People actually free roam their gerbils outside? I can't even deal with the amount of anxiety the thought of that gives me.

Thanks for the interesting video! I think, gerbils are not destroyers, it may look that way for human beings, but they only creatively transform their environment. 😄

Hey! Love your videos, thank you for making them!! We’ve had our pair of girls for about 3 weeks now and I’ve noticed they aren’t a big fan of the pellets mixed into their food.. do you know of any foods that are mostly seeds? Or any info on how I can mix up some seeds for them...? Thank you!

Hey & welcome to the wonderful world of gerbil ownership! Gerbils can be picky eaters and will usually eat their favorites first, but they should end up eating the pellets too. Feeding a strictly seed diet isn't recommended as there are a ton of vitamins and added nutrients they need in the pellets. What brand are you using? I have a couple videos on my channel where I discuss what I feed my gerbils, and making a homemade gerbil food mix. If you want they may be helpful to check out! Thank you for supporting us

Sorry for commenting on a older video but I've got worries with my new gerbils, their in different cages right now since I don't have a safe/solid barrier for a split tank right now but one of them has gotten really aggressive lately. Whenever I replace her food or try to move bedding away from her water bottle she'll run up to me and bite me. She actually drew blood today while I was giving her new food. She wasn't this aggressive until a day or two ago and I'm worried that she's stressed. I'm under the assumption she was returned to the store by a previous owner since she was up for adoption but she was really nice when I first got her. My other gerbil was from a different store but she's super sweet and loves crawling up my arms. She's only nibbled on me in the mornings before I feed her

Sorry for the late response and so sorry for your gerbil troubles. Have you ruled out any pain or illness by a veterinarian? That's the first thing I would wonder if nothing has changed. Female gerbils also go through many heat cycles, and aggression can get worse during these times. Has anything changed or is she consistently aggressive? It could also be that she is stressed out by the other gerbil as they can't interact, are you swapping their cages multiple times a day ? I'm assuming you are trying to bond them.

Great VID! BTW, I wish someone would mention "de-clanning" within a family. We all know that gerbils from different families need a split-tank method and may not ever become friends. What many people don't know is that gerbil siblings that were born in the SAME family may "de-clan" and attack one another. This has happened to me with 2 girl gerbil sisters and later with 2 male gerbil brothers. At about 9 months, they started to see each other as competition. In these cases, they needed to be separated from their sibling forever. In the case with the 2 girls, they had a screen between them and did great later. I was never, however, able to get them to live in the same cage or tank again. With the 2 male gerbils, they had to live completely separately. One was able to live with a screen mesh divider with a girl gerbil (that he loves) but the 2nd male has had to live alone as he is aggressive to other gerbils. Please be aware that gerbil siblings will show some "signs" before "de-clanning" and attacking each other. Look for "over-grooming," one gerbil chasing another, one gerbil keeping the other from the food or water, some "dancing" or "boxing," and stare-downs. Once this starts, it's impossible to keep them from killing each other, so please separate them. Happy gerbil days, everyone! I love your videos, Gerbil Vine.

I think that happened with my two girls. They started attacking each other and after putting them in a smaller tank (I asked my vet for advice and let them be checked for diseases etc. to make sure they weren't sick) they stopped and acted normal again. But the fighting began again after putting them back into the big cage. One night I woke up to a bloody fight and I had to seperate them permanently. I bought another cage for one of them and they both became tamer immediately.

I know I’m late but my gerbils are messing with my head right now. They are two males and I just don’t know if they’re fighting or playing because there’s no blood there’s no aggression and they still sleep together but they chase each other and peep at each other and sometimes one of them is a little dominant about who gets to run in the wheel but normally they go in together so today I had enough of those fights because one seemed to get so sad and as I was making a separate cage these mfs were happily running in the wheel together I don’t know what to do

I originally bought one gerbil, and later one I thought he was lonely ao I got another one. My dad went to get him, and the clerk said that it would be ok to put them both in the same cage and the one I got first attack the new one probably in a territorial situation so I had to put the new one in another cage, they're right next to each other and they can see what the other is doing but is that still an issue?

Unfortunately store associates don't always know much about the species. You could try doing a split cage method which is the only safe way to introduce gerbils.

hey, what do I do if I had two gerbils but one of them passed away? can she live by herself?

Hi, so sorry for your loss :(. She can live by herself, it would be most ideal for her if you were to purchase a second gerbil, ideally around the 6 to 8 week mark, and then attempt to bond them together via a split cage. Depending on the age of your gerbil this may or may not be something you want to consider.

If you mean the artwork in the video, I bought it from Ikea. If you mean the cartoon clips in the video, I use copyright free images and put them together with backgrounds and text.

I would suggest paper-based non scented bedding

For bedding I use a combination of low dust Aspen, unscented paper bedding, and I also add in some hay for structure.

I'm not sure if its me, or if he associates me with food 😅 5 months ago he was the ultimate hide and seek champion. He's come a long way, age and hand taming has been wonderful for our relationship.

Any smell of food human or gerbil food my one boy is on top of the bedding right away, looking as cute as possible and stroking his nose like feed me feed me. *eye roll*

You know anyone in the U.S who would want to adopt my gerbils? I have a pair I'm trying to find a new owner for but I dont know anyone who wants them. I know your located in canada

I'm so sorry, I don't. You can try reaching out to some rescues in your area if you don't have any luck with private adoptions.
