Hi friends of fingerstyle guitar music,
this is my fingerstyle solo guitar arrangement of one of the most famous ragtimes "Maple Leaf Rag", written by Scott Joplin in 1899. Within 6 weeks after the piano score was released, 75.000 copies were sold. Scott Joplin was the first musician who later sold more than one million copies.
Playing Ragtimes is a challange for the left hand of piano players - and a challenge for the right hand for guitar players - if one wants to follow closely to the original piano score with all the details in harmonies etc. But that´s what brings the fun in playing these great compositions.
I made this arrangement about 1998/1999 - but it took me a long time ro record it.....

Hi Andy, thank you very much.... many years ago I practiced a lot to play that piece on the piano. And if you ever have played that piece on the piano - you do´t like the simplified guitar versions no longer. So I made my version trying to be as close as possible on the original piano score to have the full richness of all the harmonies and details Joplin put in.... greetings from Germany - Gerhard

Yeah Gerhard. You are the Guitar Hero! What a song, Joplin wrote some of the worlds best music (and the hardest to play) I can fake my way through the Entertainer but cant get through the first bar of Maple Leaf. I wonder if Joplin ever got to see somebody playing this on guitar? Probably not cause the guitar wasnt as popular back then and no one would even think to try it. Thanks for playing it for me

Beautiful arrangement sir! I myself am practicing Dave Van Ronk's arrangement. Ragtime is my favorite genre of all time, so it's always nice to see different arrangements here on KZfaq. God bless!

Tolles Arrangement für dieses nicht gerade gitarrenfreundliche Stück ( habe es mit Jazzbands oft gespielt). Kaum vorstellbar wieviel Klicks wenn es damals schon KZfaq gegeben hätte...

Hallo Frank, wie im Text zumVideo geschrieben, hab ich das vor 20 Jahren schon gemacht und bin halt erst jetzt dazu gekommen, es aufzunehmen...(aus der Zeit liegt noch einiges rum...) Die verschiedenen Bearbeitungen damals (z.B. auch Sigi Schwab) sind alle in der Melodie nur einstimmig. Die Piansiten spielen die Motive aber mit Oktaven und dazwischen Terzen oder Sexten - dadurch gibt das den speziellen vollen sound. Ich hab zumindest versucht, die Terzen/sexten mitzunehmen - auch das klingt dann schon voller, als wenn man "nur" die Melodie mit Bass-Tönen und/oder Akkord-Tönen ergänzt.
