natural method of dispersion is to drop a huge cannonball-like pinecone from so high up that it penetrates into the ground, so not very _dispersy_ unless they're growing on the top of a hill with a hard landing pad at their base. PS Bunya seeds are edible, so standing under a mature bunya bunya in Jan-Feb is the very ultimate definition of fast food, as it will pass through you in a fraction of a second and satiate you quite permanently.

When you were wondering about the vegetation in the first one, Tom, I spotted an Araucaria, otherwise known as a Monkey Puzzle Tree - native to the Chilean Province of Araucaria, which is not entirely coincidental. The second one was in a similar kind of location and with a similar kind of social mix, but without the Chilean flags you would normally get at such an event in Chile - so I guessed it might well be in Argentina. And it's just possible I might have guessed somewhere in the backblocks of Brazil for the third one if I'd thought about it properly. Valetta was an easy one to pinpoint and so were the Greek mountaintop monasteries in a general sort of way. I didn't play along, because there would normally be no point, but I think I would have actually beaten your score on this one occasion - how bizarre!

The monkey puzzles were a great giveaway! There are actually a couple of Araucaria species native to Australia too. It's a Gondwanan genus and most of the surviving species are endemic to New Caledonia! The monkey puzzle is pretty distinctive though - the only two species that can sometimes look a bit like it from a distance are the candelabra tree (Also S. America) and the bunya bunya (NE Australia), but there were enough examples in the panorama to pretty much rule out funny looking examples of those species. =)

That third one is so depressing when you realise that you're looking at an area that was once thriving jungle, now completely bare.

I don't this is the pont there. That region of Brazil, in the state of Roraima, they have a different vegetation, called Lavrado. It's not a jungle, but a smaller vegetation, and I guess that is drier as well

That was never part of the Amazon Rainforest... Brazil is a huge country and it has many distinct forests, 2 of the most unique ones in the world, many small forests and rainforests, too. Most of the North region of Brazil is plainly flat and part of the Amazon, not lots of mountains, however, in the northeast there is a place that goes through and beyond the borders of the Guineas, the Cerrado (specifically Lavrado). Cerrado can be found in the Center of the country, too, being the 3rd biggest biome we have.

1. Guessed New Zealand at almost the exact same latitude. Was surprised to see the answer as Chile. 2. Guessed southern Peru (lots of trucks, so I knew it was America) but figured it was probably a little further south. Argentina makes sense. 3. Guessed South Africa. Usually you see that red-ish soil in parts of South Africa, Uganda, and northern Brazil. I was almost certain it was Africa and was shocked to see South America as the answer. 4. Guessed Malta. Perfect score. 5. Guessed northern Italy. I also assumed it couldn't be Greece because of the red roofs, but Kalabaka makes sense. All together, only got 10k points, but a fun round!

If you've ever perused the southern tip of South America on google maps or whatever, you'd be able to get a good guess on that first one. The vegetation around there just looks so unique. Straight up looks like a movie set of a dinosaur movie

For the third one you and I guessed within the same nature preserve in Africa. We were wrong. :) The only one I got close on was #4. I ended up with about 4800 points. Geez. Thanks for the video/challenge, Tom!

1 - recognised the trees as monkey puzzle and knew it would be South America but I went the state of Parana in Brazil because I know there are lots of those trees in that area. Oh well points wise not great but better than Australia2 2- thought it looked South American and southish.. the hills and trees looked a bit like Chile and Argentina. I went slightly north of salta which was an okay guess but I should have gone south 3 - going to be australia Africa or Brazil but couldn’t really decide. I ended up backing Brazil and going state of matto Grosso - an area of scrub south of the Amazon. Damn it was north of Amazon !! 4 - easy Valletta, Maltese flag visible 5 - I thought it would be northern Italy or Greece but the mountains looked off for it to be Italy. I ended up guessing near mount olympus which wasn’t horrible. 16116 all up

Something to note! When drones take these panoramic shots, it does it in sperate images and stitches them together. E.g. Old mate in the Blue shirt, is the same guy, who moved, to the other spot on the rock.

Those trees in the first round are the distinctive Monkey Puzzle trees, found in Chile and Argentina! I think they are probably the only good clue to get a good score in that round.

Well you did way better than I did :D The first 3 rounds really messed me up, and just had to guess Australia or New Zealand for them. The Maltese round was easy 5k, but on the last round I just didn't have the information you did and guessed Southern Italy, and ended up with below 9k game. Well done to you tho!

Round 1: I was super close to guessing pretty close to that area of Chile, but I talked myself out of it and went Peru. Probably lost about 4k points in the process. Round 2: I went Phillipines because they were driving on the right and I just didn't think it would give me back to back Chile/Argentina area Round 3: I went Uganda because of the red dirt and Tom beat me by one point on that one lmao. Round 4: Malta was pretty easy points Round 5: I went northwest Greece, close to the Albanian border and ended up with a fairly decent score that round I won't be able to sleep tonight knowing I talked myself out of Chile in round 1. Good games Tom! would love to see this map again!

Obscure tip for the second one: you can tell that the water is deeper on the west side of the dam, so the river must be flowing east. Therefore unlikely to be on the west side of the Andes.

This is the first time I've done one of your challenges. I don't like not being able to wander around, but I do like sky views, so I tried it. 6628 points. I only had a clue on the Malta one. Which was funny, because I thought it looked like Malta, having seen it a bunch before in the game, but then looked up the flag I saw, and it was Monaco. But I didn't want to "cheat" so I stuck with Malta knowing that it was wrong. If I'd actually not bothered to look up the flag, I would have probably gotten a near perfect score, as I would have actually tried to pinpoint it. I guessed Africa for Chile and Brazil, and Texas for Argentina. (The new cars really threw me on that one.) And I guesses Georgia for Greece. Though I did briefly think of Greece, but the buildings seemed more Russian, for some reason. I feel slightly better as I guessed Botswana for the Brazil round, which was in the area he guessed.

I had you in the first two rounds... Then fell apart. Guessed somewhere on Sicily despite meaning to click on Malta, and that last round... I had no idea Meteora existed, Greece would have been one of my last guesses. Guessed Peru. It was neck-to-neck until then. GGs.

I was about to be amazed on that first one when you found the place called Camels Hump because my first thought was a view of South American rain forest canopy, although the trees looked a little sparse. The mountains in the back looked Andes-ish, which still gave a pretty large area to guess at.
