I agreed to buy the Armbar Drive, Armbar Cork, Prybrid Utility, and Prybrid X. I wouldn't follow Gerber's pranks any further, far too expensive for what they are.

I agree. This is far too expensive at $60. For $33 on Amazon, around the price of an armbar I was ok buying one.

I use a Leatherman SuperTool 300 at the cabinet shop. It’s not practical to wear on my belt all day long so it is usually on my workbench. With this Gerber on my belt, it would be handy for trimming the end of some edge banding or tightening a loose hinge plate if I find a problem before a cabinet is loaded for delivery.

Definitely. I found this tool very useful!

👍🏻 Not a “great tool”, but I don’t think it’s all that bad. I think people just expected a lot more out of it. It was meant to be a light duty tool, wasn’t meant to be one-hand opened (even though it has thumb stud-ish bars on the blades) and it doesn’t even look like it would be for heavy use. The worst thing about it is those plastic thumb stud things… I don’t know what the heck they were thinking with that! Otherwise, a fairly decent quick, light use pocket tool.

Good review 👍There are some rather precious reviewers out there who should have been hairdressers. It would be a handy tool in my game as a mechanical /pipe fitter. Awl would be useful for deburring copper piping internally for instance.And cross (metal) file is on opposite (right) side of the thumb stop. Don't have a pocket multi tool so - sod it! - I just ordered one! I think I need professional help with my addiction!!

It's a great concept but I don't think they did enough testing on this one before they shipped it. It looks as though they were going for a form over actual function. I'll be curious to see if they address the issues with this with a future revision.

That would be great!

I think the whole way the grips on the implements stand out is goshe. I also hate thumb studs lol. I also cannot understand why they cannot lock the driver in... Gerber has for a long time had nice leveraged, long bit drivers, but they need to be locked in! the armbar could be incredible if this was done. With that said I don't give two shiats if I can open the thing one handed... I find this need highly overrated. If I need to work really fast? I take an electric screwdriver... etc. Even in combat blades,the need for quick deployment can be overestimated, much less for utilitarian purposes... And... I am in love with the design and tool choice on this thing! I mean that file, scraper is built strong, its handy for all kinds of things and rather than buy a jazzed up utility blade with a barely functional bit driver, that people rave about, I would rather pay substantially more for a decent bit driver, utility blade set up with a scraper/file... with a good awl. The blade being almost an afterthought frankly. You could get a lot done with this tool, it is very small and very well designed, perhaps somewhat well made. Gerber really has to think it through though: If I am willing to carry something larger, I can get a first rate bit driver, etc for under 30 bucks that locks in and can drive almost anything not industrial/commercial grade. This tool would be fantastic if it had well constructed locks on it and some bit storage!

Thanks for your thoughts. You made great points! I also wish the driver was locking.

A lot of Gerber's stuff seems to have redundant tools on them.

In all fairness to Gerber, it really doesn't seem like a bad tool. I'm with you, I can find appreciation in things other people don't necessarily like. It has a nice tool set. An awl is always a nice addition but like you said, its stubby in this presentation.
@hvacbudget86002 жыл бұрын
The awl is stubby. I needed to cut a hole in leather today and it worked surprisingly good. So it is okay for thin tasks.

Some reviewers give multi-tools an unfair review because they assess tools like screwdrivers and use regular-sized screwdrivers as the comparison. Or they will use an otherwise more-sleek EDC folding blade design as comparison for the multi-tool blade. First off, the tools like screwdrivers are not meant to be used when you start out on a building or repair project. Naturally, a normal-sized screwdriver will be preferable. But when you don't have one, and you just need something to tighten the screw on...say, a hose clamp under your car hood while pulled over to the side of the road, then yeah the multi-tool can be a life-saver. Same goes for the blade. Multi-tools are not sleek with super fast thumb swipe openings, but that blade will come in handy if it's all you've got.

Totally felt that way myself. Thing is these tools get better and better making the tools more robust, while also being lighter...

Well said - totally agree.

You are right it’s not one hand opening
@absolutez3r019 Жыл бұрын
if it wasn't for the giant thumb studs, I would buy it. But because they're so big, you get half an awl, file and knife blade, which makes those tools almost useless. Though the 1/4 bit driver looks good
@hvacbudget8600 Жыл бұрын
The thumb studs due create some issues.

I am starting to think maybe there is a "hack" one could use to take the monstrosities off and replace with something decent.

I have the Lockdown Drive - it is a good tool, well made & everything works well. However, for some reason I'm not overly keen on it. I dont hate it, I'm just sort of "meh" about it, & it is one of my least favourite & least used multi-tools. I like most multi-tools for different reasons, but I really cant explain my indifference to the Lockdown Drive - it is a perfectly decent & usable tool.

I think we all have tools that other people love and their good tools they just don't work great for us. The Leatherman Sidekick is sort of my tool like that.

In a certain context it's alright, not great. I was pretty hyped for this when I heard about it and was disappointed from the execution. I guess many feel the same.
@hvacbudget86002 жыл бұрын
It definitely could be better. I still am surprised how useful I find it, opening packages, installing a doorbell.

@@hvacbudget8600 Lol I guess that's the frustrating part! It's a 6/10 that could easily be 9/10. When something turns out to be terrible, you're just upset about the lost money and move on. This has an appeal. Might go down in history as a classic
