Damn watching your video and Erins Arks gerbil tank (plus the detolf one, though I’m half tempted to invest in a juggernaut sized tank for more bedding height) so hard to pick which one to go with, all have some great features! I like Erins space for exploration but I love all your underground stuff! But this is one of the great things about gerbils. Any other animal cleaning out their enclosure was a chore but for them it’s an experience because of how they get with a new tank

How do you get your gerbils out of your tank for cleaning? Mine are very skittish and one in particular hides whenever he sees me.

Some gerbils are more outgoing so you can scoop them. Otherwise I just take the bedding out carefully until I get to their burrows, and when they pop out I use a jar or container or tunnel and let them crawl into it, then transfer them that way.

Courious y not mix the 3 type of substrate? And just layer it?

It all gets mixed up in the end once the gerbils get to work. I don't really have a reason for layering it, I like to have the hay closer to the top as it prevents the bedding from flying up into the topper. It also holds well for them to get their tunnels started.

I am thinking of getting a wodent wheel for my gerbils. But they are plastic and I am slightly worried about them chewing it up. In your opinion do you think it will be a problem?

It really depends on the gerbils! My first 2 boys didn't chew it, but my current boys do. You won't know until you try, or you could start off with a wooden one.

I have tried so many different ways to avoid moving our tank when I clean, but it is pretty much impossible. I even tried using a shop vac to suck up the old bedding, but it clogged up the hose. Now, my husband and I just pick up our 40 gallon breeder, carry it to the garage, and dump it into the garbGe after removing the girls, their stuff, and half the bedding. It kind of sucks since we have to climb over the boat hitch. Lol. We will haVe two tanks to move since my original pair declanned, so I am about to get the solo gerbil 40 gallon breeder. She is currently in a 20 gallon tank.

I suggest a hand held broom and dust pan to sweep the bottom and a spray bottles and paper towels to finish the job! This way you don't have to lug around such a monster! I hope it helps

I have never seen my gerbil use his wheel. Do you recommend the nitangle wheel? (I have a wooden wheel)

If you have a wooden one and nothing is wrong with it why bother replacing it ?

@@popcorningpets5292 I do think it is a good wheel. I also recommend a minimum of a 9" wheel, Although I know that some people do advise an 8" as a minimum, it's just something I personally find too small. If you notice that their backs are curving or they're not able to take a flat step in front of them it may be time to upgrade the wheel.

@@TheGerbilVineI saw that you used Timothy Hay and that is one of the more harsher hays I would recommend using orchard grass hay as it is softer. I was going to give you a link then I realised the link doesn't work.

@@popcorningpets5292 I've tried many hays and Timothy hay works really well. The gerbils like how hard it is, as its better for nibbling than orchard grass or oat hay, which are more flexible. I'm always trying out new brands and textures and the browns tropical carnival one seems really good imo.
