Actor Gerard Butler talks to Paul Byrne for www.Movies.ie - Here Butler addresses his gay relationships and drug past... Not really...
Here Gerard discusses his vibrant career including RocknRolla from Guy Richie, 300, 300: Battle of Artemisia, Machine gun preacher, Nims Island and most importantly he talks about his Irish accent in PS I LOVE YOU, the movie based on the book Cecila Ahern.
Butler is currently working on Law Abiding Citizen, How to Train Your Dragon, Game, The Ugly Truth and he will voice the WATCHMEN DVD Spin-off 'Tales of the Black Freighter'

If you want to know the difference between an Irish and Scottish accent, the interviewer is Irish, so listen to him.

I don't care in which accent he speaks...even if he talks in mandarin, german, russian, spanish (which is my language) For me, he's the sexiest man on earth....He's gourgeous in any language or accent !!!

I'm from Scotland and have Irish ancestry too, It's pretty common actually Sean Connery, Billy Connolly, Craig Ferguson and Gerry all have an Irish background.

you have to realise there are some very different accents in both countries. Example; Glasgow and the Western isles are wildly different. Likewise, a Cork, Dublin and Belfast accent are all totally different from each other, and obviously so.

actually jackthelad, they did. If you do actually read up on it, the Scots were from an irish tribe called the scoti in ireland and they travelled to scotland. that is also why they speak, altho a different dialect of, gaelic. and why the music and culture are very simialr.

@Lynnapin well Ritchie, who directed the film is English and certainly knows the difference. There is a huge difference between the Scottish and Irish accent

Anyone who has spent a week in Scotland, Ireland and England can tell the difference... but probably couldn't replicate it. If I try I slip between them really easily.

Scottish Gaelic and Irish are based upon the same language, just different dialects. Gerard was wonderful in PS I Love You... In Irish boy with a Scottish accent - a win/win situation!!

He is Scottish but his parents are Irish. Gerald is very common Irish first name .Butler, is a common Irish surname.

He has been living in america for quite a number of years....and has had to learn the american accen for films...it is just like Mel Gibson...he doesn't even have his austrailian accent anymore.

his accent was definately off in ps i love you. it bothered me at the beginning but he captured the character well, was charming and convincing otherwise so by the end i was rather won over by him :)

Like other famous Scots, Gerard talks more 'proper' when in interviews etc. If he were to speak with his everyday lingo, goodluck to those who aren't fimiliar with it lol - now the Dundonian's, they dinnea givafook were ye noo or nor lol!

So Gerard Butler is a big fan of snatch...big surprise! Aren't we all??? Snatch is, without a doubt, my favourite thing. Seriously, though, I haven't seen Guy Ritchie's Snatch, but I've seen Madonna's. But, then, who hasn't?

besides colin farrell and jonathan rhys-meyers... i'm sorry to say, good looking irish guys who can act and are taller than woman are hard to find... i've been to ireland many times...haven't come across that many good looking, not-so-short irish guys...VERY sorry to say.
