Gerber Assert Quick Review

I've reviewing EDC knives for car people. My first test is based upon about two weeks with the new Gerber Assert folder with a bar-pin lock, adjustable thumb stud, and S30V blade. I found that it's a bit too small and light for my taste, but otherwise performs very well and maintains an edge. It's made in USA. More knives coming up. #gerberassert #edcgear #edcknife

Awesome! I just invested in my first decent pocket knife lol. A Benchmade custom bugout carbon fiber with s90v blade. I love it so far, sure hope I can keep up with it

I'm a big fan of Gerber, had my first one issued to me before I deployed and loved them since then. I also really like the usa made kershaw knives as well.

You need to be checking out a Spyderco Paramilitary 2 or Para 3, hell the G10 Native 5, or Shaman. Better prices better fit and finish, and more blade steels. Keep making knife content for sure

I got a variant of the same knife from the Homer Depot a couple weeks ago. Really liking it so far, particularly because its so light and small. I’ve gone in that direction for EDC lately. Never going back.

Ive been saying that for a year now, but recently acquired a wells blade works custom and my goodness... the 940 has somehow moved to the left pocket.

I have been using a spring assisted milwaukee fastback. It also is a bar pin style lock. Been carrying it every day for over a year and it hasn't dulled much. Only downside I can see is some might not like the very loud milwaukee branding and color scheme.

Any tips on buying my first knife in regards to cheaper options vs more expensive ones. I was thinking cheaper in case it breaks or gets lost, and the fact it’s my first knife. But I know with more expensive the quality is better and may last a lot longer. I have been looking at the Assert but not sure if I am willing to pay the higher price.

I think the Scout is way better than the Assert. I wish Gerber would make a premium version though, or at least one in d2 since it's only dlc coated 440a now. If they would make the Scout in s30v like the Assert it would be perfect if you like em a bit bigger and heavier than the Assert especially

Assert was a swing and miss for me. If it was half its price maybe it would be a contender. If you like the bar lock the Vosteed raccoon is a good work knife. It’s considerably cheaper like $80 or so similar blade shape, actually has better steel, options of button or bar lock, slightly larger little heavier, but not by much.

How were you able to flick it back in with you hand ? Mine came in really stiff and I had to loosen the screw, but it still does not close one-handed like my bench made one. Please help.

If you can stand the weight, no “car guy” knife is better than a Leatherman…

I don't disagree, but I find that you need a knife AND a multitool. The multitool blade is just too slow to deploy. I need blades more frequently than pliers, so I carry knives.

Also most multi tool steel is crap...S30v is some good stuff...a bit hard to sharpen bet a whole lot better than 8cr...your edge will last a whole lot longer

I say you need 3 blades. Multi-tool, pocket knife, and a utility knife. You can get very small utility blade knives of various styles and price points. It's ideal to loan out. Never loan out your multi-tool or expensive primary blade. Even with S35VN, CPM154, Magnacut, M390. I am not jamming that into a machine to pry something out or scrape corrosion off of a battery terminal. But someone you loan a knife to might. That Leatherman won't hold up to being arced out on a battery or A/C electrical connection.

I like Gerber's but brittle. You can not get too vicious with the tip.

but whats crazy is the material used on the handles for the benchmade are ass compared to other knives they could atleast add a metal liner so the scales to flex
